Our Trip To Texas

We got to visit my parents in Texas over Thanksgiving break. This doesn't happen often because Tom can't always get leave. But this time it worked out. It takes about 6-7 hours to get to their home. We went the day before Thanksgiving so it took like 9.

It wasn't so bad though. I mean, we got to try our Weinerschnitzel. It's a fantastic fast food place whose specialty is HOT DOGS. I had never had it but my friend Jennifer always raves about so I thought, "Okay, she says there's chili cheese fries. I LOVE chili cheese fries!" The food was amazing. Even Tom, who is incredibly picky, liked it.

Thanksgiving was fun. I didn't have to cook so I was happy.

(That's my dad carving the turkey with an electric carver.)

We had my grandma and a friend join us too.

The next day we did not venture out on Black Friday but Mom and I DID go to The Melting Pot for unlimited fondue night. We stuffed our faces.

The cheese is amazing!

I ate so much cheese.

But my favorite part?

Go to The Melting Pot if you haven't. Go on unlimited fondue night and you can eat all you want. I had to undo my jeans. But it was worth it.

The next day we went to see the working dog memorial at Lackland AFB:

And then we walked around and looked at airplanes:

Tom graduated basic training here:

That night we went to a place called Santa's Ranch to see Christmas lights:

Texas was a blast! We hope to be able to go again soon.

Only next time I hope it doesn't take as long to get there.

  1. Sounds like so much fun Amber! Being from Texas, I found myself feeling nostalgic reading this post! :) Santa's Ranch looks awesome! And I LOVE The Melting Pot! YUM!!-Ashley

  2. Oh - I love San Antonio!! I need a fun trip toTX - my last few haven't been so fun!!!
Glad you had such a great time with your parents.
Chris went to Lackland for Basic, too - many years ago!!!

  3. Okay, I didn't get pass the melting pot. another place that is not here in this frozen land they call a town. I'm so jealous and I am now craving melted cheese.

  4. Sounds like such a fun trip! I don't know why I never tried the Melting Pot when I lived near one. It sounds like heaven.

  5. OMG!!! You were just a hop skip and a jump away from me in Seguin. If I had known you were coming to Texas I would have made arrangements to meet you somewhere in San Antonio.

Something you should know. If you really like Weinerschnitzel, I found that Nathan's hot dogs are the closest thing to Weinerschnitzel's in taste. I haven't found the chili that comes closest to their's yet, but I am still looking.

  6. I'm from Texas myself. Tyler, in fact! :) I think I've even been to that Santa's ranch place…at least one very much like it growing up. Never been to Weinerschnitzel though.

  7. Why does my correct google account never show up!?? Just a side note. ;)

  8. So glad you got to make the trip and see your parents! That's quite a drive with kids in the car!

  9. Oh, the Melting Pot! One thing I miss about Jersey. We had one close to work and we'd all get together and go after work once a month on a Friday night. One of my friends would ALWAYS eat himself into a food coma and he'd never learn and do it all again.

  10. Oh that cheese....and the chocolate!!
I'm sorry...there were so many other fun pictures showing a lovely holiday, and all I can think is "mmmm...cheese."

  11. I've never been to the Melting Pot and I hate it! I want some fondue!

  12. Looks like fun!! I want to go to Texas. Mr. Big used to live in Tyler and he says that its the only other place that feels like home to him aside from our little island.

And another awesome thing? I LOVE that your dad has long hair!! Mine does too!!

  13. My son was at Lackland for a while...Ooo and Melting Pot? Yes Please!

  14. The Melting Pot looks amazing! So sad they don't have something like that up here!

  15. Looks like you guys had a wonderful trip!
