About two years ago we decided to look for a home to purchase. Before that, we had always lived on a military base and didn't have to worry about it. But we were comfortable with our finances and we're hoping the military allows my husband to retire in Texas, so we thought it was time for a home.
We looked at many houses, and finally we found the one we wanted in a certain neighborhood. We decided on it for many reasons.
1. The house was in a good school district. This is important to us. Obviously we want our kids in schools with great ratings. My son has autism so I'm always looking for a school who can give him the care he needs. It's so easy to to look at school ratings when searching for a home.
2. My house is pretty awesome. I love how the houses are different in the neighborhood. When we lived on base, they all looked the same, which could get rather boring. Plus, we could afford it! It reminded me of these homes for sale in Ohio, where we're actually going to be this summer. My husband's family lives there. This home in Dayton is beautiful and a fair price.
3. There's lots of kids in the neighborhood and it's safe. My daughter loves to be outside, so I'm glad there are people for her to play with.
4. The neighbors mostly look out for each other. I mean, sometimes you get petty arguments but for the most part, if someone needs help, people band together.
5. There's a pool! This is one of my daughter's favorite spots in the summer.
Why did you pick the neighborhood you live in?
It looks like you picked a pretty awesome neighborhood to live in!
ReplyDeleteYour live a very good neighborhood. My family moved in the neighborhood we live in now because of the same reasons in your post. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI so need a home with pool // currently living with my parents lol thinking of moving soon your neighbourhood looks soo peaceful
ReplyDeleteWow. It sounds like you had a pretty neighborhood. Having a pool near home will be very nice and cool idea.
ReplyDeleteI always look for neighborhoods that seem friendly and the lawns are all well maintained. I have a thing about maintaining the landscaping. If I had kids at home, living in a neighborhood with great schools would be my number 1 priority.
ReplyDeleteGood decision in picking thay neighborhood. While my neigborhood dont’t have that amazing reputation, it’s close to everything and the pay is reasonable but I am still renting. If I decide to buy one in the future, I will reconsider a lot.
ReplyDeleteI always liked how close it was to my job but also the overall location and they always say you can't change location. plus my neighbors are like family now!
ReplyDeleteWe live out in the country on a dead end road. All the neighbors know and help each other. Good schools and friends when the kids were home. Plenty of land.
ReplyDeleteWe did the same. We picked this neighborhood to build a house in after living here for a year. Our plans had been to move to the city, but we fell in love with the neighborhood.
ReplyDeletewhat a convenient location especially for the kids! i moved a lot and for me easy access to grocery and the gym is a priority :-)
ReplyDeleteWe picked our neighborhood because of the school and the area was affordable. Much has changed over the last 11 years but I still love my home and my neighborhood, even though it seems we about to grow out of it at times but I just don't see myself living anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteWow that's a big pool! We have neighbors, I swear, but we mostly picked our house because it's a way to live in the woods but also in a city. So we feel remote and in a log cabin, but we're only minutes from a lot of action. And I like the moose around here!
ReplyDelete*but a pool would be nice*
I would love to live in a neighborhood with a pool. I really like that all of your neighbors watch out for each other.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a lovely place to live. We love our area because it's safe, we have great schools and we're close to the beach and the city.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great place to live. We are in the home my parents bought when we moved to Florida when I was a teenager. We bought it from them after my husband and I got married, when they moved back to Alabama. We didn't really pick it. We only bought it because the housing market in our area is ridiculous! My parents basically sold us this house for what the pay off for them was, which was a steal!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have an awesome neighbourhood to live in. I rent so we didn't get a huge choice but we did choose the village and we got amazing neighbours.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you found an amazing community. I sought out my community as well.
ReplyDeleteYou have the best of both worlds. Good neighbours and great schools close by. Its a great feeling when you live in a an area with people who are like minded and willing to help out. The house is secondary for me, as long as its not falling apart.
ReplyDeleteI love that it's safe fro the kids to play outside. It's really nice to be in a neighborhood like that. These are all great reasons you picked your home! Love it.
ReplyDeleteThose are great reasons! I picked my neighborhood because it is located in the country but is not TOO far away from the highway to get to major shopping areas.
ReplyDeleteWe picked our neighborhood for many of the same reasons. It's friendly, safe and filled with families. Your reasons make perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteI would have picked your neighborhood as well if I were in your place. I love that the kids are safe to play outside and that the school district is very good. Sounds like you picked the right place for your family!
ReplyDeleteLooking at the neighborhood is so important when choosing a home. School district and neighbors can make a home buying decision for sure.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a good neighborhood to live in. I would love to settle in this kind of neighborhood one day.
ReplyDeleteNeighborhood is a best time in a life. Every one Enjoy this time many. That is a history for any one life. Every person missing this time in while life. I miss my time. Your time and your history was great.
ReplyDeleteI love your daughter's photo in the pool! I've never really moved houses yet so I've lived in the same neighborhood ever since I was born. Haha It's nice to see people share stories like this.
ReplyDeleteIt's so great that you found such a great neighborhood. We really love ours as well!
ReplyDeleteI don't think people realize how important the school district is when they move into a home with very young kids. It's so important or you are stuck. We had a huge mishap to land in our house, but thankfully the school district is good. Basically my husband's ex-wife never took his name off the mortgage, almost got thrown in jail for not doing it, and finally gave up the house to the bank. Since his name was on it, we had to scramble in 3 weeks time and pay all her back mortgage (thank you tax refund), break our lease, and move there. We've been there ever since. It's safe, family friendly, and a nice house, so we kinda lucked out.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have found a great neighborhood for your family. These are important things to consider. I like ours because it is relatively near to places like market and school.
ReplyDeleteThe house we found was such a good price. The area is so quiet too.
ReplyDeletelooks like you picked a great neighborhood! I understand the importance of finding a neighborhood you are comfortable in. I have two little boys and I would not feel safe letting them play outside if it was a questionable neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteAll of these reasons are great reasons to move to a neighborhood. Especially with a family the school district is important.
ReplyDeleteThe neighborhood we live in now is close to perfect. We are walking distance to a hospital, drugstore, supermarket, and the church. A 5 minute drive and we are in the commercial district/shopping center. My children did not have to stay in a dorm to attend university because travel time from home to campus is only 30 minutes! If we only had a country club with a pool, tennis and basketball court, then that would be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYour reasons for buying when and where you did all sound good to me! I bought my house when and where because I liked the area and I could get more house for m my money. LOL
ReplyDeleteParents know that the first thing to do when looking at a neighborhood is to research the school system. Even if you're single, living in an area with a much sought-after school system raises your property value. If you have kids, you'll also want to live close to parks and community centers.
ReplyDeleteIf we were moving again, I'd pick a place with lots of kids. In my neighborhood there are not many kids so the place kinds of feels boring. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSo many great reasons! We are going to be buying a house within the next year and I'm trying to narrow down what's important to me.
ReplyDeleteWell I guess everything's alright now. I love that your neighbors mostly look out for each other. Definitely a great way to learn something about your neighbours.
ReplyDeleteThat's great that you chose to purchase a home in an area you felt safe in. We settled where we live today because of the great school district as well, that and we could build our own home for the price of buying one in this town.
ReplyDeleteFirstly is security, then neighborhood and how close it is to get our needs. All these things I always consider whenever we find new house.
ReplyDeletePurchasing our own home is indeed an achievement as it is a long-term investment as well. Indeed the environment and overall security should be considered.
ReplyDeleteWe moved to our area because it was affordable, had good schools and was in cycling distance of work.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
