Things That Annoy Me Thursday: School Ending Today

School ends for both kids today.

And yes, I love them to bits, but I’m going to miss my quiet time. In Wyoming, school didn’t get out until June. I liked that. Some parents don’t want to spend any time apart from their offspring. I am not one of these people. I was an only child, therefore I grew up enjoying the silence.

Some people might be like, “Why have kids if you think they are too noisy?” My answer is, I love having them around, but as I said before, I need to have time for myself or else I turn into a Mean Mom.

Am I looking forward to summer? Sort of. Tom will be gone so it’ll just be the kids and I. The kids don’t take me as seriously. Well, NATALIE doesn’t take me as seriously. For instance, I’ll take them to the park. I’ll warn them that they have 5 minutes left. Then I’ll say it’s time to go. Natalie either will refuse to go or will take baby steps to the car.

“Tell her to stop that!” is what I’m told to do.

Really? I did NOT think of that.

She’s stubborn. So what I have to do is pick her up and she usually kicks and screams. Or she’ll go limp, which means her 36 lb frame suddenly feels like 60 lbs.

Does she do that when Tom is here? Nope. She immediately says, “Yes, Daddy.”

And let’s not even mention the fighting between the kids.

So yes. I am dreading the fact that they are out of school today.

Wish me luck.

  1. the last day of school here is tomorrow. i'm actually looking forward to it because we homeschool, so for me, summer is when i get a break. and i really need it! also, i only have one child, so no fighting. i would hate listening to siblings fight.
funny how the same event in two families can be so different for the moms involved.

  2. In GA they got out around this time too. Here it's til the middle of June. Every place is different, but KIDS are all the same, lol! Plan some fun things and it will make the time go faster. Get some day care lined up at least once a week!!! You need your downtime!

  5. This sweet teenager at the supermarket was cashing me out the other day and she chirped, "Are you excited that it's almost summer vacation?" *Um, are you asking ME? Er, yes?* And I'm also dreading the fighting, the "I'm bored" moments and the not having a moment to myself to recharge thing.

It's a mixed feelings thing that she'll understand one day about 20 years from now.

  6. Shoot, I wonder when the neighborhood kids get out of school.

I like kids. Generally. I do... I just hate it when they all run into the middle of the street and I have to hit the brakes so much more often in my car. I hate having to drive 5 mph all the way down the street just to be safe... these kids are rowdy!! I like it when they're in school, because theres no street worries during the day!!

  8. Colin's last day is next Thursday, and I'm dreading it a little bit too - especially since, shortly afterward, I'll be having the baby. So I'll spend my summer going from two kids during the day to FOUR, one of whom is an infant. I hope I don't go totally crazy ...

  10. But they will go back to school in August instead of September, so there's always that to look forward to! My kids aren't in school yet, but I've got to tell you, I can't wait until they are and I can get some time to myself.

  11. Good Luck!! I know how you feel!

My kids get out in 2 weeks. the good thing is that all schools here went to a modified year round schedule. So they end in May and are back in July. I can handle 6 weeks. I hope. :)

  13. I so relate! I enjoy my peace and quite. I enjoy sending them off to school each day. Imagine my chagrin when we started homeschooling my oldest about 8 years ago :-) But...in the fall...they will both be in school. Happy days are coming!!

  14. Someone wants told me that stubborness in a girl is a good thing. I guess it means she won't be affraid to stand her ground when she's an adult and won't let any man push her around.

  15. The earlier they get out for summer vacation the earlier they go back!

  16. Bad time to mention that here in NZ we have year round school? We have 2 weeks holiday between three of the school terms and a month holiday during Christmas. Seriously, it's heaps better.

  17. I've been a stay at home Mom for 4 years, and she starts school in August, so I know I'll love it...and then freak out when school lets out. I feel ya!

  19. School doesn't get out for another 3 weeks for us. I have to say that I am kind of looking forward to them being out though, simply to sleep in!!! My oldest is in Kinder and only goes 2 1/2 hours... SERIOUSLY how stupid is that! If it was full days or heck even half days I don't think I would be looking forward to her getting out of school but right now the 2 1/2 hours she is in school is enough to piss me off. I have to get up early for this. Geesh!

  21. Good luck! I know you'll make it through the summer. Just think, August will be here before you know it and they'll be back in school again.

  22. Oh, I feel you, sister. I'm good 'till late June, but there MUST BE CAMP. Or she'll drive me up a tree. I won't even give her a later bedtime until she chills out a little.

  23. I, like you, know when I have kids I will want my own time. I realize it's harder to do so with kids, but in order to be a better mom, I will need time to myself. I just know that ahead of time.
