I’m not the best decorator in the world.
On Natalie’s birthday I went for simple. Simple is good. I like simple, especially when my husband isn’t around to help.
This was what was waiting for Natalie when she woke up on her birthday:
See that mini 4 wheeler? I found it at Wal-Mart for TWENTY bucks on clearance.
Simple works for Natalie too because she loved everything. She opened her presents and at one point I had her cover her eyes so I could bring out the big box of Disney princesses. I suppose I could have wrapped it, but it would have taken up most of the roll. So closed eyes it was...
..she opened them and...
“Disney princesses! I love them all!” Natalie shrieked.
She’s really into princess stuff these days. And yes, I know there is even a book out there about how princesses took over this woman’s daughter, or something like that, but I think the princess obsession is sweet.
Natalie even picked out a cake based on the movie Tangled (it comes out on DVD March 29th and yes, Natalie wants it.)
There was no huge party for her birthday because the thought of a bunch of three and four year olds running around was enough to make me want to burst into tears. Maybe next year. Maybe.
We did have my friend Amanda’s family over for dinner and cake.
Natalie got to open more presents:
She was like, “A Kai-Lan doll!”
Then she blew out candles and yes, the cake was delicious. No, of course I didn’t make it. The lovely people at the commissary did.
At the end of the night Natalie informed me that being four was great, much better than three.
“Now I can wear the lipsticks!” she said.
Uh.
“No lipsticks until you’re sixteen,” I explained.
Yeah, I’m sure THAT’S going to happen...

Awww...what a sweetheart! (p.s. I also don't think that there's anything wrong with wanting to feel like a princess. Being a princess doesn't mean you have to be a damsel in distress :) )
ReplyDeleteThat looks and sounds like a wonderful birthday and doesn't every girl (even secretly) want to continue being a princess for the rest of her life?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Natalie!! It looks like a perfect day!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Natalie!
ReplyDeleteUh, there's a book about a little girl being obsessed with Disney Princesses? Seriously? WOW.
Wear the lipsticks! That is too funny.
ReplyDeleteShe is such a beauty.
looking at pictures of Natalie and princess dolls makes me want a girl SO bad!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day! And I love that now she can "wear lipsticks" haha I love princess stuff- it's fun for little girls {ok and big girls too!} :)
ReplyDeleteShe's precious! Makes me fondly remember the days when my daughter loved all things princess!
ReplyDeleteMy dad always said 21. My mom said 16.
ReplyDeleteThey caved in at 13.
Good Luck!
Now that is a birthday fit for a princess. :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute! My oldest daughter told me the other day that we need to go to disneyland soon because she is "getting too old for princesses" so enjoy it while you can... the princesses are so much preferable to the Mylie Cyrus' and Justin Beibers!
ReplyDeleteLooks like she had a fab birthday and hopefully those princess dolls don't freak you out like the Rapunzel doll!
Love the cake, super cute. And holy cow girl, you go all out. That right there was far better than my kids Christmas! Natalie is an adorable princess, of COURSE she should love all things princess. Wait til she turns five. She'll feel all kinds of entitled. haha
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Natalie!!! I'm going to say you cave on the lipstick before she is 16, LOL.
ReplyDeletePerfect gifts for a princess! I love Tommy's face looking at the dolls ....in disgust! Awesome cake looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteCherish these times! She will be 16 before you know it!
ReplyDeleteShe's a cutie for sure!!
Happy Birthday Natalie!
sweet sweet!
ReplyDeleteand that cake is seriously cool!!
absolutely nothing wrong with loving princesses and fairy tales. My daughter still has a similar reaction and she's 9. Of course it's morphing more into I'm the queen, but hey, she's pretty strong minded, lol.
ReplyDeleteThe cake was so cute! Yay bakery people and their mad skills. Simple is awesome...I'm all about simple and easy.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter went through the princesses phase too. She's about to be 11 now and it has turned into a love for all things Barbie and Littlest Pet Shop. It will run its course...as do all things :)
Soon, she'll be calling you "the Queen Mum".
