The Royal Wedding Is Over!

Yay!

It’s over!

It’s finally and mercifully over!

After weeks of hearing people go on about what Kate’s dress will look like, of what the wedding guests will be dining on, of the proper hats one wears to a royal wedding (really?!), it’s finally OVER.

If you’re living under a rock, I’m talking about the royal wedding.

Did anyone wake up at 4 AM to watch the nuptials?

If so, I swear I won’t laugh. (Well, maybe a little…)

I imagine I’ll catch some re-caps since I can almost bet all the channels will be showing them. I did like when I read how Kate omitted “obey” from her vows, just as Princess Diana did. There is no way I’d say I’d obey my husband. He’d be welcome to say he’d obey me, if he wishes....

Anyway.

No more Royal Wedding!

I imagine now the talk will be about Kate’s uterus and the heir that everyone hopes will be in it soon.

Still. At least we won’t have to hear about Buckingham Palace and disco balls in Buckingham Palace and ugly hats and “oh my Gods what is in the bag, could it be Kate’s dress?” and polishing horse carriages anymore.

So celebrate with me. Raise your glass of bubbly in the air (or in my case, water) and thank chocolate that we are done with the wedding nonsense.

  1. Heck no, I didn't wake up at 4 AM to watch...my alarm went off at 2:45 AM so I could watch every minute of the BBCAmerica coverage...all six hours of it! I'm a descendant of the Boleyns, so I'm envious that we're no longer royals! LOL

  2. No kidding! I did not realize the wedding was over because I avoid listening to rituals about putting mini-shackles on one's fingers. But hey good for them.

  3. For all the hoopla what I saw of it, everything was quite understated. I imagine ppl will be a little disappointed with the lack of sparkle and shine. meh...

  4. Teresa, seriously? Anne Boleyn is my favorite. I am into Henry VIII and all of that. Probably because it isn't shown on TV every two seconds.

  5. I guess you are going to ban me from your blog, because I did watch a little of it, I had my DVR set. I'm going to blame my daughter though because she feels she is a princess and I knew she would love to watch it, and since you are already going to drop me as a reader I will admit that I put a small little crown clip in her hair. Now that I have lost your respect as well as your other followers I will just wish you a happy weekend!

  6. Anything as overhyped as this wedding was - is bound to grate the nerves (or at least the incessant hyping is...)

Thank god is over (for now - next they will hype something else).

We in the USA broke away from England 235 years ago to get away from this royalty nonsense.

  7. Hahahahaha, I'd like to meet the woman that would say "obey" and promptly punch her in the uterus. Wait...did I say that out loud?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yes, seriously! We're descended from Queen Anne's Aunt Anne and her family. I was thrilled when I found out..Anne and Elizabeth have always been two of my favorite British royals.

  9. I loved all of the wedding hoopla. She looked stunning. I can see where it would get to be a little much, if you weren't into it.

  10. I think the slow motion replays of their first and second kiss are a little ridiculous. Actually, very very ridiculous! I wasn't at all interested in the royal wedding until this morning. I think I just wanted to see her dress. And then I was over it.

  11. Of course I didn't wake up at 4 am. It was 4PM in this part of the world ;-)

  12. OK. So, I can remember getting up early to watch Diana and Charles get married. At the time I was thinking that there was NO WAY I'd have a wedding. 21 years of marriage later, I still can't believe I was "princess for a day."

  13. You mean there was a wedding going on? really?

    :o)

  14. Preach it, sister.

Now we can all go back to our regularly scheduled lives.

  15. I'm SO glad it's over but now it will be talked about for a month and then everytime she eats a cheeseburger the bump watch will be all over it!

  16. I am sad you didn't get into the spirit. I turned the TV on a 5 a.m. this morning and watched it, listened to it on the radio into work and watched it on the Internet at work. Yahoo showed Good Morning America coverage and I admit it did make me giggle to hear the American perspective, which was mirrored by your comments (yet they were there. Hmm).

    To William and Kate.

  17. Teresa- that is SO cool you are descended from the Boleyns!!!! I am totally obsessed with Henry VIII and all his wives (Anne being my favorite!!) that I named our dog Henry in his honor!
And I'm sure you will all hate me, but I am excited to watch the royal wedding.. it's such historical significance and such slendor that I think it's cool we get to witness it. I did think all the "speculations" were a bit ridiculous though.. it's like, just wait until Friday to see how she is going to wear her hair, for heaven's sake!!

  18. I am so relieved that it is over! I am happy they found love but really, SO many people get married on a regular basis, doing more with less -- those are the weddings I am impressed by.

I didn't record it or watch it and I am happy to learn that I was not the only female in America who wasn't sucked into the madness of it all

  19. I had incredibly important things to do around 4:30am this morning - sleeping. It involved an awesome dream featuring me and Alexander Skaarsgard and whipped cream and a pony. Weird combo, but it's MY DREAM DAMMIT!

