I love history.
San Antonio is full of history. I mean, yes, there's the Alamo, but there are also hotels that have been around since the 1800s.
One of those hotels is The Menger Hotel.
Isn't it beautiful?
Natalie had to do a project on a historic spot in San Antonio, so she picked The Menger Hotel. The Alamo is right around the corner, and the River Walk is steps away, so it's such a convenient spot for visitors who want to see all those popular San Antonio attractions.
Oh, and yes, it is haunted. Google The Menger Hotel ghosts and all sorts of stories pop up. From Sallie White, who was a maid, to our former president Teddy Roosevelt, it's a fabulous location for ghost enthusiasts.
Even better, the hotel is decorated for the holidays. Anyone is allowed to walk into the lobby and see the tree.
And don't forget to look up!
All the way up.
Beautiful, huh? It's like you've stepped into Victorian times. There was live piano music playing when we entered, so that added to the blissful ambiance.
Oh and yes, anyone can also visit The Menger Bar, which has gunshots from Teddy Roosevelt. Well, so they say, It was 1898 and he was recruiting men for his Rough Riders, and I guess he got too eager with his gun and bullets went into the wall. Mind you, some will say they are nails, so who knows. Still, they are marked with red tape, so they are easily spotted. You can make your own deduction. (I think it's bullet holes. I know men love their guns and can get overexcited and then, well, boom boom.)
We were given permission to walk in the halls so long as we were quiet. We were on the look out for a ghost. We (quietly) pretended we were on Ghost Adventures. Natalie was Zak, I was Aaron, and Tommy was Billy.
We loved the wallpaper. I'd so decorate my room in it.
We did not see a ghost. This time. One day we need to book a stay at the Menger. The rooms are gorgeous according to the website. Maybe an apparition will make a visit while we're there. I'll probably scream, but it would still be neat.
We also need to return for brunch. They offer it in The Colonial Room, and I hear it's a delicious. You must make reservations since it's so popular. It's on our list of things to do!
So would you stay at The Menger Hotel?
