The One with Tommy

It’s true.

There aren’t as many photos of my son Tommy on my blog.

It’s mainly because he does this:

And he asks me to take pictures of inappropriate things. Like his butt.

Or a dead bug with its guts spewed out all over the sidewalk.

But I decided I’d try my hand at getting some good pictures.

It didn’t go so well at first.

As he did this, he was all, “Hey, baby.”

“Tommy,” I cut in before he started to ask me to take a photo of his backside. “Think of something nice. Maybe that’ll help.”

“MUFFINS!” Tommy said.

Okay. I get that. Muffins do rock. So long as they’re the good kind. Not the bran tastes-like-bark kind.

“So tell me how you’re doing at school, Tommy.” Because Lord knows, usually when I ask I get the dreaded “fine” and sometimes, on really good days, I get “It was fine.”

“School is a strange place,” Tommy answered.

“Can you expand?” I pressed.

“I’m in a BAND!” Tommy shrieked. He has the attention span of a gnat.

“Well, what’s your favorite subject in school?” I tried again.

“Who be eating all my chocolates?” Tommy responded. (Me, probably.)

“What are you going to do on school picture day?” I pleaded.

"This," Tommy said.

"Or this."

Um. I think I might pass on buying photos this year.

  3. LMAO! I have one of those too! It takes a good HOUR to get his (JUST his) yearly picture done...I have to shoot hundreds of pics and try to keep him engaged so I "might" get a decent pic when he's distracted. ALthough it never really fails that some of my favorite pics are usually the ones where he's making some oddball face...because it really shows who he is ;)
    great pics :D

  4. Ohhh, I GET this! I have two boys, 11 and 7. They rarely allow me to take their picture anymore and when they do, they insist on making those crazy faces. I have to sneak up on them like a wildlife photographer if I want a really good shot.
These are great shots of Tommy though...very REAL.

  8. My stepdaughter has few pictures where she isn't making a face. As your Tommy clearly demonstrates, they're still cute, even when making faces and acting goofy.

  10. I think you should definitely take a picture of his butt. I have a feeling he will sing a different tune when he sees it.

  11. Tommy is so funny! Its a boy thing, with the butt. My brothers did that a lot when they were younger!

  12. You do not need an attention span, or a trust fund for that matter, if you look like Tommy.

  23. He's incredibly photogenic, even when he's giving you a goofy face! Wouldn't you hate to be one of those poor people that takes school pictures???

  24. I am pretty much scared to admit that Elijah is the EXACT SAME WAY. Exact. I can't get a good pic of him to save my life.

  25. He is soooo cute. He and Natalie look alot alike. Same exact smiles. I especially like the last photo. What a ham.

  26. I agree -- he's beautiful and hysterical. And it looks like he stood in one place for a good long while (or more likely: cycled through these expressions like Robin Williams during his coke-fueled days, but then kudos to the photographer who caught them all). My daughter won't stay in place long enough to get more than one shot AND she is now in that phase where she seems to have forgotten how to smile. We're getting weird ovoid-shaped grimacy mouths a lot, even though she's trying to smile.

  33. Awesome pics - my daughter likes to pose like that too, although she has never ever asked me to photograph a dead bug or her bottom!

  34. He's a cutie. I actually went in to school for picture day this year (hello, helicopter mom!) and it made no diff. They still did the canned smiles they always do. I even brought props and everything. :P

  35. He is so cute and photogenic! You might as well keep a collection of funny/strange expressions, too, because he's good at them and they're amusing. Except when you're trying for a smile, of course.

  36. Typical boy behavior.

Just the same, save your money and avoid the overpriced school pics just in case.