Seriously though, I'm glad the wedding is over. I'm glad the NFL draft is almost over. I'm glad this whole birther nonsense is fading into the background. Because, frankly, there are way more important things to be talking about, like how I had to sell the rights to my first born child to pay a tank of gas.

  20. It was on at a far more reasonable 7pm here, and not really understanding Japanese news made the whole thing much more enjoyable.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have to say though - that is EXACTLY the kind of wedding dress I was searching for for my OWN wedding! Really! Though I'm sure not at that price tag. Shoot, though she beat me too it!

    ReplyDelete
  22. What do you mean? You weren't wondering what was in the box that Kate brought out to her car??? Didn't you want to know if that was the hairstyle she was going to wear?
I don't normally watch the celebrity news shows, but for some reason one came on and that was a big deal :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yay! It's over! I didn't get up at 4 am but I did tune in to see what her dress looked like, I thought ist was lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have to admit, I was very excited about the wedding. I don't even know why, really. I almost - ALMOST - woke up at 4 am to catch it, but decided I valued my sleep just a teensy bit more. I did, however, wake up at like 5:15 and it was still going on, so I caught the tail end of it and the procession back to Buckingham palace.

I do think it was overkill on the pre-wedding programs, though. Like the hourlong specials devoted to what might be on the royal menu. Really??

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ever since I learned I was a descendant of Mary, Queen of Scots (whom the English royals beheaded), I'm so over them.

  26. A to the MEN on this one girl! Quite ridiculous all the hoopla. Now, let's talk about YOU. hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  27. I was awake at 6 like normal just in time for the nuptials.....I was so sick of hearing about it. But really glad I watched what I did she looked amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I tuned in to see her dress and it did not disappoint. But, I think there are far more important things going on like, over 200 people who lost their lives to the tornado that came through Alabama this week...but who am I to think of victims instead of rich people who wear weird hats?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Always up for a little bit of pomp and ceremony, me.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What wedding?

    I kid. :)

Yes, I'm really happy it's over because, now, we can go about our normal lives again ... right? Whew.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am SO glad it is over. It was taking up too much time on my television!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Don't ban me! I didn't get to watch it but I did DVR it just in case I wanted to watch the highlights. I did see her dress and I thought it was very pretty. Oh the royal life I guess. My husband is amazed that the "commoners" don't mind supporting the royals with their tax dollars. It is very different concept. Well at least I can watch more warranted news now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haha, don't worry, no one who watched the wedding at 4 will be banned. :) I get that some people love this type of thing. I love English royal history but not the current stuff. Henry VIII stuff. Yes. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sorry, the Wynn wedding is tomorrow, and in Vegas that's the one we care about. Who are these other people you speak of?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I didnt get up at 4- although I did get a little teary eyed thinking of the fact that Diana didnt live to see her boy married...of course, then I really got teary eyed because I adored her, we are both cancers, our Baies are a year apart yada yada yada...anyway, I am sure she would have loved Kate- I am happy for her son. (Raising my glass) "Here's to you mama- your boy done good."

    ReplyDelete
  36. LOL, I guarantee you are right about the press now being up their royal asses about when they are going to have a baby.
I didn't get up at 4 to watch, but I did catch the recaps between getting the kids ready for school and stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Who are these royal people you speak of?

I live in America. We don't have royal people over here.

Unless you count the Kennedys and Kardashians.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I DVR'd and watched it live. Totally sick, I know, but I also respect that lots of people really don't give a hoot.

You would be spot on about the next set of speculations will be focused on Kate's uterus. Poor thing. It's hard enough to have prospective grandparents breathing down your neck let alone a whole nation!

    ReplyDelete
  39. so I didn't wake up early but I did DVR it and have plans to watch it tonight with chocolate. I'm excited. And a nerd apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  40. My Knight had been hounding me for a week about getting up and watching it and figured I really wanted to..told him to go for it, I would be sleeping, lol. I ended up being up to let the dogs out at 6:15 after my son tried to wake us up with 'It's 6!! Get up!! ...the wedding!!' ugh. Got up, let dogs out, saw the dress, put dogs in, went back to bed.
    Woo...flippin...hooo.
I'd probably been more interested if it hadn't been on every stinking news report day and night for the past several months. Blah. Over it.

  41. THIS is a time when living overseas came in HANDY! I came home from work just in time to watch the arriving of the Royal Family on television- at 4:00p.m! So no getting up early for me, just leisurely watched it as I made dinner.

Now, you might think that Royal Wedding Fever might not spread as far as Jakarta, but you would be very, very wrong! ALL the cable channels had nothing but, the kids' had Royal Wedding Garden PArties at school (yes, even my 20-month-old's toddler class!), and when we got home the nanny had the TV on with the wedding coverage-and she never, EVER has the TV on when we get home (come on, she's smarter than that!).

