Buddy V's Ristorante and Carlo's Bake Shop Review

"Let's go pig out on carbs," I told my husband Tom.

"Um. Okay?" he answered.

We were trying out Buddy V's, which is an Italian restaurant that just opened last month.

Yes, it's from THAT Buddy and I told him, "Good day, sir."

You might recognize him from The Cake Boss. That was one of the first things the waitress said to us,

"Do you watch The Cake Boss?"

I do, once in a while. I always marvel at the cakes that are created but I also know I could never afford one.

The restaurant opened at the La Cantera shops in San Antonio and I highly recommend going during the week, because it still gets swarmed on the weekends.

It was lovely inside. Comfortable decor and all of that. Not overly fancy, which I like, because overly fancy makes me nervous.

Here's the menu:

I know. So many delicious things! I kept going back and forth.

Our waitress was phenomenal by the way. As soon as our drinks were half full (or half empty..however you look at it), she would get us more.

I mean, yes, we just had Coke and Diet Coke, but still. We aren't wine people. If you like wine, yes, they have many selections.

We tried the garlic cheesy bread:

And everyone gets bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Seriously. If you're anti-carb, I'd avoid this place. Or get a boring salad.

The garlic cheesy bread was flavorful. I love my garlic. I ate too much of the bread. The waitress asked if we wanted more, and I almost said yes, but then realized I'd have no room for my lunch. So I declined.

I went with the chicken rigatoni alla vodka:

Tom went with the chicken parm:

I loved mine. Tom said his chicken was good, but the spaghetti part was just eh. The waitress told us all the recipes were from Buddy's family. We will be going back to try other dishes! I think I'd want to taste them all. Could I make them on my own? No. I'm lazy.

Yes, there was dessert available, but guess what also opened nearby:

DA-DA-DUMMMMM:

Yes!

Now, when this first opened, people waited in line for HOURS. As much as I love my baked goods, there's no way I'd ever wait that long. So I waited for the excitement to die down. There were only two other families inside when we went.

I practically drooled all over myself. If I were rich, I'd have gotten one of everything. As it is, I am NOT rich, so I limited it to three items. They aren't overly expensive, but like DisneyWorld food expensive. My husband didn't want anything. He's bizarre. He's not into sweets like I am.

I went with these:

a cannoli, a lobster tail (cream is in the middle), and the cookie was for my son. My daughter doesn't have much of a sweet tooth either.

My favorite? (Yes, I took a bite of the cookie.)

The cannoli! Everything about it was amazing. If I go back, I'm getting two of them. Summer body, be damned.

So have you ever been to Buddy V's or Carlo's Bake Shop?
