We love history, so popping into The Gunter was a real treat. It's been around since the early 1900s, and we found relics of the past in the lobby, like a phone switchboard. It's seriously a beautiful spot, so if you come to the San Antonio area, this is a wonderful option for a hotel.
There are photo spots everywhere in the building.
We were there to eat since we were seeing a show at the Majestic Theatre, which we have been to many times. It's located right across the street, so it's a convenient spot to dine.
There is a special prix fix menu and it truly is a wonderful deal.
I got the short ribs, and yum, they were falling apart. Scrumptious! I'd order these again.
After we ate, we strolled across the street to the Majestic for our show, & Juliet. It's a jukebox musical that imagines what life would have been like had Juliet not died at the end of Romeo & Juliet.
And as I mentioned, the Majestic Theatre is stunning inside. Built in 1929, we can feel the history oozing from the decor.
We have been popping in here for years and we never tire of taking in the ambiance.
And we were thrilled to see & Juliet, because we're fans of all the pop songs. Like Britney Spears? You'll hear her music! Backstreet Boys? Yup! It's a beautiful musical about hope, acceptance, and loving yourself.
We would 100% see the show again. It's that entertaining. At one point you are allowed to sing and dance along. You can watch & Juliet on Broadway, and there is also a National Tour, so check and see if they are coming to your area. Tickets are affordable, which is another bonus!
Are you a fan of musicals?

ReplyDeleteI was not much into musicals until my son got involved in theatre the last few years, then I even co-directed the middle school musical two months ago. Now we are definitely musical people. I think we would all enjoy & Juliet, I've never heard of it, but I'll have to see if it's going to be in Houston as well.

Gunter sounds like a wonderful place for a pre theater meal. The short rib sounds wonderful and cooked to perfection!!! Not seen and Juliet, that's a show that I would love to see with my daughters.
ReplyDeleteI love experiences like this where the meal and the entertainment go hand in hand! The Gunter's rich history makes it so much more than just a place to eat, and & Juliet sounds like the perfect way to end the evening. I can definitely see why you'd want to watch it again!

I’m a huge fan of Britney Spears, and I like the Backstreet Boys too, so it’ll be fun to hear their music in the show! One of my siblings got to see The Lion King on Broadway, and I was so jealous! She had a lot of fun though, so I was happy for her! lol. I’ve seen Hamilton, but not live. I saw it on Disney+. I want to see a musical live one day! I’m sure it will happen! Your daughter looks very beautiful! She definitely has style!

ReplyDeleteThat burger looked huge, and the loaded fries would probably be the first thing I'd order too. It sounds like a really nice way to spend an evening, especially finishing it off with & Juliet. I hope the show was every bit as good as the meal.
