I was like, "What's a double ten frame?"

Natalie shrugged. "I don't know what's going on."

"Well, me either! You're learning this. What IS this?" I grabbed my phone to Google what a double ten frame was.

If you're interested, it's this:

It makes no sense to me. At all.

Yes, it's common core nonsense. I do not like common core. If you like common core, feel free to take it. Forever.

Math already confuses me. But add Common Core nonsense and I'm like:

It's like a whole other language. Why complicate math further?

It's why I didn't mind when Natalie wrote this as a response:

What's the problem with using fingers? I don't see one.

I want this nonsense to go away! Keep it for the kids who like it, but for the kids who are like WTF, let them do it the "old" way.

Thanks.

I don't recall ever learning that stuff. What in the world?

ReplyDeleteYES! I was just complaining yesterday about how it took a math professor five minutes to explain how to solve a solution when it took me less than 5 seconds to solve it in my head. The way they want you to go about solving problems is so ridiculous! Why do it some long winded confusing way when there is a much simpler and quicker way?

ReplyDeleteMath in general confuses me. The worst!

ReplyDeleteCommon Core math is totally insane.

ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you. I did good old fashioned math and I lived to tell the tale. :)

ReplyDeleteI've never heard of that 10 thing. I tutor a lot of high school kids in Algebra-Calculus and Common Core has made it so much more difficult for them and for me!!!

ReplyDeleteCommon core is by far the dumbest thing anyone has ever come up with!!!!!

ReplyDeleteErica is in second grade, too, and I've never seen anything as confusing as that. I'm just waiting for it to come home. Fortunately, her teacher has told us that even though she has to teach some of these methods, if we want to reach her "old school" math at home, that's fine. They get the same answer.

ReplyDeleteWhat in the world is common core? Oh dear. Scarlet is only two years behind Natalie in school. We have to do this????

ReplyDeleteNo. I simply won't.

See, my husband actually understands this crap. I don't! I have NO IDEA how to solve a problem like that. I get the question of how the kid can use 6+4 to know the answer, but why can't we just teach them that 6+6=12 without major gymnastics?! Also, have you seen the articles of books required when they get older? We're going to raise a generation of kids who hate to read because it's just not fun. Annoying!

ReplyDeleteSome of the common core stuff makes sense, and it's actually the way I think of math even without being taught with that curriculum, but some of it is just ridiculous.

ReplyDeleteso i've never heard of "common core" when it comes to math. i'm going to use an abacus instead. kidding! :D

ReplyDeleteTo this day I stillll use my fingers. I don't understand what they're trying to do here... make math even more hateful than it already is?!

ReplyDeleteI don't understand it. I didn't take to math as it is, figuring that crap out would take me all day...and many google searches. lol
