Strings on Salad

Yum.

I love fondue.

I wish I had the patience to make my own fondue.

I’m glad that they make places like The Melting Pot where someone makes it for you.

I got to go to The Melting Pot when I was visiting my parents. Just my Mom and I. No children.

My kids had been driving me up the wall so I got one of these:

No, really I got it because the description sounded tasty. I can’t even remember what it was called. All I knew was that it was in a martini glass. And that it was sweet. I always feel like such a grown up when I’m sipping from a martini glass. I flash back to episodes of Sex and the City too.

We had cheese fondue, and it was spectacular. I still can’t believe Tom doesn’t like fondue.

Then came some salads, and I was a little confused as to what the strings on top of mine were:

Mom thought they were shredded beets or something. Beets frighten me so I didn’t eat much of the strings.

I don’t think I could handle rich people food. Rich people food usually contains weird stuff like beet strings.

The meat course came after that and then came my favorite part:

The chocolate fondue!

Oh gosh, if I ever couldn’t afford all the courses I’d be happy with the chocolate fondue.

I mean, look!

This is the yin and yang chocolate, the one Mom and I usually get. It’s made of white and dark chocolate and yes, you can say, “This is healthy. It has dark chocolate in it. The dark chocolate has such good qualities that it makes the white chocolate have no calories.”

I’m not sure when I’ll get back to The Melting Pot.

But until then, I’ll just think about all the wonderful fondue.

And the weird strings that were on my salad.

  13. Those weird strings, Amber, were most likely the most healthful part of your meal. Beets are fabulous food. Some kids won't eat green foods. Possibly yours was the red kind. How about red cabbage? Anyway, it appears you enjoyed your time with Mom to the heights. Hopefully you can again soon. Can I have your beets next go-round?

  16. I've never been to The Pot, but I do love melting stuff and eating food on sticks.

Beets are hateful and I don't know why they'd put such a ridiculous "food" on your salad.

  19. Lets face facts. If you want to stay healthy and as beautiful as you are now, you have to care for your body. This applies to all your readers.

To learn about all the great benefits of beets, go here:

    http://www.juicing-for-health.com/beets.

Just the tip of an iceberg:Nutritional Benefits

Beets are loaded with vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and C. The greens have a higher content of iron compared to spinach. They are also an excellent source of calcium, magnesium, copper, phosphorus, sodium and iron.

While the sweet beet root has some of the minerals in its greens to a lesser degree, it is also a remarkable source of choline, folic acid, iodine, manganese, organic sodium, potassium, fiber and carbohydrates in the form of natural digestible sugars.

Its iron content, though not high, is of the highest and finest quality that makes excellent food that is blood building. This renders it highly effective in treating many ailments caused by our toxic environment and surrounding.

  26. The melting pot is like going back to your childhood when we were all allowed to play with our food bc we were kids - til we got in trouble for it, then fun over. But yes, I would also agree with shredded beets.

  27. I too would have had difficulty ingesting those beet strings- not for me. But the chocolate, now THAT'S another story!

  28. I just think beets should be illegal.

  30. Last summer I embarassed the hell out of the BF when we were at a fancy wedding of some of his friends and I asked the waiter what the funny vegetable balls in the main course actually *were*. (Turned out they were fancy baby turnips and mini pumpkins.) I feel no shame whatsoever admitting that I don't know a thing. How else am I supposed to learn?

And it turned out the other people at the table hadn't known, either, and had been too shy/ashamed/... to ask. I was their hero. ^^

  31. I too love anything in a martini glass..duh vodka logic..

I have an old fondue pot and will use it someday. Thanks for the reminder.

  32. I have never been to the Melting Pot, but I know it's a chain and there is one near me. I've often wanted to go, though. I take it you enjoyed yourself.

And as for your martini, it looks like a Pomegranate Martini, the only martini I will drink. If you haven't tried one, you're in for a treat!

  33. It does seem bizarre. I hope you go back to The Melting Pot, taste those strings and tell us what they are.

  34. Wow, lots of good info from Sissy the Beet Lady. Also? I was just saying a few hours ago that I had a yen for a cheese and chocolate fondue. HOW WEIRD IS THAT? We don't have a fondue place near us and I haven't had fondue in this century.

  36. I used to make candy for a living (jealous, aren't you? I actually enjoyed it, but got tired of never having to use my BRAIN, so I got a 'real' job), and one of the things I learned is chocolate is made from cocoa. White chocolate is white because it's had the cocoa removed. And since there's no cocoa in it, it's technically not chocolate. So it's probably technically not bad for you.

  37. Oh, yay for mother-daughter trips to the Melting Pot. What a wonderful treat! And you look absolutely gorgeous holding up your awesome drink!
