5 Ways To Annoy Me On An Airplane

I'm not a fan of flying because I've watched too many episodes of Lost. But sometimes I have to do it, like when we go on vacations or when we're visiting family members. I'd rather endure an airplane than drive for hours on end.

Still, even though it's quicker, riding on an airplane isn't always the easiest thing to do. Here are ways to piss me (and others, I imagine) while on an airplane.

(And I'll be away from this blog for the week because I'll be in Walt Disney World next week. Follow my adventures on Instagram and Facebook.)

1. Lean your seat all the way back.

At least PAY ME before you rest your head in my lap. I totally get that you paid for your seat and therefore can do what you wish with it, but common decency should not be thrown out the window. If you do go all the way back, expect me to move around frantically, because I'll start to feel trapped, and if I happen to hit the back of your seat, well, move it up.

2. Talk to me when I'm trying to read.

If I have my book open, I'm done conversing. I always seem to get the person who wants to chat the entire way near me.

3. Say, "Sorry, we're out of Diet Coke. Can I get you a real Coke?"

No. No you cannot.

4. Allow your kid to continuously kick the back of my seat. I get if it happens occasionally--I have kids too. But I once had a boy kick my seat every couple of minutes.

I had to turn around and ask him to stop. I have my limits. I'm surprised the mother didn't write a blog post entitled To The Woman Who Told My Son To Stop Kicking Her Seat and tell a sob story on how he battled and won a mysterious illness not once, but twice.

6. Say casually, "Oh, we're all going to die," when there is turbulence. You have people who don't like to fly (ME!) on the flight who will panic and take you seriously.

What are your flying pet peeves?

  1. All of the above. Once, a baby kept screaming and I don't think his young mom spoke English. She was so nervous, so of course the baby knew this and got worse. My husband asked if he could hold the baby and he walked him until he calmed down. At the end of the flight, everyone was slapping my husband on the back and calling him a hero. LOL

    1. Aw, I just love this! How nice of your husband.

  2. All of these! Plus when people play movies loudly or talk too loudly!

  3. Flying is an activity that takes a lot of cooperation from your neighbors. A screaming baby can ruin your life so easily on a flight.

  4. I hate that when I'm reading or have my headphones in it means don't talk to me but that's when folks want to talk the most lol

  5. Seat kicking and bumping is one of mine too. On long flights when I'm trying to sleep it's awful!

  6. Kids kicking my seat or screaming the whole time really irk me when I'm on a flight. I don't like small talk with strangers either and prefer they just leave me alone.

  7. All of this are really true and sometime is so hard to make argue with those thing. Its better to ask assistance to the attendant to explain what you need to say.Thanks.

  8. I don't know but I find this post funny. I guess because I can relate to a lot of. I hate all of then either by the way, flights must be soothing and easy

  9. I haven't flown in a long time, and we are lucky enough to have a small airport near by that usually has flights that are not full. These are all definitely annoying airplane things!

  10. People leaning their seat all the way back is super annoying to me too. I don't do it because I know for certain that it's annoying but some people just don't think.

  11. Hi, very good article thanks for sharing keep up the good work!

  12. I'll lean my seat back if the person in front of me does it too, if not I can't comfortably watch a movie! Kicking the seats is a big NO for me though.

  13. #1 is the story of my life. It's too bad that legroom on planes keep shrinking.

  14. Yes all these happens when I travel to India. That is long flight, tried and feel horrible.

  15. I don't enjoy flying that much either, but luckily, I haven't had those things happen too often lately. The silver lining of being middle age and overweight, is most people aren't that interested in having a conversation with me. When I was younger, everyone wanted to tell me their life story.

  16. Yes, if my head is in a book, I probably don't want to talk. THese are all ways to annoy me on a plane too!!

  17. My biggest pet peeve is a crying baby and I say that will all due respect to the parents. Flying for me is a time to tune out and just be with "me" and I really appreciate the silence. Nonetheless, people leaning way back or banging on my seat can be just as annoying.

  18. Oh my goodness! I ALWAYS get behind the person who lays all the way down! SO annoying!

  19. Repeated kicking is definitely annoying. I also have had the guy next to me spread out into my 10 inches of leg room.

  20. LOL too many episodes of LOST. I am right there with you gal. I avoid vacations where a long flight is involved.

  21. THese all annoy me too. Recently I was travelling by coach from Holland to UK and a woman put her seat all the way back so that the baby seat wouldn't fit in there. She refused to move it forward.

  22. All of these, plus, when a stranger rests his/her head on your shoulder (accidently during sleep.) What do you DOOOOO???? I blame #1 on the airlines. Stupid to let seats recline in the first place. Get outa my space.

  23. The reclining of the seat... OMG! I'm anxious just reading your post... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  24. HAha, yeah I get you, but I'm guilty in one of these, now I know that I shouldn't do that. Lmao.

  25. I hear you and feel you on this one! Seriously the kicking of the back of the seat. Why do they let their kids do it!?

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's funny that you even have pics or video for it, yeah it would annoy me too when I experience any of those.

  27. Omg the book thing I felt it in my bones hahaha same girl

  28. I am in 100% agreement with these. My hubby just read this and started laughing and said I could have wrote this, lol. GREAT!!!!!!

  29. I just got on an airplane a couple of weeks and the chairs didn't recline, and I thought it was magical. I dislike it when people reclines in such a small place

    ReplyDelete
  30. I've only been on a plane a couple times and i can absolutely agree with all 5 of these items.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Talking to me when I am trying to read! Top of the list for me. The rest of it are just slight irks that come with flying for me, but the reading- that should be applied to all areas of life. If my book is in my hand, my "do not approach" sign should be seen loud and clear lol. Also, have a blast at Disney!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I've never been on a plane before, but these would make me mad too. I completely agree with a lot of these. I couldn't imagine someone letting their kid kick your seat. That would annoy me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ha! Ha! these are indeed real. My pet one has to be the one about reclining the chair all the way back. That is gross indecency, if you ask me!

    ReplyDelete
  34. The way you can annoy me on the plane is to talk loudly. Take your damn earphones off before you talk. Good grief.

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL after being in 7 near crashing events on planes I assure these are minor aggravations for sure, but I do highly recommend some Xanax pre flight with a cocktail it is the alone way I can fly now.... LOL. Yeah I am not kidding at all..

    ReplyDelete
  36. So many of these really resonated with me. Taking flights can be really tough at times.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I laughed way too hard at this! I used to travel for a living when I toured as an Irish dancer and YES TO ALL OF THESE!

    ReplyDelete
  38. yes to each of these! havent traveled in a year but flying can be tough

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've been lucky enough to not deal with any of these which is a blessing because flying freaks me out! I think the worst experience was a pilot who was apologizing for the delay and announced "we're going fly this plane like we stole it", proceeded to whip the plane through the taxi for takeoff, then thrust right into takeoff to hit 38,000 feet!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Those are all awful. Yes, I totally agree with you on this!

    ReplyDelete
  41. These are all on my list, though I blame the airlines for the first one. I'm not sure why they even have the recline option any more since they don't allow space for reclining. I mostly hate the children kicking. When I flew with my kids, I was hyper aware of my children being polite.
