The Mystery Present

Does anyone know what this is?

And if so, could you tell me?

See, my husband went out and bought me something. He won’t even tell me where he went.

It sort of feels like a stuffed animal.

Maybe it’s jewelry with a stuffed animal attached?

“Is it a gift package from Hickory Farms?” I asked Tom.

He looked horrified. “Why would I give you a gift pack from Hickory Farms?” It was as if I asked him if he did the cha cha when he got excited or something. Plus, what’s wrong with a gift pack from Hickory Farms? I love their sausage. Oh, and their cheese.

I offered to give him a hint on what his present was. I bought him a few things, you see. But he just shrugged and went, "I can wait until Christmas just fine, thanks."

This is driving me crazy. I am not a patient person. And Tom won’t even give me a hint on what the present is. He thinks it’s hilarious when I’m examining the package as though I’m about to do a surgery.

“You’ll never figure it out,” he’ll taunt.

What IS it?

I didn’t even want a present. I kept telling Tom that I was fine without one. Actually, I told him that he could just let me shop the Gymboree sales without complaint and he said, “That’s not a present!”

Hello? Did he forget who he was married to? It most certainly is a present to me.

I shook the present and it doesn’t make a sound so a music box is ruled out.

Maybe he got a tiny stuffed animal that’s holding a Gymboree gift card?

Or a Kohls gift card?

Or a Barnes and Noble gift card?

As you can tell, I love gift cards. I know some people are all, “They are so impersonal blah blah blah,” but I don’t care, I love them.

WHAT IS THE PRESENT?

What ARE you?

  1. Do what I do - cut the tape on the seams, carefully unwrap and then wrap back. Add new tape the same length on the old tape and press to seal. My husband has no idea that I know my red leather purse is under the tree. :)

  2. I hate waiting for things too, especially to find out what a pressie is, but I also hate peeking. I have a package under my tree from my friend in VA. I'm waiting till X-mas eve to open it.

  3. it is such an odd shape...is that on purpose? Like it's really small and dainty wrapped in a drying rack?

  4. No fair peeking! We hide all our presents until shortly before we're going to open them....Partly so we can't snoop and partly so the cats don't destroy them.

  5. I'll go with stuffed animal with jewelry on it.

  6. My first thought was a soccer ball. Hahaha! They are in those odd shaped boxes, but it wouldn't feel soft like a stuffed animal.

  7. Hard to say from the picture but it looks to be about 12-14 inches high...

I'm thinking its a kimchi cooker/server of some sort..

Or maybe is't the Mask of Sonbi, the scholar...

  8. maybe the bag of money he took from robbing the bank? That would be squishy and not make noise...just sayin

  9. If you can see rudimentary air holes prodded through the packaging with the end of a biro, maybe it means it's a kitten or something?

If so, you may want to give it some water before now and the 25th.....

  10. I'm voting for a cute little teddy bear with an absolutely gorgeous diamond necklace round it's neck AND several gift cards to your favorite stores in his little paws! Don't peek! It ruins the suspense & surprise.

  14. I can't wait to find out what it is! You're gonna write a post about it, right? RIGHT?! :)

  15. It looks like it might be some kind of gift basket, but I don't know how soft or squishy it is. Could also be some kind of plant--maybe a fake one?

  16. This really is a mystery. The weird thing is that it's really bugging me now that I need to know what that is!

  17. I'm with blueviolet. I want nothing more than to shake, prode and meditate over this gift. I'm pretty sure I'm a gift psychic, but I need to get my hands on it. Is he the type of man who messes with you?

  18. Whatever it is, it looks kinda poky on that one side.

  19. I have what we call the "Present Power" all I need you to do is tell me about how heavy it feels, what you THINK it feels like (you say stuffed animal?) also is there a handle on the top???

I think you should wait so you can be surprised when you open it BUT, if you really wanna know i could be able to help!

  20. Just tell him, "If it's a severed head, I'm going to be very upset."

    That should cover it.

  21. Maybe it's a new Kitty, Amber... since Natalie has Kitty #1 ... I mean you did say that Tom is being deployed soon right? Hummmmm...

  22. Have you given it a shake? I use that trick a lot :)

  23. I dont know but I hope it is a stuffed animal holding a Gymboree, Kohls AND B&N giftcards!!!

  24. I love gift cards...impersonal nothing!! Getting a gc shows that you care enough to have the other person actually buy something they want!!

When I showed the pic to the man, he said he thought it looked like the steering wheel of a boat - like a captain's wheel...but I don't think those a squishy!

  25. The first thing I thought of was one of those hamster balls. Presumably containing a hamster. Which by Christmas will be dead, unless it possesses superpowers.

Have fun with your dead/mutant hamster!
(For your sake I really hope I'm just very bad at present identification.)

  26. A bowling ball bag?? HaHa! No clue what it could be but I hope you share with us when you do find out.

  27. It's a Snuggie!

Maybe you could accidentally trip over it and rip the paper.

  28. Hmmm...massagey-y pillow thing that suctions to the bathtub? A Twilight Turtle? (which I promise is in no way related to the likes of tween vampires!)

    ReplyDelete
  29. A dozen pairs of super fluffy socks and tucked inside each one a gift card to a different store.

Please post on Christmas or as soon after as you can, I'm terribly curious now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. A mixer, a plant, a ??? no clue :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've got it! It is a thingy-do ... or something - gosh now I want to know!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am laughing at everyone's responses! It's so cute! All of them like little kids proding around presents under the Christmas tree. :)

Whatever it is I hope it surpasses your wildest imaginations!

    ReplyDelete
  33. After all of this hype, it had better be something good,eh? :) Tell the kind-hearted man that he put the paper on upside-down...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Its a Guess Handbag! I have xray vision when it comes to Christmas prezzies.

  35. I'm with you on the gift cards. Even just plain ol' cash is fine by me. Oooh, maybe Tom gave you a package full of cash to be spent whereever you wish. That looks like it could be a lot of cash- does he have a secret casino habit? ;P

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oooh! Exciting! It had better be good after all this speculation!

    ReplyDelete
  37. You know, the angle of the one side of the gift looks like a handle. Is it a purse?

    ReplyDelete
  38. My husband doesn't care about suspense either....and he knows better than to leave an unattended present, because I'll be in it....he has my presents stored at an unspecified location, which I think is my Mom's...I'm going to be bribing Mom with chocolate bark soon...lol

  39. I have absolutely no idea. A funky shaped purse? LOL

Let us know what it is as soon as you find out!

  40. I had to come back and tell you that karma is a bitch. My husband brought 3 presents in yesterday evening wrapped IN THE SAME PAPER!!! And it's impossible for me to open them the way he wrapped them. UGH!

I can tell you that he bought the paper and gifts at Target if that gives you any clue.

    ReplyDelete
  41. oh well now im just super curious myself... i wonder now too!!!

    cant wait to find out!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't know, but that's precisely why Curtis and I never wait until Christmas to give each other ANYTHING. We're both far too impatient. We use the "Christmas is for the kids" excuse and give each other our presents early!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hmmmmm.....it doesn't rattle. Let's see...Is it bigger than a bread box? Maybe it IS a bread box!

Maybe that's not really it's shape, but Tom doesn't know how to wrap presents and that's just how it turned out. OR Tom really DOES know how to wrap presents and he wrapped it this way just to throw you off.

    Hmmm......the plot thickens.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like that it is wrapped or placed upside down.

Looks like a purse to me.

Drives me crazy how patient my husband is I would want to know

    ReplyDelete
  45. I can't wait for you to find out! The shape is intriguing.

  46. A Chewbacca mask like in Stepbrothers? I got nothin.