I am so glad it's over, as well, though I was glad to see it. I remember watching Prince Charles and Princess DIana's wedding with my mom when I was about my daughter's age, so it was fun to share the same experience with her!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I did not... I put it on when I woke up, but I did not get up early!

    ReplyDelete
  43. So glad it is over! I'm totally with you on this one .... I. could. care. less.!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I woke up at 3:30 a.m and went to turn the TV on but Kate hadn't left the hotel yet so went back to bed and woke up just to see her kiss William. I loved watching it. We Americans don't get to have that in our county and therefore don't get the day off!! Also remember watching Diana and Charles get married when I was only 21 years old so feel a connection to the young couple. Call me crazy. That is ok.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm not embarrassed to admit I was up at 1:45, warming scones, whipping cream, steeping tea and waiting for my niece and sister-in-law to arrive so we could cozy in and watch the festivities from beginning to end (they started at 2 am in this part of the country) ... There are so many opportunities to unite over tragedies in this world (the Japanese earth quake & tsunami ... the tornados in Alabama ... hurricane Katrina) ... it's a gift when we can celebrate something as simple (and complicated) as love ... together ... even if it's the love of two strangers from across the pond. Yep ... you can call me Pollyanna.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Polishing horse carriages sounds like a dirty euphamism.

But no, I did not wake up at 4 or whenever it was to see it. 7 a.m. to get my kid up for school is early enough. Though I still know more about it than I ever wanted to since the news stations have been replaying it over.. and over.. and over..

    ReplyDelete
  47. I did not watch it at all. I worked until midnight last night (for the second day in a row) and there was no way I was getting my ass out of bed at 3 (central time) to watch.

However, I did check out the hat gallery on msn.com. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie should fire their stylists. Beatrice looked like the corpse bride between the wishy washy color of her dress and the heavy black eyeliner. Oh, and the octopus on her head didn't do her any favors either. Eugenie looked like a heifer in that puffy dress. There was a picture of Beatrice and Eugenie standing with their father in between them and he looked like he was afraid his daughter's hats were going to attack him. Priceless.

  48. I watched some of the recap on BBC America during normal waking hours. Loved it. History was being made!!

  49. AMEN, AMEN, AMEN!!!

Ugh, I'd tired of feeling like a grinch because I couldn't care less about the whole thing!! Who cares??? A huge waste of money. They're rich and a burden to their country for doing....nothing.

    Boring!

  51. Okay. I admit it. I got up at 3:00 am and watched the wedding. There. Do I have to go to Royal Wedding Anonymous now? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I didn't wake up early, but I did watch some of it over breakfast. It was kind of neat to be watching something positive instead of a tsunami or something.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I got up at 5am and watched it.

With all the ugly in the world, it was nice to be part of the most sincerely happy event of the century.

They looked to be so in love, unlike the fabricated romance of his parents.

Can only wish good things for them and a more modern monach. He married a commoner, and married someone HE loves.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I will SO celebrate with you. I did get up to watch- I didn't watch all the guests arriving- I got up around 6 to watch the actual wedding.

And that was only b/c I HAD to for work. Otherwise, I would have been sleeping.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I was too busy sleeping. Much too busy. Then I went to my internship, and then Six Flags Over Texas (it's just a short drive away and I have season passes)

I honestly didn't even know what day it was on, but I knew that whenever it was, I'd hear about it. I tried to avoid it, but, inevitably, I ended up hearing about it and seeing snippets anyway. I don't understand what's with all the hooplah about it...I know a royal married a commoner, blah blah....but it's just a wedding. And they aired it so many times that there was no purpose in getting up in the middle of the night to see a wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I feel the EXACT same way...I'm not even kidding! And I work with Shell and so they only reason I watched any of it was because of work.

    Sigh.

    SO glad it's over!

  57. Ashley, Its a bigger deal to Canada than USA as most canadian provinces are part of the Britich Common Wealth.

The big deal is more about his mother Diana. She broke tradition by sending the boys to a school not of the royal family, kept them grounded etc. Then she died and to see them grow up from babies and turn into these men, and marry who they want, not whom they're expected to marry etc. It's a big deal. They are making the monarchy a people's royal again, as until the last couple years many common wealth were losing interest in the royal family over all. They're personable, inviting, young and have done what other royals in waiting haven't done,,,They have real jobs(aside from charity duties). I'm sure i'm not explaining this very well.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh we are so not done with this wedding. You can't forget all the commemorative plates and stamps and gossip mags...oy...we are so not done.

  59. Can you hear me applauding your post (?), and you? Do I agree? Oh my dying butt, I got sick and tired of all that clown party.

Good that I found you. I was feeling like an outcast, like a bad apple.
