The Wonky Week

I did not have the best week.

For starters, some kid kept standing on his play house and would stare into our house. It’s a good thing we wore pants all this week.

Natalie rudely crushed her muffin onto the floor. Why won’t she eat?

The cinnamon buns somehow exploded when I opened the can (I ate them anyway.)

Natalie had a ‘tude and still refuses to use the potty.

And the movers came to take away Tom’s stuff that he’ll be bringing to Korea. It just made everything real. He’s leaving.

But.

Next week we’ll be going on vacation to North Carolina for a week. We’re visiting Tom’s family so he can say goodbye before he goes to Korea.

I am looking forward to that.

However.

I suck at packing.

Help.

In other news, Shell asked me to write a post for her BFF Feature.

I was greatly flattered. Shell rocks!

  1. Have a fabulous vacation! It must be so bittersweet.

  2. The cinnamon rolls used to always explode when we were kids, but I've yet to have it happen as an adult. I wonder if it's something we kids did back in the day. Ask your kids if they shook them up or anything like that.

  3. You almost made me cry. Hope things get better. Enjoy your trip. That is so cool you got to post on Shells blog. Congratulations. I will go check it out.

  4. looks like the neighbor kid is a peeping tom in training.

  5. I'm SO sorry you had a crappy week and honestly, I can't even think about my husband going away for a year without crying. You're an amazing lady.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The neighbors kid is just scary! I'd hate to see him in a few years lol! Where are you going to be in NC?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Too bad you and the kids aren't going with him.

My best friend's husband got to pick one year unaccompanied or three years accompanied to South Korea. They all went for three years and it was an incredible experience.

I won't bother with Natalie going on the potty until after your husband leaves. It's gonna be a hard enough transition.

  8. Sounds like a rough week. But YAY for North Carolina!

I have to warn you... it's hot. On the plus side, there won't be any creepy kids standing on top of their playhouses... because their little plastic playhouses have been melted by the sun.

  9. Have a great week! Your daughter's 'tude cracks me up!

  10. i totally suck at packing. i always overpack and hate folding clothes.

  11. For a second I thought that packing picture was looking into the trunk of your car and I thought you were REALLY a bad packer. Then figured out it was a suitcase and felt better for you.

    Enjoy NC...and your husband. :-(

  12. Oh man, Natalie's face has me crying-laughing. You know she will carry that look with her for her whole life. It will be the look her husband will be scared of lol.

You should come see me while in NC!

  13. I hope you have a fant-abulous vacation!!! I'm sorry Tom's going so far away. Your bloggin buddies will be around though so feel free to vent away m'dear!

  14. Wow. He gets to take a lot of stuff. Sorry about the craptastic week. But countdown to vacay is always great. Please go to NC and eat LOTS of Bojangles chicken biscuits and sweet tea for me as I stare jealously at my old vacation pics from there. *DROOL*

  15. re: the neighbor kid

Looks to me like someone with a really good Nerf gun could get off a couple shots at the kid and duck behind their fence before being identified.

    Just sayin'....

On a happier note..I'm your newest follower! Found you over at Shell's!

  19. Read you over at Shell! When I first started reading, I somehow missed your name. I saw something about Air Force and husband moving to Korea.

I thought, "This gal should talk to Amber! They have so much in common."

I kept reading and then thought, "Wait a second... this woman has a girl named Natalie, too?? That's strange..."

It took me way too long to realize it was you.

    ReplyDelete
  20. That is pretty creep about that kid.

    ReplyDelete
  21. packing is dumb...
just buy new clothes when you get there

and neighbor kid is a creeper!

found you on shell and i look forward to reading more!

    ReplyDelete
  22. You pack like me. I try, but it never looks right.
Creepy kid. Shoot him with a water pistol next time.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I've been told that you get way more room in your luggage case if you roll up your clothes instead of folding them. Just a suggestion. As for the creepy wierdo kid, try an air soft gun! That's the advice of my husband...and it keeps the neighbors dogs off our lawn. LOL.
Sorry you're having a shitty week!

    ReplyDelete
  24. That Natalie is so gorgeous even when she frowns! I know you are feeling punk over Tom leaving, but the time passes and you will be busy. Have a wonderful time in Carolina! Nice!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Have fun on your trip! I always waayyy overpack; I can't help it! And good luck with the potty training.

My heart aches for you and your husband for having to spend that much time so far apart. :( I would be so sad to be without Daniel for even a week!

