“Well, there goes the good cook,” I sighed as Tom’s Mom left. She had stayed a few days and yes, she did make a few things. She made me her potato salad. Oh, and these:
Those would be sad buckeyes and chocolate dipped peanut butter Ritz crackers.
I call them sad buckeyes because they weren’t quite working properly since we used margarine instead of regular butter.
(Look. Here’s a picture of a Sad Buckeye with eyes.
It’s all, “Hello! I may look pathetic but I’m still tasty!”)
I ate the sad buckeyes anyway. I couldn’t let them go to waste.
I may have also eaten the leftover melted chocolate that we dipped the things in.
What, like I’m going to dump out perfectly good chocolate?
Anyhow, it was a nice visit with Tom’s Mom.
Natalie took a few days to warm up to her. She’s like that with adults. Like when Tom’s Mom first got here she played shy. Oh, she allowed Tom’s Mom to admire her from afar—but if she got to close, she gave her a warning stare. Come any closer, and I’ll bite!
Actually, she doesn’t really bite.
Well, unless you tell her that you will not put in Snow White for her to watch for the thousandth time.
But she can look quite scary when she wants to.
On the day before Tom’s Mom was set to leave, Natalie decided that she’d allow her to touch her.
So she started to do this:
She’s all, “You’ve been granted permission to touch me. Be thrilled. Now you must catch me.”
She shared herself with everyone that night.
Daddy also had to catch her:
Then I had to catch her.
We’ll all miss her.
Hurry back, Grandma. We already miss your potato salad.

How nice that Grandma was allowed to touch her just in time to leave. I have one of those, too :) Can I come over and share potato salad and buckeyes?? Now you're speaking my language!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd have eaten them all up too, you can't just let them go to waste. It's also great that y'all got to spend time with Grandma. We love when we get to spend time like that as a family too:)
ReplyDeleteDoes she want to come here and help me bake stuff/make treats? I'm really bad at it!
ReplyDeletePotato salad is SOOO good, and of course anything with chocolate. I am proud of you for not throwing out the melted chocolate! (I would have dipped pretzels in it.)
ReplyDeleteso glad though that she got to come ahead even with the snow!!
ReplyDeleteglad ya'll got a good visit!!!
When the buckeyes come out sad, you don't have to share them. I've been known to make a couple sad ones on purpose...
ReplyDeleteUses for left over melted chocolate:
ReplyDeleteREESE'S PEANUT BUTTER BALLS
Mix well and roll into balls:
1 stick butter, melted
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 c. peanut butter
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. wate
Melt:
18 oz. chocolate chips
1/2 lb. paraffin
Using a toothpick, dip balls into melted chocolate. Place on waxed paper.
I used to make this for the kids at Christmas when they were all small.

ReplyDeleteThat's so nice that your mom in law came to visit and do some cooking for you. I would have eaten all that chocolate off that tray girl!
ReplyDeleteWay to go and I love potato salad! Send Tom's mom my way!!
My niece used to be like that with "no touching" until she got used to you. Thankfully, she outgrew it, though she's still a little shy. And my youngest son's favorite video was Snow White. He loved the "kwicked ween" as he called her. Glad you had an awesome visit. =]

Oh, any buckeye is a dang fine buckeye! Best not to give a buckeye a complex by not eating it, I always say.
ReplyDeleteThose look pretty tasty. I have never had a buckeye. And to be completely honest I will eat just about anything dipped in chocolate.
ReplyDeleteOK, so now I have to go Google buckeye.
ReplyDeleteAwww...Grammy who cooks and bakes and catches flying girls- she sounds great! When can she come to my house?
ReplyDeleteOMG, buckeyes. I just licked my screen.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that you get along so well with your mother-in-law!
Heh, heh, must be a two year old thing. My mother visited yesterday. My 2 year old gave her the evil eye for a while. When Dora finished she pounced on my mother. We all thought she was going to bite her, but she gave grandma a bear hug. Random.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a clue what a buckeye is, but it looks tasty. What is it????
ReplyDeleteLucky you! Why doesn't my mother in law come cook for me?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hunger for PB and Chocolate! tasty tasty tasty. Your little one is adorable.
ReplyDeleteAwww! thats nice that you got to spend time with you mom in law and cook some things. Ritz crackers with choc is a great idea. Your daughter is such a cutie! Its funny, Lealu does the same thing with new people, lol, she'll like look at you and give you a stare and then if you get too close too fast, she goes to nip at you!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter how sad they look...they look delicious. Chocolate and PB can never be bad:) Glad you had such a great time with Grandma.
ReplyDeleteGrandmas are da bomb.
ReplyDeleteI have a 2 year old who is the same way about warming up to people. When my cosin used to come over he would stand in the hallway and watch her. It took close to a month before he decided she could look at him, then another few weeks before he would let her touch him.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what they think in their little heads.
Awwww! Those were great pictures. It is nice to see the truly happy expressions on everyone's face.
ReplyDeleteThe sad buckeye's still look good but I have no idea what they are. What is in a Sad Buckeye??
Thanks for sharing the story. It definitely brought a smile to my face.
A MIL who cooks and bakes and makes yummy chocolate goodies? Do you rent her out by any chance? *sigh*
ReplyDeleteIt's also great that y'all got to spend time with Grandma. We love when we get to spend time like that as a family too:)
