Wearing My High School Prom Dress To Her Prom

 Hi, I'm Amber, and I'm a packrat.

I still have clothes that I wore in high school.

Not all of them, mind you, but my favorites. And these favorites include dresses that I wore for Homecoming, Winter Formal, and Prom. They live in my closet because I'll be honest, I cannot fit into them anymore. I probably could if I gave up carbs, but I could never.

But guess who does fit into them?

My daughter.

And guess who decided to wear the same dress I wore to my senior prom for their senior prom?

If you guessed my daughter, you'd be correct.

Yup. That's me as a senior. I had scary bangs. If I could go back and talk to myself I'd say, girl, get rid of those bangs. Damn. (I no longer have bangs.)

Luckily, my daughter is better with makeup, with hair, all of it. I swear if there were TikTok tutorials in my day I'd be better. Maybe. Even with tutorials now, I am still pathetic with mascara. I once poked myself in the eye. And that was last week.

She looks much better than I ever did.

I loved how she did her makeup. She added those eye crystal thingies. Baby breath in her hair and butterfly clips. Necklace used to belong to Nana Jo, who loved butterflies. Nana Jo lived into her 90s. We miss her. But it was like Nana Jo was with us.

I'm glad I was able to keep the dress for her. And who knows? Maybe her daughter will one day wear it.

Oh, and she did go with her boyfriend, who made his suit unique:

Natalie said prom was a wonderful evening. There was a dessert buffet with excellent cheesecake, apparently. I know I'd be thrilled with a dessert buffet.

She said they danced and danced and laughed with friends.

She said she cannot believe she only has 17 days left of school. And then she graduates. Then it's all over.
