Well, I did it.
I was a little afraid, I’m not going to lie.
I went to see New Moon.
I did enjoy reading the books. Sometimes when I write about being terrified of the Twihards, people think that I hated the books. I didn’t. I thought the plot was original and they were entertaining. But I just couldn’t get into the hoopla. I saw Twilight and nearly passed out from laughing so hard. It was terrible.
Amanda and I decided to see New Moon at one. We figured that the teenagers would be in school so that it would be a safe time.
“We just have to worry about the adults,” I said to Tom before I left.
He made a face. “That’s pretty sad…”
“I know.”
Natalie latched onto my leg as I tried to go.
“Mommy will be back,” I promised and unlatched her. I gave her a hug and a kiss and distracted her by saying, “Look, here comes creepy Brobee!” and she whirled around and rushed to the television where Brobee was being all around weird.
I picked up Amanda and we headed to the theater. I was a little nervous that it would still be busy. I pictured a thousand of my Neighborhood Twilight Crazies waiting around for the movie, all clad in Edward t-shirts. This thought freaked me out.
Lucky for us, the theater wasn’t busy.
I got my delicious popcorn slathered in butter. Whenever I’m asked, “Do you want butter on the popcorn?” I always want to say, “Yes! It tastes like Styrofoam without it.”
Before the movie started there were tons of previews.
I know I want to see The Lovely Bones.
Then a preview came on about a movie called It’s Complicated and I saw a flash of John Krasinski. Ahh, John Krasinski. Now he's a man to get excited over. (Although I would never wear a shirt with his face on it.)
Then the movie started.
And, okay, I nearly choked on my diet coke in the beginning of the movie when Edward started walking towards Bella. His shirt blew open, he had a pinched expression on his face...the first thought that came to my mind was, “Ew run!”
Then whenever Edward spoke this cheesy music would be tinkering in the background. When he was all, “This will be the last time you’ll ever see me,” I was thinking, “If he said that to me, I’d have been all, ‘Okay great. I’d rather be with someone who wasn’t as cold as ice anyhow. Bye!’”
When Jacob first took off his shirt a few grown women made some inappropriate sounds. Grown women! The guy is 17. Suppose that were YOUR son? Would you want grown adults making noises over him? Anyhow, that gave me the giggles. And it freaked me out at the same time.
The movie was better than Twilight , I’ll give it that. But I didn’t consider it to be this great movie. A League of Their Own was a great movie. Not this one.
Will I see Eclipse? Probably. I’ll wait to see it like I did this one.
Will I continue to be afraid of the Twihards? Oh, without a doubt.

Okay...at the risk of offending Twihards everywhere I totally have to agree. I'm not sure that I really get it. I haven't read the books but the movie seemed okay. I guess I need to read the books.
ReplyDeletePopcorn without lots of butter is a sin! :)
I'm waiting for the DVD, which I know is like a sin against man kind to some of the die hards.
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for the review. The day I lust after a 17 year old is the day they should lock me up Lol!
ReplyDeleteLoved your comment about the popcorn without butter. No Kidding!
Ok, you were smarter than me. To go during the day while the teenagers were in school was a brilliant idea. I got so sick of the squeals and clapping, I mean seriously!
ReplyDeleteSaw the preview for this before seeing 2012 (now that is a shit movie)
ReplyDeleteJust laughed all through the preview. Looked like the gayest film around, and yet all these ladies are going mental for it?
Just don't get it WW?
I haven't read any of the books and just don't subscribe to the madness. I do love a good movie though, with popcorn and Jr Mints. I'd go if a friend asked, but for now I'll pass. Glad you had a fun night out with your girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteI too don't get it. And you're right- Twilight was quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen. Seriously. And now that I know they play stupid twinkling music when Edward speaks I know I'll hate this movie too. And going gaga over a 17 year old is just plain wrong. I could go on and on and on about all that is wrong with this whole Twilight obsession but I'm gonna stop now. Anyways- yeah for a night (day) out!
ReplyDeletei read "the lovely bones" years back... and now i cannot wait to see the movie version.. i really hope it doesn't disappoint!
