Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Overpriced Items At Theme Parks

So Natalie was like, "I want the light up R2D2!" while we were at Disney World.

She had $20 in birthday money so I said, sure, if that's what she wanted.

I assumed the thing would be like $9.95, because it looked like it should be under ten bucks. I go up to pay and the guy is like, "That'll be $15."

I wanted to say, "Are you on CRACK?" I wanted to say that a lot at Disney World when I was given the total.

I get that ALL theme parks price gouge, but I hate it. I hate how movie theaters do this too. It bothers me immensely to fork over $5 for a large soda when I get the same size, the same flavor, for .99 cents at the gas station.

Disney World may hike up their prices, but it's still worth it to go. You do get a lot of memories.

But bring you own water. You can bring water bottles into the park. When you finish it, don't throw it out. Refill them at water fountains. Otherwise you'll be paying $4 for a bottle of water and this makes me stabby. You can also ask for a cup of water and ice at any food place.

Ahh, Disney. You might hike up the prices, but I can't quit you.

  1. The water thing kills me. Do not charge $4 for a bottle of water. That is lunacy.

  3. The prices are ridiculous! Worse than at a baseball game. You're already forking over millions of dollars just to get into the park. You'd think they could make other items reasonably priced as a result.
I went to this laser tag place last week and they had this "build a stuffed animal" thing. the small one was $12.95 but there was nothing more to it than the person working there stuffing the bear and that's it. It wasn't like build-a-bear. My daughter thankfully loves her bear so that justifies the cost. Crazy though!

  4. Unfortunately, any place that holds you captive (like you pay to get in and don't leave premises until you're done done) jacks up the prices on EVERYTHING. It's so annoying. I can't believe that was $15. I guess that's all part of the 'experience' ... lol

  5. We went with our daughter a few years ago and learned the water bottle trick very quickly so when we go next month, we'll each have our own plus the little single Crystal Light packets to make the water fountain water more palatable. I'm not 100% sure what she's going to want this time around but I know we'll be forking over a fortune to pay for it.

  6. I've heard the prices are insane! That's worse than Hawaii prices. I'd rather go to Hawaii tho...I'm not a kid and my husband keeps telling me I never was one lol

  8. I feel the same way all around. I can't quit it!
I did the movies last week and we were late so we just bought snacks there. Ugh. $14 later! It would have been $5 if I had just gone to the drugstore first like I intended.

  9. It's nice that you can bring in your own water. One of the big pools here won't let you bring in coolers and it always pisses me off because who can be at the pool all afternoon without a drink???

  10. I've never been but plan to make a family trip some day. I've been told about the ridiculous prices ...some say that it ruins the experience bc basically breaks you, others have advised me that when I do go, just plan on spending A LOT of money so you don't let the prices get you down.

  11. You can actually bring in your own food to the Disney Parks as well! I've been going every year for as long as I can remember (we have been blessed to live near-ish Disneyland in California and now Disney World), I have never had a problem bringing in a bag full of waters, sandwiches, snacks, etc. We actually just got a backpack that doubles as a cooler strictly for our Disney trips! -- fun fact for next time :)

  12. I love Disney, but hate the prices. Since we live within driving distance, we take all of our own food and drinks. We may lug around water jugs and soft sided coolers, but we aren't paying $4 for water.

  13. SUPPOSEDLY at most amusement parks, you can walk up to any concessions stand and ask for a cup of water. They give it to you because they don't want dehydration. It works at Dollywood and Six Flags Atlanta. I don't know about Disney--those are the only two parks I know for sure it works at. On especially hot days, some theme parks will set up stands to hand out cups of water. My husband was at Dollywood once when three kids fainted while standing in line. They went down one after another! They were dehydrated...kids have a bad habit of not stopping to drink water when they're excited.

  14. We always bring our own food and water with us to Disney. I mean, they're already charging a small fortune to get in, can't the food be reasonably priced?

  15. Ive never been to Disney but everyone who has been has told me the very same thing about the price. Its a bit ridiculous!

  16. I love that they let you bring water into Disney - not all park allow it.

  17. That annoys me too! I hate when things are price gouged... I always carry a water bottle on me wherever I am for that reason.
