Last Day In Hawaii: Sub and Ghost Tour

(Don’t worry, this is the last Hawaii post. I swear.)

“Ooooooooo…”

“Wow….”

“Oooooooo…”

“I swear, if this guy doesn’t quit it, I’m going to shove this camera in his throat,” Tom hissed at me.

I suppressed my laugh and concentrated on the fish going by.

We were on a submarine tour deep under the ocean. It looked like this:

Sitting beside Tom was an enthusiastic Japanese tourist who got excited over every little thing that swam past the windo—

“Oooooooooo…”

“There he goes again! It was just a fish the size of my palm. And not a pretty one either!” Tom fumed.

Seriously, the guy had been making noises since the second we sat down. I could understand if it was a spectacular fish. But a TINY—

“Ooooooo…”

“I’m not kidding, he just cooed over a stick,” Tom whispered.

There were some ooooo worthy things though:

The Titanic!

I loved the submarine because I don’t scuba dive. I’m paranoid I’ll still drown and my hair hates ocean water anyway. So it was a nice chance to see the sea life. Without having to get my hair wet.

Later on we had a ghost tour. Here’s the thing about that: my camera wouldn’t take photos. This was because I have a Nikon D40 and when it’s dark, the camera has nothing to focus on. I didn’t know how to fix this. So I’d be trying to snap pictures and nothing would happen. Tom was gripping at me asking what was wrong with my “stupid camera” and I was like, “Nikki the Nikon is not stupid!”

We finally figured out how to get it to take pictures in the dark and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary:

But then I caught an orb which is kinda hard to see:

I pulled a Zak Bagans and took another photo at the exact same spot to make sure it wasn’t dust and the orb wasn’t there.

Ghost?

Who knows?

The tour was interesting though. The guide took us to different spots around Oahu and told us spooky tales. I’m sure some was for dramatic effect.

Sadly, that was our last night in Hawaii. We left the next day and endured an exciting airplane ride home. Only I wouldn’t call it exciting. I’d call it frightening. Mainly because we went through some scary turbulence—the kind where you dip down and feel like you’re on a roller coaster. I squeezed Tom’s hand and weirdly, the theme song to Dawson’s Creek popped into my head. So we’d dive down and I’d be thinking, “I don’t want to wait…”

Yeah. Weird.

Thankfully the plane calmed down and everything was peachy again.

I miss Hawaii. In a couple of years Tom and I want to go back. Maybe we’ll explore the other islands.

The kids were fabulous for Tom’s Mom while we were gone. Did we miss them? Yes. But I think it’s important for a couple to get time away from the kids. Would we go on vacation without the kids again?

Without a doubt.

That's crazy that you might have seen a ghost! Oh gosh, that freaks the heck out of me.

  4. I thought I saw another orb outside your blue circle, but upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a smudge on my computer screen. Dang!

I'm glad you had a great time in Hawaii!

  12. So necessary! So glad you got to go and enjoy yourselves. Submarine trips like that (you know, because I frequently have them) make you wish you were rich and could just rent the whole thing for yourselves. But then, you couldn't write about the oooh and aaah man!

  13. Man, I don't mind these posts on Hawaii at all! I miss Hawaii so much! I went on the submarine ride years ago, as a teenager. I'll admit it scared the crap out of me and I didn't go again the next time I went to Hawaii. LOVE your photos though.
