Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Halloween Nonsense

If your older kid is planning on going Trick or Treating, make sure he or she has a costume on.

It so irks me when I see older kids come up in regular clothes and want candy. At least put on a Halloween themed shirt or something. Last year a kid came over in regular clothes and actually told me what candy to give him. No. I gave him a tootsie roll.

Also, if you plan on taking your kid out Trick or Treating, leave a bowl of candy out. I get if both parents go with the kid but it bugs me when they get all this candy and then have nothing for the neighborhood. I feel it's only fair to have SOMETHING out if you plan on having your child get some candy.

Why do I say this?

Because on a military base, you get tons of kids. The less houses that do it, the more houses kids come to. Meaning the people who ARE passing out candy run out quickly. I bought 8 bags of candy. Last year I did 6 and I ran out thanks to the many number of houses that didn't have candy. Some people might not celebrate Halloween, but many did because their homes were decked out in decorations for the holiday. Most people are honest and will only take one piece of candy if a bowl is set out.

I hope Halloween goes well this year.

And I also hope for lots of chocolate.

  1. I HATE when the kids show up with no costume. Usually teenage boys. Like... at least put in an effort.

  2. One year we had a pregnant teen-age girl (not in costume!!) collecting candy - so not cool!!!

  3. I agree. At least try and look like you aren't just there for the goods! We don't have trick or treaters around here...it's all about the fall carnivals and trunk or treats and I kinda like that!

  4. I used to set out a bowl of candy. But there are no honest kids in my neighborhood, unfortunately. So we stopped doing that.

  5. I am all about some Kit Kats so I hope none of the ones I bought get eaten! ;)-Ashley

  6. I used to resent the older boys but then I decided I liked them doing something harmless and a little childish rather than getting into trouble. We may go to the kids' house and pass out candy while they all go trick-or-treating.

  7. That is a lot of nonsense! I'm glad you gave that kid a tootsie roll. We live in the woods so we have to travel to trick or treat and we don't get any trick or treaters. I guess we're lucky. All taking and no giving. Oops!

  8. We put out a bowl on our porch while we're gone, and I pray that it will be gone when we get back! Last year it finally was!!

  9. We dress our dogs up every year and last year [our first on this post] kids would come and go. A few without costumes came up and demanded candy. I let my Chihuahua go after them. The parents who didn't find it entertaining, chewed my butt. Then I gave them an ear full as to how inappropriate it was for a TEEN to tell ME a 30 year old woman 'what' to give them, 'at' my home. They quickly walked away.

Best part was, the chihuahua almost came back with a shoe. VICTORIOUS!!!

  10. yup, I hate the no costume thing! we don't get that many kids, but growing up, my parents' house got a ton. I remember these kids (I actually knew them, they were a year or two younger than me) coming and just looking at me when I opened the door. I was like, um, don't you say something? don't look at me like I owe you something, say trick or treat! dumb.

  11. I pretty much hate teenagers that trick or treat. I have no interest in seeing a slutty 15 year old at my door begging for candy.. LOL
6 bags is CRAZY!! We've never lived on base, but we did trick or treat there last year, and there were a TON of people.

  13. I'm with you - you want candy you've got to make SOME kind of effort on a costume.
