How To Earn The Respect Of A Cat

“This post was made possible by iConnect and Petcurean. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine." #Petcurean #NourishForLife

Cats can be cruel. You'll have your arms outstretched, just wanting a cuddle, and they'll be like, "Lalala," and walk right past. Or they'll totally ignore you when you're trying to dance with them.

(Is she mocking me in this photo? I swear she is.)

It's like, "Pardon me? Did I not rescue you from the shelter? Where are my cuddles? Do I not feed you quality food from Petcurean?" (You can save $5 using the code PS113ZW997 here.)

But cats can be fickle. It's why people tend to prefer dogs.

I don't, even though I think my cats jump up on top of the entertainment center where they know I can't reach them to avoid me sometimes. (I know for SURE she was mocking me here.)

I am a total cat person. If I could afford it, I'd have a house FULL of cats. As it is, two is my limit. Three at the most, but probably not until the kids move out.

I have two cats: Max and Ruby, and they cuddle with me all the time.

I'm kidding.

It depends on their moods. For the most part, they will tolerate my love, but it's because I've earned their respect. And here's how you can earn the respect of a cat.

1. Play with them. If they're in the mood, that is. I once pulled a string near Ruby and she gave me the meanest look like, "Seriously? Do you not see I'm on my 348975th nap of the day?"

2. Brush them! My cats LOVE being brushed. Although Ruby will bite you if she feels you haven't brushed her long enough.

3. Love on them. But only if they want to be messed with. Max is more tolerant of being hugged. Ruby will bite if she is not which is probably 85% of the time.

4. Don't play musical instruments around them. If you're bad at playing, that is. My daughter recently started to play the violin, and Ruby is NOT amused. She much prefers it when Natalie goes upstairs and shuts her door to practice. Otherwise Ruby is like, "Seriously, Tiny Human? Seriously?"

5. Buy them quality food like the ones you find from Petcurean. Petcurean is a wonderful pet food manufacturer and their website is full of helpful information and tips for cats and dogs. They use certified and organic ingredients which are sustainably produced AND their food is made from scratch. Another fun fact? It's a family-owned Canadian company and they only use ingredients from North American, New Zealand, and Australia. They don't use any ingredients from China.

My cat Max was like, "OOOO is it time to eat?"

Ruby rushed over and was like, "I want some, I want some!" even though she has her own bowl.

So be sure to pick up Petcurean for your furry friend. Go HERE and use the code PS113ZW997 to save $5.

Because if you do, you'll earn your cat's respect and maybe even get a cuddle without begging for one.

If giving your pets quality food is important to you, well, you're in luck! You can win a bag of Petcurean 6 lb bag of dog kibble OR one 4 lb bag of cat kibble. (And remember, if you don't want to wait, use the code PS113ZW997 to save $5 here.)

Winner MUST live in the US and no PO boxes please.

What do you do to show your pets love? And if you have a cat, how do you earn their respect?

  1. I am one of those dog people, but we did take in my sister's cat over the summer and it took a good month, but she finally figured out who was in charge around here :)

  2. Cats are nice because they can take care of themselves, but they just don't seem too loving for the most part.

  3. We have a dog, but we have had cats in the past. My favorite, Mr. Kitty, knew he was the boss of me and everyone else! But we loved that cat so much.

  4. Our cat liked it when the kids played their instruments. Maybe tiger was deaf who knows. We always fed our animals the best food available.

  5. I let them sleep in my bed every night haha! I love that you have to make a tutorial for how to earn the respect of a cat - bc dang it's hard! lol!

  6. Fellow cat person here😻 What do I do to earn love? I am slave 24/7/365 which involves lots of petting, snuggling, and cuddling. Daily treats, brushes, water, food, etc WHENEVER asked. Also throw in baby blankets for the cat,his own bed, getting "cleaned" up with wipes after the using litter box(long haired breed)and many other luxuries. Oh and he sleeps in our bed 9 out of the 10 times he asks! But he's our fur kid and even DH whos never had a cat before&was a dog person thinks he's great and in his words "Better than Valium".
    Loved the article. Hilarious ☺😻

  7. Ha! Yeahhhh I am allergic to cats so I don't need their respect, probably because I don't really respect them and their making me sneeze? LOL

  8. This is such a cute post. My kids would love to get a cat. THeyve been asking me to get one for the longest time. Maybe we will surprise them! This sounds like a great cat food!

  9. Cats have always cracked me up. They are so independent and yet they want their human somewhere close usually. I love watching all the antics cats have.

  10. Cats are so full of snark. Our cat was an accomplished musician himself. I mean at least we think he was, I mean if you left the piano open he would pounce up there and walk across the ivories.

  11. Seems like cats are similar to men: the way to their hearts is through the stomach haha!

  12. I love the names you chose for your cats! My daughter and I are allergic to cats, otherwise I'd have a couple. I love their strange disposition.

  13. I make her dog treats with sweet potato or peanut butter, chia or flax seeds and carrots.

  14. I just visited a friend in California and met her two cats for the first time. One cat was so un-catlike! He couldn't get enough cuddles. Their other cat normally hides from strangers (and anyone who isn't a permanent resident at their house). She actually came to me to get her ears and belly rubbed. They were amazed. I love cat personalities.

  15. Ruby's face haha. My cat loves to play and loves morning cuddles but dont you dare brush her. She will slap you and run away. Hates it!!

  16. Wow, 'Earn Respect' is huge! Cats really need a lot of pampering! Your advice is really great!! :)

  17. I laughed so hard from the start of this post. Cats like relaxing and not loud environments. These are the perfect tips but you're right, they will still snub you XD

  18. This is exactly why I love cats! They're not here to please you...they do their own thing and you have to learn to get along with it...lol.

  19. Awww! That last snuggle photo is amazing.
I guess I am a dog and cat person. Although I tend to prefer cats that are like dogs, and dogs that are like cats. So I make no sense.
I definitely don't overdo it with Juniper, and she certainly likes me the best! Don't tell anyone else.

  22. Thinking About Buying? Know Your Credit Score

Knowing your credit score or getting a recent copy of your credit report is one of the first steps that you can take toward knowing how ready you are to start the home buying process.

Make sure all the information listed on your report is accurate and work to correct any mistakes. The higher your credit score, the more likely you will be to receive a better interest rate for your mortgage, which will translate into more ‘home for your money.'

Many potential buyers believe that they need a 750 FICO® Score or higher to be able to purchase a home. The truth is that according to Ellie Mae’s Origination Report, over 53% of loans were approved with a FICO® score under 750 last month!

Here are some tips for improving your credit score:
Make payments, including rent, credit cards, and car loans, on time.
Keep your spending to no more than 30% of your limit on credit cards.
Pay down high-balance credit cards to lower balances, and consider balance transfers to free up credit.
Check for errors on your credit report and work toward fixing them.
Shop for mortgage rates within a 30-day period — too many spread-out inquiries can lower your score.
Work with a credit counselor or a lender to improve your score.
Once you know your score, your next step will be finding a lender and getting pre-approved for a mortgage. Doing this will ensure that you know your budget before you start looking for your dream home.

  40. Yes, cats can be fickle, and finicky, which is one reason I am a total dog person! (Though I have had a couple of cats that were awesome.)

I show my dog love in many ways but I think he would say the best way I show him love is that I take him for walks in the neighborhood every day, actually several times a day. We're kinda like the mail... we walk regardless of the weather!
