Is Your Kid Weird During Performances Too?

"Why is she mooing at us? Is it part of the show?" I asked Tom.

"I don't think so. The show hasn't even started yet," he answered.

"Mooooooo!"

There went my daughter again.

We were at her music program. She was settled on the floor, waiting to begin the songs.

And while she waited, she mooed.

When it was time to begin, she got in position. Mooed at us again. And then started the square dance. (And sorry for the poor quality in photos. I don't know what I'm doing with my camera.)

During the next part, she went, "Not the promenade! I have to touch a boy!"

There were other dances:

And in between waiting for the new number, Natalie either mooed at us or she whispered things to her friends.

She also did this:

She must've thought, "I'm not being weird enough. I better puff out my cheeks." Because she did this for the rest of the show.

For the final number, Natalie took a break from puffing out her cheeks and brayed like a donkey:

The towel is under her because they did towel aerobics to the song, "Let's Get Physical."

And then she puffed out her cheeks again:

For the final act, the kids could come out and pick someone to do the chicken dance with them.

"Have fun," I told Tom.

"You can go," he said.

"Kiss my ass." We talk like that to each other sometimes. With love.

Natalie wanted Tom anyway.

I didn't get the best pictures, because Tom made sure he was in the very back.

When it was all over, I asked Natalie why she was puffing out her cheeks.

"I was nervous," Natalie explained. "I do that when I'm nervous now."

Okay?

"And the mooing? And the braying?" I continued.

"I like animals! Silly Mommy!"

Oh, okay, I'm the silly one.

At least she was entertaining...

my daughter is the same. she's either horribly shy and just stands there. or she is a complete idiot.

  9. How sweet!! Love the pictures! I bet this is as close as Chuck Norris will ever get to a chicken dance :-) Lily had a performance a couple of weeks ago and during her first lines she giggled, afterwards she was a pro, even prompting the other kids everya once in a while. But I've seen performances when the first thing she did on stage was lifting her skirts.. Proud mom?

  10. ha!
The jury is still out for performances for us. Scarlet was cast as a seal in last year's play but she didn't do much of anything.
Actually, I think that is her weird thing.

  11. Hilarious story! We have a nephew who is a total ham the same way your daughter is. My son isn't old enough for performances yet, but I can totally see it happening.

  15. Hilarious! My youngest son does weird stuff like that too. I guess maybe they're just nervous and don't know what to do with themselves!
