Please Don't Let My Son Turn Out Like This

You might recall that I did a post entitled Please Don't Let My Daughter Turn Out Like This.

I decided to do one for my son.

Now, my son Tommy is not like his sister. He's quiet. He prefers to keep to himself.

But the silent ones can also turn into crazy people.

Let's begin.

I would not want Tommy to turn out like Joe Carroll from The Following.

You don't want Joe as your friend. He's a serial killer who likes to slice women open. Oh, and he enjoys taking out their eyes too. Don't let the British accent fool you. I would not want my son to be insane. I wouldn't even know how it would feel to know you birthed a serial killer. I'd prefer not to, thanks.

Suppose when he turns into a teenager, he becomes mean like Joffrey In Game of Thrones?

Joffrey is an evil brat! I feel like punching his smug face whenever he's on screen. His mother is just all, "Oh, my sweet boy, la la la." He's NOT SWEET AT ALL! HE'S INSANE! (And he'll be getting his. If you read the books, you know...and you cheered..)

But, oh no! Maybe he'll be like Hannibal Lecter.

He's another serial killer. Only he eats his victims. Mind you, he's incredibly smart, so that part would be nice. But the murdering and eating people? No. Sometimes I want to tell my son, "Please don't grow up murdering and eating people," but I worry he'd think I was odd.

I doubt he'd ever be a serial killer. But what if he ends up like Ben Linus?

Ben is a good liar. I don't want my kids to lie to me. Ben also has creepy eyes. I don't want my son to grow up with creepy eyes. Ben also allowed his daughter to be killed since he was obsessed with the Island. I don't want my son to let my grandchild die over an island.

Then I think, what if he grows up and is really attractive and turns mean because of it? It seems to be what happened to Ryan from Million Dollar Listing New York.

Like Joffrey, Ryan is smug. He's an ass. He seems to think he's better than everyone else because he sells million dollar homes. I want Tommy to treat everyone with kindness. If he didn't, I'd want to strike him with my purse and ask what happened to my sweet boy. I wouldn't CARE if he was rich. I'd say, "Just because you have money, it doesn't make you any better than anyone. Have you not seen The Family Man with Nicholas Cage? He was rich but lonely and discovered, ahhh, he was happier NOT being rich and with a family."

The chances of Tommy turning out like any of these men are slim to none. (I hope.)

He IS sweet.

If I see him begin to turn mean, that's when I'll sweep in and remind him to stay nice.

He has Aspergers so I imagine he'll always be quiet and timid.

So long as he stays KIND, quiet, and timid...

  1. I like this list. I would not want my son to turn out like these men either.

My son also has Asperger's. Sometimes, I wonder if he will be like Dexter. Quiet and sweet, until you do something bad. :x

I also worry about him being like Bruce Banner. Roped into something because of his genius and then becoming a monster because of it!

    Ack! The things we think!

  2. I hope my son doesn't become like this men either. But with the sweet nature, I doubt either of our sons will. Plus, you and hubby are teaching him to be kind to everyone. That makes a big difference as well.

  3. My son is more quiet and shy, too. I'm with you...as long as kindness is in there, then it will be okay. Including Joffrey in this list made me laugh. GAH!! ANYONE BUT JOFFREY!!--Lisa

  4. Have you ever seen Parenthood? Why is the kid with Aspergers on that show such an obnoxious little sticker obsessed jerk? It makes me think of how sweet Tommy is. If I didn't know about Tommy from your blog, I would think all kids with Aspergers were like the kid on that show.

  5. Yikes - what a list!! I hope that neither of my sons turn out like any of these guys - quiet is fine, crazy - not so great!

  6. I don't think Tommy will become any of these.

He could be like Hank from Parenthood. Hank is one of my favorites!

  7. Good list of bad folks! He can have Joe Carroll's charm and Jeffrey's title though :)

  11. Thats scary to think that those men are someone's son... yikes I definitely don't want my sons to be like that either. Youre a good mom...he'll turn out A-OK!

  12. Those characters are crazy...yeah...I think their parents should not be too happy about the ways they turned out...

  13. How about Sheldon from Big Bang Theory? Jim Parsons. He is extremely smart and has Aspergers. And not a serial killer.

  14. You are hilarious. Just the fact you're even thinking about these things places you far above the majority of the parents out there. You care about your boy and are active in his life. I say that's a winning combination for a non-serial killer future!

Stopping by to visit and also let you know I've nominated you for the Liebster award :) You're one of my favorite blogs and I really love reading your posts. You can check out the rules and regs on my page/see all the terrible things I wrote about you (kidding). I'm not going to link to it here because then I'd be "that" commentator.

  15. I definitely would not want my boys to turn out like that either! Scary thoughts there!

  16. Joe Carrol scares the crap out of me. Seriously, every week I say I will not watch that show! And every week I get sucked back in (well, there is also Bacon, and bacon is always good.) But he's soooo evil.

Joffrey is a mean brat - well, insane. but he's also a huge coward. I feel like if I could just go "BOOO!" really loud I met scare him away.

But Ben - he was the creepiest of all. There was just something about that character (dem eyes!), that he is the one I would least want to meet in a dark alley. He was smart too. Smart and crazy AND with something to lose, is much worse then just plain ole psycho crazy.

  17. I used to have irrational worries when my boys were little too and I am pleased to report all 3 are young adults and no one is a serial killer...that I know of!!

  18. Though I'm not yet a mom, I have these thoughts all the time. What if my son/daughter turns out to be a total a-hole?! Maybe it has something to do with what I see around me. Kids who are incredibly disrespectful of their parents, their elders, to their friends...

And the guy from Million Dollar Listing is the worst. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Your son has a loving mother who teaches right from wrong and is not afraid to correct bad behavior. Maybe these other guys just needed a good can of whoop ass?

Stopping in from SITS sharefest and hope you are enjoying your weekend!

  19. I had a quiet, shy little boy who has grown up into a reserved, super cool, driven, kind of lazy teenager. I'll take it!

P.S. I nominated you for a Liebster Award. I know, I know, it's kind of for newbies but I was nominated recently and I was in the mood to answer random questions and offer random facts about me so if you're up for doing the same, come answer my questions!

  20. Great use of GIFs! If we only knew how our kids would turn out! I try NOT to think about tomorrow and just do the best I can to shape them today. But, I'll admit I say a lot of prayers in my head most days. At least when it comes to my boys. (visiting via the SITSsharefest). Steph

  21. I just saw the new Game of Thrones where Joffrey "got his" and it was PHENOM - it was great seeing it happen. He was such a BRAT! Yeah if my son turned out like any of those its time to 'check him' lol Have a great one -Iva

  22. I read the books after the first season and I've been laughing at Joffrey's stupid face because I know what's coming.

  23. How the heck do you keep loving your kid if they turn out to be a serial killer?

Don't think you have anything to worry about though.

  24. I think the odds are in your favor that Tommy will NOT turn out to be a serial killer or a huge jerk! LOL!