ReplyDeleteLove it, and happy birthday princess! For Mooch's birthday this year we went to a local park and had a hayride and a bonfire - it was so cheap, the kids were outside (so no cleanup) and they all left exhausted. Success!
ReplyDeleteSo is it a bad thing that my 19 yr old still thinks she's a princess regardless of how often her brother tells her that her real parents lived in a trailer park. (They didn't. She's not adopted.)?
ReplyDeleteI loved Tangled! Really cute movie. Cute cake. Looks like she had a great birthday!
♥Spot
Lipsticks? You are in trouble!
ReplyDeleteI think all the princess stuff is adorable.
Eden learned about princesses this weekend. She learned not to kiss frogs because they never turn into prices and not to wait for a glass slipper. She's to buy her own sensible shoes instead. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, lipsticks..you are in trouble.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm with you. If they want to do the princess thing, and they like it...let them!
Happy birthday to your Natalie.
Yup, my boys are possessed by Star Wars...it's inevitable!
ReplyDeleteAt-home parties are the best; simple is great! I can't stand these large catered parties with 20-30 kids...then your kid comes home with a god awful load of loot which isn't healthy. I mean we moms don't spend $200 plus on a party for ourselves every birthday, why should we on our overly-privileged children? Ridiculous. So yes, to small "simple" parties! A reminder to our children, especially in today's world, with so many children who have so little, that they should be grateful for these simpler reminder, of being loved and cherished.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Princess Natalie!!
ReplyDeleteShe's gonna be a Queen soon.
Lipsticks?! I was wearing lipsticks when I was 2! Ha!
ReplyDeleteShe is such a Princess!!!
I think the Princess stage is cute too. My oldest went through it and it stuck for a couple years. My youngest mostly likes Tink and hasnt really gotten into the Princesses yet...but I know the day will come
ReplyDeleteAt least she skipped the nail polish and eye makeup...you did a great job. :)
ReplyDeleteAh, the things I miss out on not having a little girl. Just precious!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Natalie!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a girl I'd let her do the princess thing, too.
Looks like your daughter had a great day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by my blog on my SITS day!
My niece is totally into this princess thing too.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cutie! I love when kids get so excited when they open (or see) their gifts!! Great deal on that 4-Wheeler!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty cake! I don't blame her for loving princesses. I wish I was a kid again.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your beautiful princess! And she's right; being four is WAY better than being three....even if you still can't wear lipsticks.
ReplyDeleteAnd remember the invincible Princess Laya in Star Wars!
ReplyDeleteDude, she got a good haul! My kids would be so jealous of her birthday haul...
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Natalie!
sooooooo precious!!!
ReplyDeleteI think the princess thing is cute too. Of course I have 4 boys so probably anything that is not created for boys is pretty cute to me.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th Birthday to Natalie! She is a doll.
I don't blame Natalie, I loved Tangled too!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know, she'll be happy with anything you do for her until the day you break out the $30,000 birthday party complete with Cinderella pumpkin shaped coach with rides for the 300 kids you'll invite...after that party, the clearance items at Walmart won't really be enough. (Did you get the reference to that absurd show on TLC where those kids have these extravagant birthday parties? I didn't want you to think I was putting down what you did. I think simplicity is the epitome of lovely.) And the cake is amazing!
Adorable! The cake was beautiful, except I think there was hair on it! hehe
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely birthday :) That cake is gorgeous. Glad it was yummy...it looked yummy. My younger daughter was a disney princess girl too ,it's sweet. Hide your lipsticks lol
ReplyDeleteI'm a big believer in simple. Sounds like a lovely birthday to me.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
Happy birthday to Natalie. It looked like a great day.

ReplyDeleteI swear that kid gets cuter every day! And that cake looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Natalie. What a sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteTommy looks SO ready to help open presents in all of those pictures, haha. So cute!
ReplyDeletePrincesses are big at my house too. Our playroom looks like princesses were puked up all over it. LOL. So glad she had a great Birthday, it sounded perfect :)
