Things That Annoy Me Thursday: That Aunt Who Sued Her Nephew

Have you all heard about that Aunt who SUED her nephew for $127,000?

No?

The article is here.

If you are in no mood to read, I'll sum it up for you: lady showed up at her nephew's birthday when he was turning 8. He was excited! My aunt is here, yay! He gave her a rather crazy hug. I know those kinds of hugs. Sometimes my daughter likes to fling herself right on me.

Well. This lady, named Jennifer, broke her wrist because of the hug. I mean, yes, that stinks. But children can behave like wild creatures.

Jennifer whines that she lives in Manhattan. It's crowded there. The broken wrist made things difficult. Also, and this is where it gets horribly ridiculous, she was at a party and claims "it was difficult to hold my hors d'oeuvre plate."

She says she's really suing because her insurance wouldn't pay for the medical bills. But. Why go after the tiny nephew?! PLUS...this story get WORSE if you can believe it. The boy's mother died. So he had to deal with that AND deal with the fact that a family member was suing him. Poor kid.

Naturally, Jennifer is getting zip. The court probably was like, "Seriously?" and awarded her nothing.

And now Jennifer is dubbed the "worst aunt ever" and most likely doesn't have many friends left.

Here's some advice: don't sue a child.

  4. When I first heard about this, I had to check to make sure I wasn't reading The Onion. Who cares if she can't hold her effing hors d'oevures plate?!? If anyone did that to my kids, I'd make sure their life was miserable forever.

  8. Seriously this is why I can't even with some people! Please need to get over suing people for everything. Life happens deal with it.

  9. I saw her on the Today show claiming that suing the nephew was the only way to make the homeowner's insurance pay up. Her nephew was with her and says he still loves her. I still think it was a bad way to go about things. And I'll go ahead and assume that if her biggest complaint is about holding her hors d'oeurves plate, then she probably has private insurance that handled it anyway!

  15. I just find this case so odd. She claims it was for the insurance company, but I don't believe her. Poor little guy!

  16. That woman is such a nutcase. I am another one of her hecklers. What kind of person, let alone a family member, does something like that to a child. She deserves more than a hurt wrist, if you ask me. And her insurance company WOULD be the "culprit" behind an idea as asinine as suing a kid. Really, who takes financial advice from a health insurance company?? Stupid all around. Thankful for you and your hilarious memes because they actually got me to laugh about this story.

  17. Homeowner's insurance? I think it's a medical claim, period. And her medical insurance must suck if it won't cover part of the expenses for a broken wrist due to an accident. Also, no way it would cost $127,000. She sucks. Period.