ReplyDelete... i thought that both twilight and new moon were pretty good.. but i;m one of those ppl who will ALWAYS prefer the book to the movie!!!
OK. I am thisclose to hitting the anonymous button.
ReplyDeleteI loved it. I have read all the books and saw Twilight on DVD a few months ago, and went to see NM over the weekend.
I think there's something oddly fascinating about Edward (not dandruff rob pattinson).
Do I wear a TEAM T? Hell no. I don't do logos.
Am I slightly embarassed at my HOLYABS gasp...oh yes. But...eh?
I am so waiting for the DVD. I don't even understand why people think Edward is cute. He is NOT cute, sorry! All jointy and pointy, all pinched and grey... how can he be considered cute? Now, Johnny Depp. He's *pantpant* hot.
ReplyDeleteRemember the part where Bella and Edward are prancing through the meadow??? I could NOT help myself and I started singing "tra la la la la la la" as they were skipping on screen. I got hushed . . . but a whole bunch of people giggled their asses off!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe part that bugged me the most was all of the teens/women laughing right along like they personally knew the characters. "oh, Bella, you are just too much!" Creepy. Not a bad movie, but yeah, I have a problem swooning over boys that my daughter swoons over. Seems wrong.
ReplyDeleteBrave, brave woman. This could SO easily have gone awry. . .
ReplyDeleteYeah, I definitely changed over to Team Jacob with this movie. But I wasn't one of those grown women making inappropriate sounds. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI loved the book The Lovely Bones, but the movie probably won't live up, just like the movie My Sister's Keeper was not as good as the book. >sigh< I really want to see The Blindside.
ReplyDeleteI went and watch New Moon too. It was packed! I went with some friends and our men. Yep drug the men there. Any ways my brother was being a child and bumping me into people while we waited in line. We also had some idiots sitting behind us that didn't turn off their cell and kept kneeing the back of our chairs and my brother was about to whip some butt! But hey the movie was ok and well i can't wait till they leave out the slow kissing scenes... those drive me nuts!!!
ReplyDeleteI finally just read New Moon this weekend. I thought Twilight was just ok as a book and the movie was awful. New Moon was definitely better as a book but I will still wait until it comes out on pay per view to watch the movie.
ReplyDeleteHave you been brooding since? Studies show that exposure to the Twilight movies causes excessive brooding.
ReplyDeleteLeague of their own is a GREAT movie. I agree with everything. Even though I havent seen the movie. I'll wait for the DVD. I laughed through the first one as well.
ReplyDeletebut he was/is HOT!!! of course they made noises!!! if it was your son, you should just be proud. lol
ReplyDeleteI think you might be a closet Twihard...(kidding!!!)
ReplyDeleteI'm not ashamed to say that I'm a twihard mom who thought Jacob was hot. Sorry, 17 or not, he was hot. It's not like I would actually sleep with him but I am certainly allowed to look. I think the reason I love them is because of the books. For the story itself. I thought this movie was much better than twilight in acting and story. Defiantly not as good as the books.
ReplyDeleteI'm a harry potter fan also. I'm just a freak all around:-)
Yep, there was a little bit of pedophile like behavior going on there. lol
ReplyDeleteI love John Krasinski too...but I also love Robert Pattinson....Jacob is ruined for me b/c my son owns Sharkboy/Lavagirl and he's in it and he's 12 and that's forever etched in my mind!!! It was definitely better than Twilight.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you saw it. Oh well. I still refuse to waste the money!
ReplyDeleteplease dont judge. my name is heather - and im a twihard. i was there at the 1st midnight showing. along with 4 other twi-friends. yes, we made some of those sounds. no, we werent that embarassed. and yes, we'll be there for the midnight showing of Eclipse. LOL. can we still be blogfriends?
ReplyDeleteI recently heard someone refer to Twihards as TwiTARDS. Now that's some funny stuff. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping over the other day to see my freaky collection of Twihard merch. I'll admit, you have reason to be freaked:) League of Their Own? SUCH a great movie. Anyone who doesnt cry when they start singing at the end has to be inhuman. lol
ReplyDeleteI watched NM (do only Twihards abbreviate?) yesterday and actually liked it. I hate Twilight the first time around and so was expected to not like it. There was a group of teenage girls sitting beside me and one actually made a slurping sound when Jacob took his shirt off! LOL I find Taylor WAY too young to crush on and I'm only 27... RPattz on the other hand...
