It Turns Out, Maleficent Had A Reason To Be Angry...

"Are you ready to go?"

"Yes! But I need this toy, and this toy, and this toy. Oh, and my blanket," Natalie answered primly.

Sometimes when we go out, she feels the need to bring most of the contents of her room.

I told her she could pick ONE toy. She reluctantly agreed, but sighed, "My other toys are going to be sad. Sorry, guys. It's my Mommy's fault."

We were going to see Maleficent, a movie Natalie had been aching to see for weeks.

We arrived at the theater early. I wasn't sure how busy it would be. Turns out, only one other family joined us.

Here's Natalie in the theater with her blanket and toy, who was able to obtain its own seat.

The movie wasn't scary. Some people were worried it might frighten their children. If your kid is sensitive then perhaps this isn't the movie for them. But Natalie knew Maleficent couldn't possibly be ALL mean.

It turns out, Maleficent had a reason to be pissed off.

Maleficent is meaner in the Sleeping Beauty film. But you have to understand, these movies are different. So don't expect Angelina Jolie to do or say everything that Maleficent did in Sleeping Beauty.

She does say this though:

And she does have her crow.

There are some dark moments, but really, it wasn't that bad. Natalie wasn't afraid at all. In fact, she's now a fan of Maleficent.

Basically, the moral of the movie is, don't piss off a woman.

  1. I'm not even an Angelina fan and thought the movie was great! Glad Natalie liked it! :-)

  2. Your daughter looks roughly the same age as mine (7 1/2) and she takes 84564 toys with her on a 5 minute drive. It's ridiculous.

We'll probably watch it when it comes out via Redbox. My daughter doesn't like going to the movies--she says it's too loud. But it's good to know it's not too scary.

  5. My 16 year-old went to see it Saturday.

    Yes. 16 year-old.

She said it was good, but she expected more from all the hype.

And now that I know the moral of the movie...sounds like a winner to me!

  6. Glad to hear that it's not scary. :) Then again, my 8 year-old watched Willy Wonka when he was younger and it didn't faze him. Neither did the ROUS in The Princess Bride.

  8. I remember many days when getting out of the house was a chore because we had to make sure that the right toys came on the outing!!!
    Glad Natalie wasn't scared.
And, I agree - the moral should always be - don't piss the woman off!!

  11. I SO want to see this movie...unfortunately, my movie partner (19 year old son) isn't so enthusiastic.

And, yeah...the whole moral thing about pissing off a woman - I can agree with that!

  14. Sounds like a pretty good moral of the story to me:) I'm glad to read this because I had assumed it would be pretty scary!! I love how Natalie blames Mom for her toys' sadness.. classic!

  15. I want to see that sometimes soon...I have a feeling that they put all the scary parts in the trailer, because the trailer is surprisingly intense for a pg-rated movie...

  16. I want to see it!
Scarlet was so scared even of the trailer and now she's begging to go. I'm wary only because she was so scared by a commercial! However maybe we'll watch it at home.

  17. I want to see this! I got the impression from the trailer that it was not exactly the story I grew up with. And Angelina as evil Mal? Oh boy... that would be a sight to see.

  20. HAHA! I like that moral and I think it needs to be promoted in any movie possible. Really people, don’t piss us off. Having the theatre to yourself is a dream!

  24. That's a great moral for any movie! I haven't seen this movie or really any previews for it. I should probably look it up and check it out.
