DO's and DON'Ts for Disney World

I have been to Disney World three times. In all those times, I discovered some helpful tips. Disney World is one of my favorite places in the world, and I always have an amazing time. But there are ways to make the trip even better..

--DO use the phrase "excuse me." Disney World can get crowded, so sometimes you'll bump into people. I was amazed at the amount of folks who didn't bother to say "excuse me" when this happened.

--DON'T cut in line. It would irk me when a bunch of family members would cut in front because the mother or father was holding a spot. I can understand bathroom breaks, but if it's more than three people, don't do it. It's rude.

--DO use fastpasses on the following things: the Mine Train ride, meeting Anna and Elsa, Hollywood Tower or Terror, Soarin' and Rock N Roller coaster. These lines were always the longest.

--DO sign your kid up for the Jedi Training Academy at Hollywood Studios. It's adorable.

--DON'T get impatient. There is a lot of waiting involved at Disney World. If you get impatient, go get a Mickey bar and cheer up.

--DO expect your kids to have at least one meltdown. Natalie was tired of walking and was offended when I wouldn't carry her.

--DO try the strawberry soup. It's at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian. It's amazing.

--DON'T inhale if you're in a crowd of people trying to get to another place. You frequently move in crowds if you go during a high peak season. I made the mistake and inhaled someone's sweat and old cheese funk.

--DO try to get to the parks early. It seems like there are tons of people, but wait times for rides are always shorter. By lunchtime, the lines get longer. If you can't get a fastpass for a popular ride, go on it first thing.

--DON'T expect to always sit if you're taking the Disney busses. We had to stand several times. After walking all day, this could get frustrating.

--DO expect to do a lot of walking. This was my FitBit count on the end of one day.

I hope these tips will help. We had an amazing time at Disney World and cannot wait to go back.

  2. We went during the second week of Nov last time and we didn't have to deal with a lot of these (no seats on the bus, needing a Fast Pass) so I think we'll be doing that again. I think the longest line we stood in was about 45 minutes. One thing that my native Floridian husband insisted on was that we would to the park when it opened, stay until we ate lunch, and then go back to the hotel for a nap. Then we'd get up and go back around 5. It was cooler and the lines had thinned out. We'd stay until everybody was ready to leave, usually around 9. So we never got totally worn out and kids were in great moods.

  4. Sort of funny (but not) that Natalie wanted to be carried - that would be hard!!!

  5. We're going for the second time with our daughter next month and fast passes are a must! Also dining reservations. And your own water bottles.

  7. I love Disney.

It's a good idea not to breathe there.

  8. I haven't been since I was a kid but good advice. Old cheese funk is not something I would want to smell. Eww!

  9. That is a lot of walking! I went to Disneyland in December and only did about 15,000 steps! I'm impressed at your 25k!

  10. We went with my in-laws and the trip was a disaster. We didn't get to do what we wanted because somehow my BIL and SIL were in charge. There was a ton of family fighting and my kids were too young to deal with the walking. I hope we can go again someday, but JUST US!

  11. Ew about smelly people!! We went in January and it was barely 70 degrees so there wasn't too much sweating.
I couldn't agree more about FASTPASSing those rides!
And is strawberry soup a dessert or a meal? I'm intrigued!

  12. Oh you forgot about staying at Disney Hotels to include the Shades of Green. If you stay at any you get magical hours. We would go early or stay late. Give the little man a really good nap and then go back to the parks for dinner and more fun rides because when magical hours are at night of course less people are there. :) My little guy loved it!
