Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Being Shouted At For The Walking Dead Spoilers

I've ranted about this before. I'm doing it again.

So The Walking Dead had a big moment last Sunday. People wanted to talk about it on social media.

And then they got shouted at for doing it.

If I don't want something spoiled, I stay off social media. But others do not and then have a tantrum when something is spoiled. Now, do I post exactly what happened? Nope. But I will post vague things like, "Wow!" or, "Let's talk about the episode!"

Then I'll get a person who is like, "SHHH! Don't spoil it!"

I'm like:

Last I checked, I was on MY Facebook page. I'll talk about what I want, thank you.

On Twitter, I was vague, but I still had someone be like, "I HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET!"

I went, "STAY OFF TWITTER!"

I guess AMC The Walking Dead people spoiled it by saying exactly what happened. It infuriated the masses. Maybe they shouldn't have done that. But again, I know to stay offline if I don't want something spoiled.

But honestly, I like when things are spoiled, because my nerves are twisted and insane, so when major things happen, I feel like my skin is going to fall off. This is why I was grateful that I knew the Red Wedding was going to happen on Game of Thrones. Had I watched that without knowing, I'd have curled up on the floor in tears. Since I knew, I excused myself from the room and waited in the kitchen until it was over.

Same with Homeland. I knew he would be hanged. I covered my eyes. If I had watched THAT live, I'd have screamed, "WHAT THE F*CK?" and startled the cat.

I still remember freaking out with Charlie died on Lost. I was in England when I watched it, so I can't recall if I knew it was happening or not. I don't think I did, because I remember being greatly insulted that they killed off my eye candy.

You might be wondering if I was upset over what happened on The Walking Dead since I didn't know what was coming. I wasn't bummed. She wasn't my favorite. I did jump though. Tom shouted, "DAMMMMMMMNNNN!" This time he scared the cat.

So again, I will never blurt out what happened on social media, but I DO want to discuss thoughts. If someone accidentally blurts it out, don't shout at me.

  1. People think I'm crazy because I will always read the end of the book (I did this with the last HP to see if Harry lived because NO ONE KNEW!) or if I'm binge watching a show I'll read up on spoilers online to know how it ends...I do it ALL the time. I just recently binged How I Met Your Mother and already knew the ending. I think when I binged LOST (still though they had 2 season left by the time I was finished) I knew that Charlie died so I was able to prepare myself for it...even if I didn't like it.
I'm like you...I like to be prepared....

  2. It drives me crazy. I don't watch the walking dead, but with shows I like I just avoid social media. I am not usually bummed by spoilers though. Back when I would watch Days of Our Lives I would read a weekly spoiler page. I think that's just the "doesn't like surprises" part of me.

  3. I found out about Homeland in EW magazine and then gave up watching it because of that. I always post warnings if I am going to share a spoiler. I even did that with my Leaving Time review. I gave readers an out before they got to that part. I found out some Jane the Virgin spoilers before I watched the episode but I love that show so much that I don't even care. :)

  4. Yea, people, stay off the internet! Like before the internet, I didn't listen to the radio the day after an American Idol episode because I didn't want to know who got voted off. People can't have it all!

  5. yeah I try to avoid social media and I won't "like" a show's facebook page unless I am up to date otherwise my news feed will just be full of spoilers. I was sad at what happened on the walking. It just seemed so unnecessary. They could have just walked away at that stage...

  6. I'm always behind on shows so I just skim past anything that might give it away - I figure it is my fault for being behind and those who have watched it should be able to talk about it all they want!!!

  7. A friend of mine posted about it and someone said, "Thanks a lot! Unfriended!". Seriously!?

  8. If I haven't watched something or if I'm behind on the episode (from pausing or whatever), I stay away from social media. That's common sense, dammit. Stupid people make me angry.

  9. I think there's a big difference between straight up saying what happened, and just posting a reaction. I don't mind when people post their reactions to what happened, like the "really?!?!" or thing things like that. It makes me more excited to watch! But if I'm way behind on things, I try to avoid everything about it until I watch it. I'm 2 eps behind on Survivor right now and I follow them on both fb and twitter. I just scroll past the posts!

  10. Finally back from vacation at WDW and getting caught up on my favorite blogs. My younger son and hubby love Walking Dead, and younger son was mad that AMC released spoilers. I said the same thing - stay off social media! But that's like asking him to remove an arm, so I guess too bad for him :)!

  11. My husband hates spoilers. I, on the other hand, LOVE them. I always read the last page of a book first, read the synopsis of a movie before I watch it, look up voting results on 'reality' shows, etc. I hate being in suspense.

That said, I have no sympathy for those who get all up in arms over social media spoilers. They need to take responsibility for their own actions (spoiling it for themselves, really); in other words, man up and stop whining. :)

Regarding TWD, I knew from the beginning that it would be her. Once Maggie got excited when they told her they found Beth, I knew it would be her. My husband hates than I can usually predict what will happen, so he won't let me talk to him during the episodes.

  12. I unliked all my TV shows' Facebook pages because I didn't want to see spoilers. It just makes sense to me!

  13. Exactly! I watch almost all my shows way after they come on live. Sometimes I do remember what someone said on social media about it. Oh well. Half the time I am googling what is going to happen next anyway. If someone watched it live or on DVR and does not want to know anything, they need to stay off social media until they watch it.

  14. I personally LOVE spoilers. I will search for them. At the time time, I get it though: if you don't want to know then don't get online!!!! It's not like being online is necessary for your survival. Also: don't be a baby, assholes.

  15. I almost never watch something live so I hope people don't spoil it, but teasers I don't mind. Clearly say Did you see so and so got killed is a bummer. I saw the results on DWTS and I never ended up watching the final, why bother. That's just me though. Walking Dead I would still watch it though, because it's awesome!

  16. Agreed, stay off social media and just watch the stinking episode so that you can start talking about it too!

  17. I totally agree. Whenever there is something that I don't want to know about before I see it I stay off the internet. Off of everything. Good post!

  18. I don't mind spoilers either. Like I'll read a season's synopsis before I even watch the show just to know what's up.

  19. What about the people that do not live in the US? We would have to stay away of social media for months... in the UK some shows arrive months after the US premiere. I follow you on Twitter and I appreciate that your comments are not spoilers.

  20. I actually like spoilers because I get too sensitive for so many things..
And I like seeing my son's namesake on this post. Hubba hubba, Desmond!

  21. It depends on the show whether I want spoilers or not.. I don't want to know what happens with my favorite shows like The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy.
I agree with you... stay of Social Media if you don't want spoilers.. I am careful to skim over posts about the shows if I am on SM.

  22. everyone with half a brain should know to stay off social media until AFTER their favourite show. Although yes, AMC did blunder on their Facebook page. Thankfully I didn't see it - because I am wicked smart and was off social media. But I like the moment IN the moment: that punch in the gut feeling. Which YES - OMG Charlie!!! Beth wasn't my favourite either, but they didn't really give her a fitting exit either. It was all kind of sudden and didn't seem to fit her character growth at all. Kirkman is very problematic in that regard concerning his female characters.