  26. I love how those are Natalee's clothes and the gymbo tags are still on them.

  34. Just read your post on Shell's site. I'm heartbroken that your husband is leaving. I have a friend of a friend who swears by the "daddy doll". Maybe this will help your little girl. At first, the idea of it seemed a little corny, but they have rave reviews from moms everywhere! check it out: http://www.thingamababy.com/baby/2005/08/toys_in_time_of.html

The mom I know says it made a huge differnece and her daughter is around the same age as yours.

  35. I follow Shell, so I read your post there! Have a great vacation. Hang in there!

  36. First - yay y'all for wearing pants - cuz you never know when creepy kid will be around.

Two - tell Natalie if she keeps giving you the "angry eyes" she's gonna end up with a huge rut in her forehead (ask me I know).

Three - don't forget I live in NC! And Hubby cooks Italian like you wouldn't believe.

Four - give Tom a hug and tell him I said thank you (and to you & the children as well). We wouldn't be where we are today without brave men/women like him & you.

    ReplyDelete
  37. BTW - just read your post at Shell's. Give yourself an extra hug or two. And remember - you've got plenty of friends (in real life and online) who are only a phone call or a click away!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh wow, thats hard ( hubby away for a year) I hope the year goes super fast for you all! And a great vacation next week!! Packing...well it all comes out again doesn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Shell does rock! Have a wonderful vacation! I used to stress over packing. Now I just figure if I forget something there's always a Wal Mart!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Shell sent me over... sorry about the hubby leaving. He is right it will be ok but it will also suck at times. That looked like great packing to me... Super nice to meet you! I'll be back!

    ReplyDelete
  41. The moving picture made me sad for you, and I will be praying for you and your family. <3

In happier news, congrats on being Shell's BFF! Can't wait to get to her/your post in my Reader! ;-)

  42. Nice to meet you. I can't wait to read more.

Good luck with the muffin squashing, peeping kid, husband moving, potty training stuff!!

  43. Be sure to pack sunscreen. This is my first summer in North Carolina and we've been having record highs.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I read your post on Shell's blog.

I am so feeling for you Amber! The time really passes though. I can imagine it will fly while having those kiddos.

Want some advice? Well, here it is anyway!

Don't spend too much money on retail therapy! K? I know you may not have the strength with the hubs gone and all.

I suggest saving and taking a vacation ALONE when he comes back! We took a road trip when Ian came back. It gave us a lot of time to catch up.

Stay busy. Use the time to do the stuff YOU love. Know that it's okay to cry! Just let it all out. You don't have to act like an Airman! Big girls cry too! Allow yourself to feel the pain if you have it.

That's all I got for what it's worth.

Read my Reunion post. It might make you feel better...

  51. Interesting neighbor kid. I am sorry you week was less than stellar. I hope it gets better!

  52. Maybe I should drive up one day? I'm odd... I love packing. I love making everything organized and neat. I know, I know, I'm a bit of a freak.

  53. I'm a new follower from SITS! First of all, your daughter is adorable with her little sour puss face, and I died laughing on your guest post about what to tell your son when he asks about his balls. Best of luck in the next few weeks. I have a hard time when my husband leaves for a week on business. Hang in there ;)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Can't wait to read your post. Thinking of you as you visit NC. You are a strong, amazing mommy!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I like these picture diary posts. Your child's face is classic.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Gosh that time is coming up quickly that Tom is leaving!

So you take a picture of the kid that's peeking in your window? Priceless!

Maybe Natalie will be all potty trained when she goes to the ocean. She won't want to wear a pull up under her bathing suit!

They say (whoever "they" are) to pack your suitcase with what you think you'll need, then take out half of it!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think there are weird neighbor kids in every neighborhood. We once had a girl whose hair was always a giant rat's nest. My FIL would ask her if she got in a fight with her comb. Next week will be better. You'll have a wonderful vacation and spend quality time with your Hubby and family. The trick I learned about packing is to roll everything up instead of folding it. Good luck!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hope you have a wonderful vacation! Exploding cinnamon rolls.. hmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Came by from Shell's and love your blog! So happy to be your newest follower

That's creepy about the neighbor kid. We had one of those once upon a time. And ya know - that's what super extreme water guns are for. Worked like a charm. :P

Hope this week goes better for you!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Natalie's face is perfect! lol Roll your clothes. It helps with wrinkles and is space saving. Have fun in NC!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Natalie with a tude is way too cute. I'd end up spoling her rotten.
Have a great time in North Carolina. And wishing you blessings while he is in Korea.
