My Mom Is Here!

My Mom is visiting!

She’s here until Tuesday.

She’s already helped me with the plants that the base planted in my yard. One of those plants turned out to be a giant weed. Um, oops. It looked like a regular plant to me. I had been proudly watering it and everything.

Then Mom found out that the base planted a rose bush on top of a thistle.

“Is that bad?” I asked and then thought to myself, “Thistle is a fun word to say.” That’s probably why I suck with plants, because I can’t focus long enough to understand how to take care of them.

(Putting a plant on top of a thistle is not a good thing, FYI. Mom managed to clip it away from the plant.)

She’ll also be a welcome help with Natalie, whose moods can go from this:

  1. Everything I learned about thistles, I learned from The Tinkerbelle Movie.

Yeah, also, I have a black thumb, so yea! for your mom being there to handle that business in Tom's absence.

Also, I know I've said this on more than one occasion, but I swear to you that Natalie and McKenna are twins somehow separated prior to conception. I'm sure it's happened. I need to look for the facts on wikipedia and I'll get back to you.

  5. How nice to have your mom there to visit with and help. I have a black thumb and wouldn't know a thistle from the hole in the ground where it's planted! My youngest daughter has mood swings like Natalie (except she's 31 years old) and I tease her about being bi-polar! Have a wonderful time!!!!!

  9. Why would the army plant a weed? I'm glad your mom can take care of those things. Have a great weekend.

  10. Hope you ladies have a fun weekend! Don't you love (or not) how bipolar toddlers are?

  11. I've always felt a weed is just a plant in the wrong place. I'm currently thinking of going plastic for all our plants it will save a lot of trouble but knowing my luck I will end up with plastic weeds....

  12. Hooray for the extra help with things like small children, gardens, and bats! Good to know that I'm not the only one with an extremely emotional three-year old. This IS a phase, right?? It WILL pass??!

  13. Mothers make everything better... most of the time, until they don't.

  14. So glad to hear that you've been watering and have done such a good job that your weed is thriving.....
    ;-)

    Have fun with your mom!

  16. Yay for Mom! Don't worry I kill plants too. :(

And that Natalie... she's so cute. I love her changes in mood. I am guessing you don't... but from the computer I like them.

  17. Yay for mom visits!

I'm lousy with plants too. I was all proud of myself because everything I planted in containers on my steps was living this year for a change. Then my husband tells me he caught my mom one morning watering them and apparently she had been all summer.

Natalie is such a cutie even if she does snag your chocolate!

  18. I want to see YOUR face after she ate your chocolate!! Dude. Good thing she's cute. It's saved her butt many a times, I'm sure.

  19. If Natalie's like that now, I'm sure you're really looking forward to the "difficult teenage years". Then, she'll be stealing your margaritas! Have fun with your Mum!

  20. It's cool to have Mom's around because, let's face it, they know stuff we don't know. My mommy lives around the corner so she's "here" several times a week correcting my mishaps and carting the grandkids around. Cherish the time!

  21. Haha, mood swings or not, she makes the best faces!

  22. lol.. they say weeds are something that grows where you don't want it..so if the rose bush is in a "bad" place it too could be considered a weed..

Gotta love moms, they know everything.. I wonder when I will

  23. I know Natalie took your chocolate and that is tragic, but she looks so darn cute with her chocolate mustache!

  24. I'm so glad your Mom is there! How fun for the kids too!

  25. My mom always wanted me to garden. I never did and still don't.....putting it in the ground is not too bad, but remembering to water it. Plus my yard gets no sun til 2 pm, so the plant has to be very tenacious to grow (like mint......)

  26. I like moms.

On the flipside, my parents have a rosebush they've tried to kill many times by either spraying industrial strength weed killer on it or simply chopping it up with a weed whacker.

    It will not DIE!

  27. Enjoy the visit with your mom!

  28. Oh no, just imagine what the teen years will be like if she does this when she's a toddler! Maybe she will grow out of it before then. Natalie reminds me of this 2 yr old in my class- she constantly tells me, "I dont YIIKKEE to color. I dont YIIKKEE to take a nap."... hehe :)

Have fun with your mom! Mom's are amazing! :)

  29. Oh my!! Can I empathize with those mood swings with six daughters!! Too cute, she would fit right in with my toe heads :)

  30. I'm sure your Mom doesn't mind all that "mood" stuff. She raised YOU, right? ;)

  31. Love the many moods of Natalie! They can turn on a dime at that age, can't they?

  34. I have some very successful weeds growing outside, right near my spindly, sad tomato plants and around the pot containing my Charlie Brown rosebush. (Basically a dead 6" stick in a pot large enough to support a tree.) So I completely get this post.

  38. Oh, Enjoy your mom! and? Natalie's faces mirror my son's...is that good or scary?!

  39. What a joy to have your mom around! and those faces of your 3 year old, oh the moods, ups and downs, it starts early!! But she is a cutie!

  40. I'm the same way with plants. My good hubby-buddy an' I agree that if we want plants to grow, we don't let 'em know I even know they're there. LOL

I do like it that you also find thistle to be a fun word. It is.

    The pics are too cute.
