I rubbed my eyes. Crap. Was my Lasik breaking? Why couldn’t I see the letters properly?
“Tommy?” I called out to my son who has perfect vision. “Can you read that?”
He squinted. “Um…CHN…uh…X? It’s hard to see.”
“Aha! My Lasik isn’t breaking!” I shouted triumphantly.
Tommy looked at me as though I just admitted to making out with Spongebob Squarepants. (Which I would never. Too spongy. And I don’t like his pants.)
I was talking about the new word verification that Blogger has. Before it was annoying, but at least you could see the letters.
Now it’s TWO words that you have to write. TWO. And one always seems to be blurry. It makes you think that you’ve had one strawberry daiquiri too many. It’s like Gary Busey or something. You’re not quite sure what’s going on with it.
There are many times when I’ve typed the wrong thing and Blogger was like, “Sorry. Wrong word,” and I’m like, “F-you, Blogger! I only have ten minutes of free time and trying to figure out what word you have down is WASTING IT ALL!” And to top it off, it DELETES my comment so I have to write it all over again.
Before, if I couldn’t read the word, I could request a new one. But now if I try to get a new word, it won’t give me one. It tells me, “Are you sure you want to leave the page?” and I’m like, “No, I’d LOVE to leave this comment but I CAN’T!”
So people.
I’m begging you.
Turn off word verification.
It’s making me cry.
And curse.

I just managed to get mine turned off but they don't make it easy. Took me quite a while to figure out how to do it!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have one of those, or I hope I don't becuase they are sadly the reason why I give up most times and don't leave a comment. The new ones are really trippy and I find them to be way harder to crack, I understand you want to make sure it is a person but are these no people getting better a cracking random letters?
ReplyDeleteIt's gotten WORSE for some reason. I used to be able to easily see what both words were, but now almost every time I do the verify I THINK i know what the one word is. . . and mostly I'm right. . . but it's sketchy. I noticed that maybe a week ago or so for the first time.
ReplyDeleteWord verify didn't used to be this hard did it?
Love the Gary Busey reference! :D
ReplyDeleteYou are a dedicated commenter. If I don't get the word verification right the first time, I give up. And if I have to write my comment all over again, forget it.
ReplyDeleteI hate it too. Glad I'm not alone.
ReplyDeleteI love when people have word verification AND comment moderation on!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that drives me nuts!
I hate the word verification! I do have the comment moderation on but that's because I had a stalker-type person leaving mean comments.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! Seriously, the one word was difficult enough! I want to scratch my eyeballs out when I have to do those things!!
ReplyDeleteEver since I turned mine off and I can't stand others! I turned that and comment moderation off because I was just tired of it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize I had it until a few days ago. I had to google to figure out how to stop it. It is really hard to read! I hated doing it with other people. I felt bad that I was making people do it, and I didn't even know!
ReplyDeleteI hate it too. I didn't realize mine was on til someone told me so I quickly turned it off. But Blogger makes it so hard because you have to switch back to their old interface to do so. It's a little bit of a process, but worth it!
ReplyDeleteI am glad it is not just my eyes. Holy cow....why are they making it so difficult. Is there some serious epidemic of hacking mommy blogs that I am not aware of?
ReplyDeleteI hate to admit it, I have turned away from several blogs because it is too hard to comment. Sometimes I still read, because they are that good, but it doesn't feel the same.
Amen. I am with you on this one.
ReplyDeleteMost annoying thing ever!
ReplyDeleteJust making sure the Lasic works.
ReplyDeleteHuh. Maybe that's why no one is commenting on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI HATE it and will not comment on anyone's site, now, that has it. It's patently absurd. There's not enough time in my life to deal with it. And, that's too bad because I like to leave comments. Sorry for the rant...
ReplyDeleteI hate word verification!!
ReplyDeleteSooooo with you! I have been so annoyed by it this week! It's bad enough having to prove you're not a robot, but when you can't even read the words they put out there you start to wonder if it's even worth it.
ReplyDeleteUgh, word verification is the worst!!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was just me! LOL! So glad I am not the only one who hates this!
ReplyDeleteI hate it too. Makes me want to punch something. Haha.
ReplyDeleteBefore it was a minor inconvenience, but I understood it (who wants trolls visiting?). But now? Now it's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteBetween this, the Google Friends thing and a few other things, I swear Blogger is trying to make us all jump ship to WordPress
I thought I was going crazy! I had noticed that the words were harder to read, and I seriously believed I was imagining it. The worst are those people who require you to do the word verification, but STILL need to authorize your comments before they appear. What's the point of both?!
ReplyDeleteI really really really agree with this. REALLY.
ReplyDeleteYES!!!! It drives me crazy. I have noticed that most of the blogs I have been visiting lately have it on- when it didn't seem that way too long ago. I wonder if it's a default with the whole Google switch.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know it is horrible now with the new format on Blogger. I have it on my blog b/c I GET SO MUCH SPAM!! It is insane and out of control!
ReplyDeleteAGREED!!!!!! all caps for emphasis clearly.
ReplyDeleteI like the new captcha thing. See...I am a terrible speller. But when I type these weird words the way I see them, they actually come out right. Like if the word is bargaining..and I try to spell that and get it wrong...it ends up being right because as you know, the new words are never what they look like. Make sense or do I just need to go to sleep?
ReplyDeleteoh it HAS gotten worse. I just found that out on someone else's blog! I'm off to check if I have it on or not...silly spammers have me putting it on every few months :-)
ReplyDeleteSo very true, I think that's why I turned mine off. Hate it. :)
ReplyDeleteUgh, the word verification makes me SO MAD. It's so frustrating!
ReplyDeleteFunny rant, but I'm too chicken to turn it off. They must have taken the negative feedback into consideration, as now I have noticed that they dropped off the black blotch they were including in the middle, which was really mucking it up.
ReplyDeleteYou might like my post. I ranted about the very same thing!
ReplyDeleteAmen to this post! Captcha is the devil!
