Back To School Outfits For Tweens From Kohl's, Justice, Target, and More!

Apparently some jeans are all wrong.

I discovered this while going back to school shopping with my tween daughter. I had brought a "wrong" pair into the dressing room and I guess because they weren't high waisted, it's what made them wrong.

Also, she said I kept bringing her the non-ripped jeans--or, excuse me, non-DISTRESSED jeans, and that was offensive too.

"Why do you want to look like you've gone to battle with Scar?" I asked her.

"Because," was her response, and that was as far as it went.

So.

We managed to find some outfits with minimal tears (from me, not her) and then she wanted to try some on to see what she should wear on the first day.

First up is a dress she found at Kohl's.

Now, this one might not be allowed at her school because you see SHOULDERS (Heaven Forbid), but it's the proper length.

She loves Stranger Things, so she picked out this shirt from Etsy. Alexei is one of her favorite characters:

She likes this shirt too, but the word ass would probably be frowned upon at school. But she can use the Scoops Ahoy lunchbox.

This outfit is from Justice:

Justice sent Natalie a fabulous backpack and lunchbox set. We loved the lunch box container. You can get one and it fits all Justice lunchboxes.

These two outfits are from Kohl's and the shoes are from Famous Footwear. Yup, those are the jeans that look like she's gone to battle with an irate cat.

Shirt change!

Finally, here's a shirt from Target, and high-waisted jeans from Walmart. Fila shoes from Famous Footwear. This is the outfit that she's decided to wear on the first day.

Her shirt has a good message for people in Middle School. It says Do It For You. Not Them. Stay True. Be Real. Be Real. Be Real.

School starts on Monday, and while I am not looking forward to early mornings and homework, I am ready. The kids say they are sort of ready.

Also, I asked my son what he was going to wear on the first day and he went, "I don't know. Clothes," so it's safe to say that most boys don't really put as much thought as girls.

  2. My 12 year old son takes a long time shopping for clothes. Then he changes his mind once he sees what his friends are wearing. He decided that he no longer wants to wear joggers

  3. It was so much easier when school's required uniforms, right? :) I like the yellow top outfit, she looks like a little lady in it.

  4. It looks like she has got her own style. I love when kids have their own style and not afraid to use it. I really love everything that she picked out.

  5. All super cute. My favorite is the yellow dress and the justice outfit. My poor kids - we pull out a bin of clothes for whomever is older than them and that is their 'new' wardrobe. Curly did get a new jean mini skirt this summer that is her new favorite. She does not complain though because her older sister's stuff is still super cute.

  6. I love the dress that she picked out. We went back to school shopping for my youngest because he had a major growth spurt over the summer. I picked up t-shirts over the summer that walmart marked down for $3 (#momwin). Then I let him pick out new jeans from Walmart and we made our way over to the Children's place. He got two more pairs of jeans, a tie, button up shirt, two pairs of shorts that were $1 each (#momwin) and a Halloween shirt. He wore the button up, tie, and nice jeans to school. My older son could use some new clothes but this mom has to space it out. I picked him out a spirit shirt yesterday while we were in Walmart since we switched schools. I'm cheap and I tend to go to Just Between Friends, shop clearances whenever possible, or find good sales. Thankfully, everything worked out and I'll get the kids more clothes around Christmas.

  24. Great list of products to check out at these stores for back to school season shopping. We've used Kohl's for special events and holidays, but never for back to school essentials. I'll look into their khaki's.
