7 Reasons Why Gilmore Girls Is One Of My Favorite Shows

I started watching Gilmore Girls BEFORE I had kids.

I immediately fell in love with the show.

I watched Lorelai Gilmore and thought, "THAT'S the kind of mother I want to be."

For those who don't know, it's basically about Lorelai and how she raises her daughter Rory. Oh, and she had her at 16. So maybe Rory sort of raises Lorelai too. They live in a small town called Stars Hollow. All sorts of amusing people live there. (Kurt! Luke! Miss Patty! Mrs. Kim!)

So why is the show one of my favorites?

Let me count the reasons.

1. Lorelai and her daughter Rory are not morning people. Me either. I've written about it before. Many times.

2. Rory loves books. And she sniffs books. Me too. I have a photo on my Instagram where I'm sniffing a book.

3.  Lorelai understands the importance of caffeine. She loves coffee. I love Diet Coke. If we go without it, we aren't happy people.

4. Like Lorelai, I think I confuse my mother sometimes. She probably doesn't understand how someone who could be raised on fruits and vegetables and very little soda could now stuff her face with junk food and need Diet Coke in order to stay nice.

5. Mrs. Kim never fails to make me laugh. I'm grateful my parents weren't as overprotective as Mrs. Kim.

6.  There are so many awesome lines in the show. I actually say this one often. I know you're my kind of person if you get the reference. Some people go ?!! when I say it. But some are like, "I love Gilmore Girls too!" and I know we'll be friends forever.

7.  Lorelai is a fantastic mother.

I'm proud to say that I have Natalie watching the show with me. If she hears the opening credits, she's all, "Gilmore Girls!" I hope we have the same relationship as Lorelai and Rory. I want the same relationship with my son, only it'll be slightly different. But we bond over our love for cake.

Do you like Gilmore Girls?

  1. Can I second your post in its entirety? I used to drop everything when Gilmore Girls came on. I wish they would do re runs of Gilmore Girls here instead of Nanny or Roseanne for the umpteenth time!

  2. I love Gilmore Girls. I used to watch it every day when Gabbie was a baby and she would always perk up when she heard the opening theme!

  3. I've only watched bits here and there, but I am beyond excited that Netflix will be streaming it come October 1. Totally going to watch it all!

  4. I never gave Gilmore Girls a shot, which makes me sad because with your explanations, it sounds right up my alley. I'M COMING NETFLIX! Caffeine, smelling books, smarty pants lingo, I want.

  5. I've never missed an episode..
    I miss it.
I love to smell books. I hate mornings. I hate them. I already have morning problems and I wake up two hours earlier than I'd like to feed two humans and three pets. And there's a litterbox.
    Can barely handle it.

  6. I loved watching that show. When it ended and i watched the final episode i cried...a lot. I was sad for a few days too. It was one of my favorites and i bonded with those two characters in away i usually only connect with characters in books!

  7. Plus they love coffee and junk food, how could you not love them?

  8. I record this show every single day, and watch the series over and over. It's a guilty pleasure for sure. My fiance claimed to "hate this show" until the other day when I caught him whistling the theme song. And last night I was watching and he was like, "wait, when did Lane get pregnant??" Haha, good times :)

  9. Love Gilmore Girls! I wish it was on Netflix so I could watch it whenever I want. I really watched it once or twice a day when I was on maternity leave with the twins. My daughter would watch it with me too. We wish we knew what channel and time we could watch it now. We miss those times!

  14. I have only seen bits and pieces, but I'm super intrigued by this show. I once saw a website where they listed every book referenced (or maybe just the books the two main ladies reference) on the show. I was very curious. I wonder if this is on netflix? Must look into this more. PS: LOL You were kinda hard to find on bloglovin'. Just saying. :)

  19. My gf and I used to watch this show all the time - hilarious. I would prolly still watch it but I'm one of those super insane people who doesn't have TV and doesn't understand how to watch TV online. I betcha the library has copies of the show, though? Maybe I can get back with my Gilmore Girls after all!

    PS I promise I'm not 82.

  20. I was in junior high and high school when Gilmore Girls was on and my mom and I would watch that show together and laugh and cry.

    Best. Show. Ever.

I would like to take the credit for getting GG put onto Netflix as I tweeted Netflix to do so on a consistent basis.

    You're welcome.

When I eventually grow up I want to be just like Lorelai

  29. Nothing smells like books, right! Sadly, my kids don't feel the same way about books ... I don't know where I went wrong.

PS. Love Gilmore Girls, I mean, what's not to love?
