It's Here!

Well folks, it’s finally here.

The week that my kids go back to school.

No, they don’t go back today.

They go back Friday.

I know. I’m baffled at that too. Why Friday? It’s like a teaser day. The whole “we’ll take your kids for a day, give you a breath of peace, and then give them back to you for the weekend.”

Still.

I’ll take it.

School supplies have been bought.

Lunches have been mentally prepared.

(I am not one of those fancy lunch makers. You know, the mothers who make fancy shapes out of sandwiches, slice strawberries, and slip in a homemade organic treat for dessert?)

(Here’s what my kids get: a regular square sandwich, a bag of pre-packaged chips, and a Little Debbie snack.)

New shoes have been purchased. (Though Tommy claims his squeezes his feet.) (Even though HE PICKED THEM OUT!)

I am so ready for some quiet. It’s been a long summer. The kids have been constantly fighting over MY iPod Touch. (Anyone have an extra they don’t want?) They’ve been destroying my clean house. THEY ATE MY LAST TWIX BAR!

It’s time for the routine to return. I will miss them, don’t get me wrong, but it will be nice to leave a clean living room and then return to it still being clean.

If I want to play Words with Friends on MY iPod Touch...I can!

And no more Nick Jr on the TV. If I had to listen to The Fresh Beat Band sing that damn reach for the stars song one more time, I might have lost it.

  1. School's back in already? Ours doesn't start until September. But then again, they were in school until the very end of June, I remember yours were done earlier.

  2. The summer flew by! It seems like the kids were just getting out of school, and now everybody is heading back.

Their lunch sounds like what my mom made for me when I was a kid. I didn't care what it looked like. I just wanted a good lunch. :)

  3. It seems like the Summer just flew by! It's crazy that it is already back to school time. I can't wait for the day I can be excited for this haha.
That is awful that they ate your last Twix bar! I hate when that happens. Mine is Butterfingers and Resess. I hide them :D Very well!

  6. Mine went back early this year, last Tuesday! The quiet, alone time is nice but the dragging myself, and then the two of them, outta bed at 6:15 in the morning sucks!

  7. I laughed out the Twix bar statement. I look forward to the days when I can send my little one to school 5 days a week. I've got a little ways to go since she hasn't even had a birthday yet.

  8. Mine started their second week of school today - and I am quite enjoying the quiet. No Sponge Bob or ICarly. Though, my teen is supposed to catch the bus at 6:20 - today was the second day she missed her alarm - and tomorrow she'll have to start paying me to get up and take her :-)

  9. Doing a happy dance for you! And holding my breath for the 29th woot :) I have 5 boys and REFUSE to make cold lunches. At their new school, I have to provide snacks and that is stressful enough, lemme tell ya. Just eat off the tray...I did and look how I turned out........oh.......right...

  13. Ours go back day after Labor day. So they will go Tuesday and Wednesday, then the school is closed for primary day, then they go on Friday.

    It's a working mother's day care nightmare.

Enjoy your day of peace. Maybe you can stock up on Twix bars...

  14. I'm fairly certain the memories I have of my mom being the happiest are when my brother and I started back to school in the fall. One of the many things I have started to understand since becoming a mom.

And, not to sound all stalkerish, but my 3 year old son just watched Tangled (or "Princess Movie" as he calls it) the other day and I totally thought of Natalie. Totally a cute movie, but its only made a couple showings at my house. I am sure I will want to hang myself if he is still insisting on it for every quiet time for the next six months. :)

  15. The kids and the shoes - make me nutty. At the store "I LOVE THEM. No, they don't pinch or chafe anywhere!" Later, "um, I'm not sure they feel that good anymore."

    Argghhh!

  16. I've never understood that either, going back to school on a Friday.

Our school is only starting on the 3rd of September, but we only had vacation since 1 July.

Enjoy the last couple of days with the kids at home!