I can't believe you saw New Moon?
ReplyDeleteI totally pictured you with a picket sign outside your local theater chanting..."Hell no, I won't go!"
:)
So did you notice the weird nipple from Rob P as he tries to 'kill' himself cause Bella 'killed' herself?
TMI?
You're afraid of Twihards because you're a smart lady. One of these days there is going to be a Team Jacob vs Team Edward brawl at one of these theatres. Crazy 16 year olds and their crazier adult counterparts fighting over which preternatural creature is hotter.
ReplyDeleteSo that does make me a bad person cause I would gasp at a shirtless 17 year old too! It's like art appreciate from afar like the David! Okay I know i'm a perv!
ReplyDeleteThe thing I love is the way the guy's now being know as R-Patz. What with RiRi and JLo and now R-Patz, I'm waiting for you to be dubbed WWrytah or something equally bizarre. It seems to be the cool thing.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you have been to see New Moon before I have and I am a partial Twihard!!
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed of myself.
lol!
xx
Oh dear... I don't know what to think now...
ReplyDeleteTwilight..no. Lovely bones? Yes!
ReplyDeleteI dont think I will ever be a Twihard.
Well, huh. I'm not even sure what to say but here goes...NM had a different director then Twilight which is probably why it was so much better both in writing and acting. I thought the special effects were good too. I am not ridiculous in my enjoyment of the books or the movies, neither am I that way with my Harry Potter fandom. I don't think twilight fans are any more obsessive or silly than the people at the science fiction/star wars/star trek/comicon conventions. Or sports fans. Fandom is just like that. Some people are always going to take it too far.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for appreciating the male form that is the actor that plays Jacob. Sorry, I don't think it makes me a perv. Were I to contemplate sleeping with him, that would be pervy. Merely appreciating his hottness, that I believe he worked hard to attain...not pervy. And as for sighing (just once and not real loud) over a guy my daughter also sighs over? Well Johnny Depp is way closer to my age than hers and yet she still shares my sighs.
Oh and Robert Pattison still needs to wash his hair and that freaky nipple sitch. Eeeewwww.... As for Bella choosing Edward, really what more could we expect from a girl who thinks Wuthering Heights is the epitome of a great love story?
♥Spot
I still don't get it...i saw Twilight and I don't get all the hoola! And yes A League of Their Own is a good movie. lol I must just be getting old or something, cuz i just don't get the whole Twilight...New Moon excitement thing. I'll probably be considered politically incorrect now. lol
ReplyDeleteBut I also thought Paranormal Activity was one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen! Totally fake and the only good part was the last 60 seconds. lol
The Lucky Bones looked really good! I totally agree with your assessment. We are on the same page, except I think appreciating Jacob's abs is not pervy. :D
ReplyDeleteIm going to see New Moon on Sunday....and I am not afraid of Twihards....maybe I am one. I dont know, lol
ReplyDeleteEdward was creepy looking. I wanted to puke and run when I saw that opening scene. I'm one of those older women (27) who went "WOW" when Jacob took off his shirt, causing my MIL to crack up. Later I found out he was only 17. Then I felt like I was a perv! LOL
ReplyDeleteHere from SITS--Happy Thanksgiving! You have a great blog! Come visit mine and enter some great giveaways! Http://www.tictacdough.blogspot.com
ReplyDelete~Maryann
I'm so uncool. I never made it past the first book and I hadn't seen either movie.
ReplyDeleteAt least it sounds like you had a good time.
I didn't read the books, although my daughter did and she flipped over them. (She's 28.) I thought the first movie stunk. I think the Tru Blood series on HBO is much, much better, myself.
ReplyDeletedid you see the you tube i posted just for you on my blog? okay since you missed it... here it is..

ReplyDeleteI'm more a Potter girl myself.
