5 Reasons Why You Should Adopt German Shepherds

The post is sponsored by Nakturnal. My opinions are my own.

My husband Tom is a former K9 handler in the military, so he's been around German Shepherds a lot.

He's always loved them and hopes to get one for us one day. At the moment I say no, but it could change down the line.

Get Your Pet is a wonderful site that allows you connect with others who want to adopt. Or, if for some reason you need to rehome a pet, you can post about it there. Then you'll know your pet is going to a good home or you'll know you are getting a wonderful furry friend for your family. Get Your Pet would be an ideal place to adopt a German Shepherd.

If you're hoping for a German Shepherd, here are reasons why you should get one, according to my husband, who has been around them for many years.

1. They are loyal. Tom would train with his dog for many hours, and he would be rewarded for it.

2. They will protect you. For certain, if you're in trouble, these dogs are known to help keep you safe. There have been many stories about German Shepherds protecting their families during break ins.

3. There are many pet friendly areas you can bring a German Shepherd. For example, we live near Houston, and they are extremely pet friendly. There are also many parks and certain stores allow pets so they can be out and about with you. This way you don't have to worry about them messing up your home when you're away.

4. Adopting an animal means you are saving them from a potentially scary situation. I shared a blog post on why you should adopt pets a while back. We adopted both our cats! All pets deserve a loving home.

5. They truly are sweet. My husband talks about how his dog would be excited to see him. Sometimes he would be having a tough day at work but the dog would help cheer him up.

When the kids move out, the house might be too quiet so I might give in on a German Shepherd. I've done some research on the different characteristics, and it seems like it would be the breed for us.

Have you ever adopted a pet before?

Letting your dog in the back yard doesn't count, and it makes me sad that people get a pet and don't take proper care of it.
