Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Tiny Fries

Since it’s the new year I decided to try something different.

I’ve decided to create a weekly post called Things That Annoy Me every Thursday.

Venting helps.

------------

Okay, so I get that there is an issue with childhood obesity.

Jamie Oliver comes over from the UK and is like, “Oooo look at all these processed foods!”

And Michelle Obama is like, “Blah, blah, blah, unhealthy school lunches, blah, blah, blah.”

But.

When I ordered my kid’s a Happy Meal, I was shocked at these tiny fries.

They were, too.

I mean?

There were like TEN fries in that tiny box.

Yes, there are apple slices too but NO caramel dipping sauce.

I blame the parents who complain about junk food. And Michelle Obama. Don’t punish everyone! My kids don’t get fast food all the time but when they do, they’d like a full helping of fries with their meal. Not Ewok sized.

If the new Happy Meals must remain, let it be an option to purchase the normal ones. You know, the ones that come with a proper amount of fries so I don’t have to share mine.

If people are still complaining, oh well. The folks who can’t keep their traps shut should avoid fast food places. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us. Stick to your kale chips and celery slices.

Don’t mess with our fries.

  4. Really? I thought they were SO CUTE! A little version of my medium size for my toddler. Plus, now they come with fries AND apples. Of course, I have an almost 3 year old so she isn't up on the "fairness" thing yet. I'm sure she'll be asking for my fries soon enough.

  5. oh my GOD i hate those tiny ass fries. Yesterday I fought back!

I ordered the happy meal and asked if the only fries were the little toy-sized fries and what would I have to do to get the larger "small" fries. They said I had to upsize my kids' burger to a double burger.

From the backseat, my daughter quickly assented, and we got the small fries.

When I pulled through the drive-thru, the dumbass still gave me tiny fries and I said, "we got the bigger fries" and he wordlessly got one and gave it to us.

Both my kids are TINY and I stuff as many calories as I can into their scrawny little bodies. I get that McDonald's is under fire for the obesity "epidemic" but I'll be damned if my emaciated children are going to suffer as a result.

  6. I think most of us learn at a young age that fries are sacred. You don't mess with our fries.

  7. Bravo! If I want to eat junk then give me junk! When I don't want junk I go to a healthy store, I do not go to McD's for healthy food. Michelle Obama needs to worry aboyt what HER kids are eating NOT MINE

  8. I am lucky enough to still have little kids that don't eat much so these "little fries" are perfect for them. But seriously, my husband and I had the same look on our faces as your kids! They are TINY!(Plus I shed a little tear because I always finished my kids fries because they never would. It's a sad, sad day.)

I know it's going to be an issue in a few years. And I will NOT be sharing my fries. NO. I. Will. NOT.

  9. Since Jakes doesn't like fries, I have never had to worry about sharing them. But those tiny fries are ridiculous! Certainly not enough.......

  10. You are allowed to buy a separate order of giant fries for the kids to share (so they don't steal yours)

  11. I agree 100%. Giving less fries in a happy meal is not going to deter the people who feed their children there regularly. We go less than once a month. Don't deny me or my kid her fries!

  12. I knew they were getting smaller, but seeing it in Tommy's hand... it really illustrated how TINY the pack is!!!! HOW SAD!! Do you pay the same amount? OH, this isn't good.

  13. I'm all about less processed foods, but I think I would rather have my kids eat more fries than those apple slices. They are coated in this weird stuff to keep them from browning. It doesn't even taste like apples to me. ;)

  14. OMG!!! So glad to hear that I am not the only one irritated by those damn fries! My oldest son orders the larger happy meal (comes with 6 nuggets instead of 4) and he gets the regular fries. But then my other two are left drooling while their brother enjoys he 'extra' fries. So not fair!

  15. I totally agree with you. It ticked me off the last time my kids got a happy meal. They looked at me like where are all the fries.

  16. How funny! I actually love the small fries. It's the perfect portion for my daughter.

  17. I feed my kids very healthy meals BUT I also think it's JUST FINE to give them cookies and treats. Sheesh, balance people, balance.

  18. Geez. If they want their kids eating healthy all the time that's fine. But leave Micky D's out of it.

  19. So true - My kids don't even get McDonald's once a month. They aren't going to be obese because of a bunch of fries once in a while.

  20. I remember reading an article about this last year before the change happened. It said that you would still be able to get just fries or just apples if you asked. It didn't say that you had to pay for something extra. I would back, because that's ridiculous. We don't fight because our 3 youngest likes their little fries and apples. The girls do miss their caramel dipping sauce though.

  21. I love that pic of them looking at the fries! I agree with you. If I am choosing something, let me freaking have it.

  22. hahahahaha! I'm so with you on this!I mean..REALLY?

  23. Amen Sista....I blame the brainwashing of society and the pathetic nanny state.....But dammit!!!!I WANT MY FRIES TOO!!!!

  24. A-freakin-men!! That's exactly what went through my mind when we recently got the kids Happy Meals. It was as if a crime had been committed against them with the screaming and crying when they opened their boxes.

I agree that parents should have the choice what size fries to get their kids. My kids eat fast food every once in awhile and I see no problem with that at all.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks for stopping by :)
You are right on, everyone needs a treat now and then, it is when it is a constant it becomes the problem. Long live a normal size of fries in the happy meal!!!

  26. OMG really??? We haven't ordered a happy Meal in a while but sheesh really.

  27. In Idaho tiny fries are made fun of!
WE shake our fists at Michelle....and probably have shakey big butts too.

  28. I am somewhat of a health food nut but I totally have to agree with you. People are going to eat until they are full. Making the size smaller is only going to, as you stated, make them eat all of your food.

I rarely eat fast food, but if we're on the road chances are we're hitting up McDonalds and I let my kids order whatever they want. We eat healthy at home, I don't expect others, fast food establishments included, to do my job for me.

It's a free country for pete's sake, leave McDonalds alone. If you're going to target McDonalds you have to target every restaurant, grocery store and gas station in America. Last time I checked Whole Foods sold soda, ice cream, cookies and candy.

  29. Not in the US, so haven't had this happen to me. The Mickey D's over here is amazing and we have options you've never heard of before!! AND the food actually looks BETTER than the photos!!!! It's reallllly expensive though, so we almost never go.

So the portion is smaller, but I bet they raised the prices, lol!

  30. Wow, that's surprising!
I mean, I agree with Jamie Oliver and Michelle Obama. There's way too much processed and fatty crap being given to us (and therefore our kids). But when you indulge, you should have something to indulge in!

    ReplyDelete
  31. No kidding right! I was sooo annoyed at that too. In Oregon they let you get regular size fries & no apples if you want. I blame all those people who let their kids get fat & then bitch about it. SERIOUSLY, if you don't like it Don't Freakin Buy Them! Easy peasy Right???
