Countdown to Disney World Part Two

We leave for Disney World NEXT WEEK!

I’ve started to pack.

It’s not going well.

Let me count the ways.

1. Natalie wants to bring all her princess dresses. All her princess toys. All her princess plastic shoes. She has her own mini suitcase because of this. I told her she can bring whatever she can fit in there. Naturally, not everything fits so she’s like, “But..but..I’ve got to bring my Cinderella doll, she’ll be scared all alone here! I can’t leave my Tiana dress behind. I HAVE TO BRING MY CROWNS! ALL OF THEM!”

2. I can’t fold. I sort of ball everything up. Tom folds better than I do. It’s his military training. When we go on trips, his side of the suitcase is always neatly folded while my side…is not. Of course Tom is deployed so the entire suitcase is bound to look scary.

3. I’m running out of room. Everything is going in one large suitcase. My stuff. Tommy’s stuff. Natalie’s clothes. (Her mini suitcase is for her dresses/toys/shoes/etc..) I could bring another suitcase, because we’re riding Southwest, and they don’t charge for luggage. (Love Southwest.) I don’t want to bring another suitcase because Tom won’t be here to help. Tommy can help, but he has low muscle tone, which means pulling things can be a struggle. Then he gets frustrated because he’s like, “Most kids my age can do this! Why can’t I?” And it causes a meltdown. Natalie would TRY to help but she’s not big enough. Plus, she’s in charge of her mini suitcase (which I can almost bet she’ll pawn off on me when she’s tired of dragging it around.)

4. I can’t figure out what clothes to bring. I have 1 dress. The rest of my clothes are capris and t-shirts. I am not stylish. I figure I’ll be sweating through all of this stuff because it’s HOT at Disney World. My shoes will be my Sketchers and flip flops. I refuse to wear Crocs. Tommy is wearing his tennis shoes because sandals make his toes feel weird. Natalie….well, okay, Natalie has like 5 different pairs of sandals. My fault. Not hers. I got a bunch of them for 70% off at Target and now I can’t decide which ones should come or not.

5. I worry I’ll forget something. I think to myself, “Okay, I have underwear. Check. Bras. Check. Pants. Check. Little Debbie snacks. Check.” I should make a list. I’m not a list person.

6. “Mommy, I have to bring my dog Princess! I have to bring my books! NO ONE CAN BE LEFT BEHIND!!” Did I mention I have a daughter who wants to bring EVERYTHING she owns?

Yeah.

So wish me luck that I can figure this packing situation out.

Because next week, we are Disney bound!

  1. t-shirts and capris are fine! Dress for comfort, not style. Its Disney World! Its hot, its humid, and every mommy will be as tired as you dragging kids through lines all day :P

  2. Good luck. I hope Na can pack her suitcase tight enough. Hold out on those dresses for her, yes, her suitcase only.

  3. Agree with Jess. Bring whatever clothes that you will be comfortable in, after all it's Disney World. It's not gala dinner or something. Happy packing and happy holidays!

  4. My boyfriend's mom is taking his nephew to Disney. I'm a little jealous. I've never been

  5. Sometimes you just got to tell the screaming little monsters, "No."

I hope you actually enjoy the visit to Disney World. It is supposed to be fun... not an entry into the "well, all the other mommies do this" contest.

  6. I agree. Dress comfortably. I'd limit Nat to a couple of outfits - princess dress, shoes and crowns - I mean, to pack in her little suitcase. It will be too hot to wear her dress every day to Disneyland, unless you are doing the breakfast with the Princesses. My sister did this recently with her granddaughters. It was pretty funny. When Cinderella autographed a book for one of my great nieces, the niece said, "What's this SCriBBLE SCRABBLE?" real loud! She couldn't read it because it was in cursive! Too funny!

  8. My daughter is going to a princess party tomorrow in Jersey and she is trying to make me pack all of her dresses! I told her she only needs one and she said, "Pack them all and I'll choose whoever I want to be that day!"
    Sigh.
I feel for you because this is just a quick road trip to Jersey for one night. Makes me shudder to see what she'd try to pack for a week all the way down in Florida!

  9. I agree with dressing for comfort. It will be hot and humid. I always wear t-shirts and shorts. I can't wait to hear how the trip went!

  10. Oh boy Natalie!! You need to cut your mom a break!! But yeah, not happening. Stick to your wardrobe because the heat is just awful right now and yeah, avoid the extra suit case because you will probably bring more home with you than you left with. I think you need another suitcase for that.

  11. Sounds like so much fun! Seems to us that you can't have enough princess dresses so we side with Natalie on this one! ;)-The Dose Girls

  12. Good luck packing! I don't think you need to be stylish at Disney ;)

  13. Who needs Disney?
Your packing adventures are entertainment enough.

  14. So jealous!!! Can you pack me?

  15. We last went in mid-August and almost died from the heat. June should be good.

  16. It is so humid here. I brought mostly the shortest shorts I've ever owned that I bought just for this trip and tank tops!

  17. In Japan, women go everywhere in high heels. Just another reason why I stand out! If I'm going to enjoy myself, I need to be comfortable.
Can Natalie wear a couple of dresses when you fly to save space. Not that I've ever tried that.....

  18. Have fun! I am an under-packer. I always figure, I'm not going to a 3rd world country. If I forget anything, I'll buy a replacement!
You will only be a couple of hours from me, wave as you pass over! lol

  19. Good luck with the packing. I'm anxious to hear what Natalie ends up leaving behind. Ugh, Disney World in June... I don't like hot and humid.

  20. Natalie and I have the same packing philosophy. I hate leaving anything behind. I'm always forced to take things out of my suitcase because it won't fit. And it kills me inside to do so.

  22. wow, sounds exciting. I was at Disney with my twins last year and it was fun minus us(me and hubs) being at the 'work' mode all the time.

You might want to buy some energy bars(healthy ones) and dry fruits for the trip.
I would suggest you to pack pair of jeans(2 maybe) and comfy tops. Iam not stylish and back in 2009 I went to universal L.A without the kids, and boy the capris froze me(Yeah in LA) so hope it helped!
I think sketchers are a wise choice.:)

  23. I fold everything in half and roll it up... I find way more fits that way.

Can you give Tommy a backpack if you need extras?

We went last June... just the kids and me, but I drove as I'm a wee bit closer than you are. There was a tropical storm so we wore flip flops most days... easier to navigate in the rain.

Have a wonderful time making memories!

  24. So exciting!! We went to Disney for our honeymoon and are DYING to go back!!! Have a great time and good luck packing!

  25. I hate packing! Usually, I'm in charge of gathering all the clothes and necessities and my husband is in charge of packing it all in the suitcase. Divide and conquer!
