Finally. A Honeymoon.

Tom and I were married nearly 10 years ago.

We did not go on a honeymoon.

This was because we were 19.

Oh, and we were broke.

Did I mention I was seven months pregnant?

So yeah.

No honeymoon.

But we knew we always wanted one. Someday.

Well, that day has come.

In March 2012, we’re going here:

That would be Hawaii.

If you have any tips or places we should go, please let me know. We're staying at the military hotel the Hale Koa.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

  1. I've never been to Hawaii but it is on my list. We went to Aruba for our honeymoon. It was so relaxing and beautiful.

  2. Jamaica. It was a beautiful country populated almost entirely by people who seemed to be waiting almost hungrily for us to step off the property of the All-Inclusive resort we were staying at so they could slit our throats and steal our shoes.

    Hawaii's a good pick.

  3. I was there as a small child on a layover from Singapore (or so my folks tell me), but I've never really been. You guys deserve this and I'm so happy for you.

  4. Stopping in from SITS! We didn't really go anywhere either...I have a chronic illness and was quite ill when we were married...but we did tour the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (we live in the Lower Pen.) along Lake Superior. It was quite beautiful. Have a WONDERFUL time on your Hawaiin Honeymoon!!!

  5. So awesome! I hope you guys have an awesome time! I was born in Hawaii, but since we left when I was 2 I can't offer any tips on where to go...besides the obvious (Pearl Harbor) the only thing I know is the pink hospital (Tripler) I was born in..lol. I want to go so bad one day to see over there.
I'm getting married next year and we're hoping to go to Italy. Italy and Hawaii are my 2 dream spots lol. :c)

  6. Hope you enjoy your "Honeymoon"!!! I went to Aruba (when I married my first husband... yes I have two of those LOL). It was beautiful. Enjoy Hawaii...I've never been but I bet it is going to be amazing!

  7. I think this deserves a whoooohooooo!!!!!!

That's awesome! I've never been, but have had family who has lived there before. My great Uncle actually died on the USS Arizona after it was attacked by Japan. His name was Lewis Jackson Pike, S1c from Georgia. I'm pretty sure Tom will want to go see the memorial.

you may want to check out FarmGirlPaints blog. Look in her post history, she did a series of posts of their recent trip to Hawaii. :o)

We went back for our 10th anniversary, too. And we're considering going on our 20th next year. Picking a new island each time we go...we'll get them all visited before our lifetime ends (PG!!!)

  14. Never had a honeymoon. Went to Hawaii on business and had such a bad time I never went back.

How come Natalie doesn't get to go? She would love the water. (but kind of be a bummer to a romantic honeymoon)

  20. Yay! Have fun! I love it here. The Hale Koa is really nice. It's on the beach, right smack dab in the middle of Waikiki. Even though you're getting a great price, doesn't mean you're having any corners cut. You should definitely go to where that picture is, Hanauma Bay. It has awesome snorkeling and it's really affordable, especially for military. But, plan to get there early or you will have a heck of a time finding parking. At least one trip up to the North Shore is worth the drive. The town of Haleiwa is super adorable touristy spot. Great to grab lunch and poke around shops. Then onto some of the best beaches in the world. Waimea Bay is one of my personal favorites. Sunset Beach is a great one too. I have tons more suggestions but don't want to overwhelm you so I'll leave it at that. But, let me know if you want more! So excited for you!

  21. I'm so jealous! Our circumstances were the same as yours ... nineteen and broke ... minus the pregnancy. :) Fast-forward nearly twelve years and we still haven't had a honeymoon. And since I'm pregnant with baby #4, I can't see one in the cards any time soon! Hmmph.

  22. Never married - no honeymoon.

    Enjoy Hawaii!!

  23. We haven't had a real honeymoon yet either and we'll be married for 8 years soon. Hawaii is definitely on my trip wish list. Hopefully soon.

  28. We spent a weekend in a couple of small towns 30 miles from home. We've each been to Hawaii, and we plan to go for a month in a couple of years, when we're done with grandkid daycare. One word: sunscreen.

  29. WOOHOO HONEYMOON!!!
We are postponing our honeymoon too, but I'm glad to hear that it doesn't mean we can't ever have one.

  33. Thanks for visiting my blog earlier.

What a great picture! I was there once many years ago with a boyfriend on his business trip. I don't remember much of it anymore, except that I never left the Wakiki hotel very much. There's so much to do in the hotel. I bought myself two rings with mother pearl and coral, and a doctor arrived to give me a shot, when I broke out in a rash that itched like crazy.

