5 Ways To Make In Person Learning Successful

My daughter Natalie returns to school October 5th. Before that she's been doing virtual learning. And let me tell you, virtual learning is not for her. It is for some kids but Natalie? Well.

I'd find her dancing around in her rat costume when she was supposed to be doing work.

She'd be browsing Shein or PacSun when I thought she was doing schoolwork:

So yes, I opted for her to go back to school when it was allowed. Am I nervous? Yes. But I have ways to make returning back to school safer.

1. Load up on sanitizer. Schools should have some, but in case they run out, always have a back up.

2. Bring wipes. We managed to find some travel ones that she can slip into her backpack. Also, suggest that the hand washing should be done more frequently.

3. Have plenty of masks. You should toss or wash masks daily to avoid germs.

4. Remind your child that things will be different. They can't hug their friends. Lunchtime won't be what they remember.

5. Thank teachers. They not only have to do virtual learning, but in person as well. I can only imagine how exhausting it is. Remind your child to give teachers a break. Make sure work is turned in and LISTEN so the same questions aren't asked over and over. And offer to send teachers cleaning supplies. Sometimes schools can't afford to provide it and teachers certainly shouldn't have to waste their paycheck on these items.

This school year will be different, with many changes. But I know it's the right choice for my daughter. I wish all the kids returning to school luck and safety.

  13. I am glad that your daughter is back to school. my son is still stuck at home and I think if this goes for long, it'd take a toll on his mental health. I think as long as the kids are following public health protocols, they should be fine in school.

Our great granddaughter did virtual learning here with us; here parents are both working. What a challenge and not just for students but poor teachers!

  31. This year will definitely be very different from what she is used to but it is necessary in order to beat this pandemic faster. And it will teach her some lessons for the future as well, as things that you do over and over get into habit.
