Christmas and Star Wars and Ham

Hi, how was your Christmas?

Or if you don't celebrate Christmas, how was your Friday?

Mine was fun.

I woke up at 8 because any earlier and I'd be sitting around like this:

I told my kids to come and get me at 8. Not 508. Not 608. Not 708. But 8.

They listened.

Then we all thundered downstairs and made the cats go, "WTF?"

My teenager even smiled:

But he was also like, "Thanks Mom and Dad," every time he opened a gift. I was like, "Don't thank me. Thank Santa," with my eyes darting back and forth hoping Natalie didn't hear.

He opened another gift.

"Thanks Mom and Dad! I've been wanting Splatoon!"

"SANTA says you're welcome," I answered.

Tommy doesn't play with toys anymore so he mainly got all video game stuff.

Natalie would open a gift and talk about what she was going to A) name it and how she was going to B) play with it.

"I might name you Tiny. And you'll play with my other toys. I have lots of ponies. Pinkie Pie is the loudest."

"I needed a purse to put all my things in! I'll take this purse to stores with me. Maybe when I'm playing. But then someone might steal it. And I like this purse."

It's a zombie from Minecraft! I love Minecraft! Your name is just Zombie." And yes, that's Tom's legs in the background. He'd a little OCD so he was following the kids around, telling them to put all the wrapping paper in the bag so it didn't get scattered around the room. I was all, "We'll get it later," and Tom was all, "But this is easier."

"I've been wanting Littlest Pet Shop toys! This one looks fun. I can drive it around the house!" (Tom's still hovering.)

"An American Girl doll! Your name is Grace! And you have freckles. I have other American Girl dolls I'll introduce you to. You'll like them. They're all nice. I mean, Isabelle sometimes has an attitude, but she's nice for the most part."

As the kids were opening presents, Ruby was like, "What in the hell is happening?"

When the kids were finished, they comforted the cats. Ruby claimed the American Girl box:

Natalie showed them their toys that Santa brought:

Oh, and I got this. The bell says "ring for chocolate." I'll be ringing it a lot. I love Chewbacca so the jacket is fitting for me.

Tom got this:

After we opened presents, we went to the movie theater to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens with half of Oklahoma. The theater was PACKED and we left an hour early. But we found seats and then loaded up on nachos, pretzels, and cheese fries.

The movie was awesome! No spoilers, but you all need to see it. Natalie loved it. She's still talking about it.

And then later I had to make dinner, which I was in no mood to do, but I did it.

We had a fantastic Christmas. I'm slowly putting away decorations but the garage is Hoarder-scary, so it's slow going.

The kids got money for Christmas from relatives, so I'll be taking them to the stores at some point so they can get more stuff. Natalie wants more things she can name.

So Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

  2. Emmy got an American Girl doll last year that looks like her. I was bummed that she hit middle school and therefore is "too old" for toys this year. That Chewbacca jacket is awesome.

  3. Looks like a great Christmas!

We never did get to see Star Wars, though we'd hoped to on Christmas. I'm thinking maybe tomorrow... I'm hoping we can somehow avoid the crowds, but doubting it!

  4. Sounds like an awesome Christmas!!! I'm like your husband.. I tend to hover with a garbage bag to catch all the paper mayhem. :-) It never works out though... that bell is awesome!!! I would be ringing it all the time too! "Children! Bring me chocolate! chop chop!"

  5. What a fun Christmas! We thought about going to see Star Wars on Christmas too, but then I realized it wasn't an entirely original idea and we decided to wait. I'm not trying to stand in line or sit in the front row (like my sister had to do).

  7. Oh the Santa conundrum with young children. We think it might be a moot point with the 2 year old, but I am going to keep trying! Merry Christmas to you!
