Hey, It's Okay Tuesday!

I got this idea from Glamour magazine. They have a section called Hey, It’s Okay and will list a bunch of things to be okay about. You're welcome to join in and do something like this on your blog. Doesn't have to be on a Tuesday either. If you do it, make sure you link up! (And make sure when you link up, you actually have an Hey, It's Okay post up, please.)

-------------------

To have liked the movie Captain America. I preferred the guy when he was scrawny though. I prefer skinny men to buff ones. I’d be worried they’d crush me with their bicep.

To have not had to be in two places at once after all. Remember my Friday post where I wrote how my kids each had things going on at their school at the same time? Well, turns out Tommy had a 100.5 temp and had to come home. (I swear, I’m not one of those mothers who send their kids to school sick. He was fine when he left, being loud as ever so I was surprised..)

To still prefer children’s cereals over the adult ones. I’m currently munching on Cookie Crisp.

To get annoyed when people take their kids trick or treating but don’t leave any candy out for people. When we go out we always leave a bowl of candy out that says “Please take one.” Granted, sometimes you have a brat who takes EVERYTHING. Still. The thought is there.

To not be thrilled to carve pumpkins. We had to do it on Sunday. The kids insisted. I got pumpkin goo all up my arm.

To have made homemade Rice Krispy treats for the first time. Usually I buy the already made kinds. Homemade treats are yum-mah.

To have my own candy stash from Trick or Treating. I take all my favorites from the kids. I figure it’s my payment for, you know, giving them life and all.

To have let the kids eat all the candy they wanted on Halloween. It’s one day. And it’s Halloween. (And yes, they still went to bed on time. The whole sugar makes kids more hyper thing is a myth, according to studies...it’s the excitement that makes the kids crazy, not the sugar…)

To not be surprised that Kim Kardashian is divorcing her husband. It’s
called Publicity people. I doubt the relationship was even real.

  1. OMG!! Someone else who thinks the sugar thing is ridiculous. Not saying some kids don't get a sugar high but I don't think it is a universal fact. Mine went to bed on time to and passed right out.

And Kim Kardashian? Is a spoiled little brat.

  2. Ha! It was freezing here last night and our display requires us to be "outside" handing out candy. I ran inside for FIVE minutes and left the bowl on the chair. Some little goblin emptied the stash and then disappeared into the night. Good thing I had my backup stash in the house!

  3. Note to self: When Squiggle starts Trick'or'Treating - steal the best stuff as "payment".

    Thanks for that idea ;)

  4. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get the spoils from Son's trick or treat bag this year. :( but my scale is happier!

Glad you didn't have to clone yourself to be in two places at once, though I am sorry he was sick. Hope he's feeling better now!

  5. Take One ... that reminds me of the commercial with the little girl that says, I can't read.

  6. Totally agree on the sugar thing. I trick or treat in the kids bags when they go to sleep. No costume required.

  7. I heard craft stores carry fake pumpkins that you can carve. I may have to investigate that for next year....

I've heard the whole wedding was a sham. Made up to make $$!!

  8. That marriage was over before it began.

And we used to leave out a bowl with the "Take One" sign, but nobody ever came by. We don't get many T or T'ers in our hood.

  9. I think one of the greatest things about being an adult is that you get to buy the sugariest cereals in the world if you want to!

  10. I don't like carving pumpkins either! So gross lol.

Yea, I wasn't surprised when I heard about the Kardasian divorce. I feel bad for Chris though, if what I heard was true. Apparently he found out through the news reports on TMZ. Poor guy, but he should have known what he was getting into. I saw the preview for the new show they are supposed to be doing with Kim and Kourtney taking NY with their guys. There was a scene in the preview where Chris was telling Kim it didn't matter where they lived because in a couple years no one would care about her (as in TV wise)...guess she didn't like that lol I wonder if they will still air that. Though there's always the chance it was all scripted.

  11. You could always leave out an empty bowl with the 'please take one' note, and everyone will figure the kid before took them all. Hmmm, cheap way out.

  12. My favourite cereal ever is Mini Wheats. So I hear you.

  13. I love the idea of your own stash. I've been snacking on my boys' candy all morning. It's the candy tax!

  14. I am a little sad about Kim and Kris. I wanted it to last forever. ;)

  15. fave cereal - lucky charms - for the win.

G didn't get that much candy but we tired out early.

  16. My dad always took us around trick-or-treating when we were kids. When we dumped our loot at the end of the night, he picked his favorites, then told us it was his "candy tax" for walking around in the cold with us. He's an accountant, so I guess the tax idea made sense to him. Ha.

I let mine stuff their faces with sugar and you know what? They went to bed faster and more cooperatively than they've done in a month and a half. Win.

  17. My kid wouldn't clean out his pumpkin because he didn't want to get his hands dirty, so I was on goo duty. I hate it!

Yes, I take some of my kid's candy, call it a bribe, call it theft, I call it yummy!

As for Kim Kardashian...who didn't see that coming. I wish they'd all go away, I've had more than my fill of their non-entertaining personal lives.

  18. I love your It's Okay Tuesday posts, and this was one of my favorites!! I too liked the Captain America movie, it was fun! I too let my kids eat a lot of candy, though I hate cleaning vomit up, so I did say stop at some point. And, I have never known what to make of the sugar makes them hyper, I tend to believe the studies that say it does not. And, as for Kim Kardasian, I've never seen the show but I think having "news" show devout time to it,is silly. I do like that she tried it for 72 days though, she is quite the trooper!!!! Thanks for a fun read as always!!!!

  19. Kids cereals are always better! Although not so much here in Oz. Cookie Crisp sounds awesome....

  20. So glad its OK to like kids cereal. I'm having a hankering for some Captain Crunch myself.

  21. I have no interest in carving pumpkins either. It just seems like too much mess for too little enjoyment.

  22. haha, payment for giving birth! BRILLIANT! I'll NEVER feel guilty for 'stealing' her candy ever again. It really is the least she could do.

And poor Tommy! Does this mean that you never made it to help with Natalie's craft, either?

  23. First, there ARE carve-able, fake pumpkins out there (i.e., NO GUTS)! And second - yes, it is TOTALLY acceptable to steal....err, I mean "take" candy from their haul. It's your due. Not only did you give them life; you've also cared for and loved them all these years. Not to mention you've dealt with vomit, poop and all kinds of other horrors. That candy? It's YOURS.

  24. Pumpkin-carving was something we did to take one for the team. . . I tried to play it up that scooping the guts out would be so fun, but my 2 1/2 year old put his hand in, scrunched up his face and said, "I don't wike it. It tinky." Couldn't.agree.more.

  25. I'm pretty sure that home-made rice krispie treats and store bought ones are not even the same thing. How can they taste so different? I much prefer home-made.

And I agree on the sugar vs. excitement thing. I've never seen a "sugar high" from my kids, and they are exposed to unhealthy quantities of it. I guess it's possible they just never come down from their sugar highs... Oh well.

  26. I carved too, but it was so much work! I also love Cookie Crisp...and Lucky Charms and Fruit Loops.

  27. I SO love Coco Pebbles.

Tonight, we are making rice crispy treats with these carmel vanilla marshmallows I found. I can't wait!
