Having a baby is a life-changing event. It's wonderful, but it's also exhausting. Lack of sleep is tough. Getting peed on? Gross. Having to pack half the house when you take Baby out? Confusing.
Checking the bank account after having a baby?
Terrifying.
They're expensive little buggers. They're precious, but expensive.
Here are ways to help cut the costs when you have baby so you don't sob when you check the account.
1. Ask to purchase the floor model.
I did this with my daughter's crib and saved $200. There were a few scuff marks and one ding, but nothing terrible.
2. Don't be embarrassed to ask for discounts.
My husband is in the military so I always inquire about military discounts. If I'm told no, I say thank you and move on. But more often than not, I'll be told that they can take 5-10% off the price. Every little bit helps!
3. Buy secondhand.
Seriously, we should have bought bouncers secondhand. I did buy tons of used clothes. There are so many secondhand stores for kids today. Many make sure they only put out safe products, so you don't have to worry about buying a faulty stroller.
4. Make your own baby food!
It's cheaper! And there are so many websites and recipes dedicated to doing this. I'm all about simple, and many recipes are simple and quick.
5. Don't break with bank with diapers. Buy Luvs. Also, coupon! Be sure to check out Sunday's paper (May 28th) for a $2 off coupon. Or you can get a $2 print at home coupon.
Luvs Diapers are softer and more absorbent than ever before. Plus they have large stretch tabs for quick changes and ultra leakage protection. If for some reason you aren't happy with Luvs, there's a money-back guarantee. Check out www.luvsdiapers.com for details. Luvs Ultra Leakguards with NightLock Plus™ provide the protect and comfort a parent wants for their baby for less of the cost than other brands. Plus they are soft and gentle on baby's skin. My kids used these a lot with no issues.
Remember: don't forget that you can get a $2 print at home coupon for Luvs diapers here. Do whatever you can to save money.
Are expensive.
(But cute.)

My youngest in still in diapers, so I'm still looking for ways to cut down costs.
ReplyDeleteThese are great tips! Totally agree on 3 and 4. We're using disposable diapers half of the time. We rarely have supermarket coupons over here, but we do when we buy online. Lots of savings using those.
ReplyDeleteThe baby is so amazing, and expensive from their vaccinations to clothes everything. Also, the diapers should be of great quality, will recommend to my friend who has a new born, just a few months old.