    I wish you sweet memories!

  35. I have been married for (going on) 21 years. We didn't have a honeymoon. And we STILL haven't (do you sense the resentment?) and from the way things look at the moment, we will never get one.

But, even so, I'm SO glad you are finally getting yours. I can't to hear all about it when you get back!

  37. My first marriage we didn't have a honeymoon.

This time arround, we went to Vegas, as it was the only vacation we could justify NOT taking the kids on. It was actually just about two months ago. :)

    Have a great time!

    I'm totally jealous!

  42. Awww how sweet! My husband and I never got a honeymoon either. He was finishing police academy and had to be back in his academy dorm at 9pm the Sunday after we were married. Then, when we planned our makeup honeymoon- I got pregnant ;)We live in Charleston, SC though so we have the beach right here. We are planning on taking a cruise in June as long as our tax returns are what we expected them to be. No problem with childcare- both sets of grandparents are already begging us to let us watch him. It'd be nice if they would pay for the cruise too ;)

  43. We JUST took our honeymoon last month, after being married just over 3 years. We've been together 10 years at the end of this month & this was our first real vacation--I'd say it's been long overdue! lol. We went to Steamboat Springs, CO & had a blast!

  44. We went on a job interview, stopped at his parents, and headed back to college. First anniversary went to New Orleans. Third anniversary went to Spain. Tenth anniversary were in Paris. Figured would never top that so lame honeymoon was forgiven and forgotten!

    ReplyDelete
  45. We were 19 and pregnant when we got married too. Lol. So no honeymoon. But we are going to New Orleans next month, just the two of us, for our first "no kids" vacay ever. My sis and her hubby flew home from Hawaii today. It was their first ever "no kids" getaway as well.

    Happy Hawaiin Honeymoon!!

  46. ooooh Hawaii! That's where I want to go on honeymoon with the hubby. We just got married in August and haven't gone on honeymoon due to lack of cash (and time!). I'm trying my darndest to convince him it'd be a good idea.

    Have a GREAT time!

  47. Congratulations!!! Totally awesome!

Thanks to the events of 9-11, I didn't get a honeymoon right away either. In fact, it took over 6 years to finally have the time to do it! We finally went to Savannah, GA though and I had it all pre-planned and paid for before Thomas returned from his 3rd deployment! AND I paid for it all 100% by myself - so proud of that!!!

Our next assignment should be Hawaii, so I'm really interested to see how you like it!

  48. How beautiful! You're going to have a great time.

I went to Bora Bora on my honeymoon. It was pretty pretty.

  49. Oh my gosh! I'm so happy for you guys!! We were in Hawaii for my sister's wedding a mere 3 months BEFORE our own wedding. It was GORGEOUS. Expensive, but gorgeous. (seriously. The food, the gas, EVERYTHING is more than you'd think. Milk is RIDICULOUS.)

I was on Kauai, though, so I don't have any recommendations. Ask Kailani over at An Island Life. She lives in Hawaii. :)

  50. Well that is a honeymoon worth waiting for. Have a great time. My coworker went to Hawaii recently and said it was fantastic.

  51. YAY for a honeymoon! I have only been to Maui but CP and I would go back in a heartbeat! You guys are going to have a great time.

Our honeymoon was spent in South Africa (one week doing a safari in Kruger National Park) and Mozambique (one week scuba diving). It was fantastic!

  52. Oooh! Have lots of fun! I've always wanted to go! (we have some friends stationed there, so we could've gone for cheapish... but I don't think it's in the cards right now..)
*I've always wanted to see the volcanoes.. that's what you guys should do!!

(We stopped in Gatlinburg, TN on our way down to NC.. Jerk Face deployed to Iraq about 2 weeks after our wedding.)

We eloped and got married in Jamaica. It was divine.

  57. Congrats one finally getting your honeymoon!! AWESOME!

My only recommendation, if you can afford it, find a helicopter tour and do that! Holy Good Good that was the most amazing thing I have ever done!! Of course, I didn't have to pay for it (thank you ex-boyfriend's parents! I had a swell time!) but I still REALLY recommend it! Super fun!

  58. We went to a tiny island off the coast of Belize called Caye Calker. It was AMAZING! We stayed in this (very) rustic little cottage on stilts and only paid $250 for 7 nights! There was a tiny bakery right down the road and we walked there every morning for fresh baked breakfast.
