We just got back from a wonderful vacation at Port Aransas. It's a beach town about 40 minutes from Corpus Christi. We've been going for a few years now and it's always a fun spot to visit. We live in San Antonio and it takes about 3 hours to get there, so the drive isn't terrible.
If you plan on heading to Port Aransas this summer, I have ideas on what to do.
1. Create drip castles on the beach. My son loves to make these and he always gets compliments from people walking by. They are easy to make and look awesome.
2. Dine at Venetian Hot Plate. It's run by a husband and wife and there are limited tables, so reservations are a must. The food is spectacular and the seafood is always fresh.
3. Check out the Horace Caldwell Pier to get fabulous sunset pics. It does cost money, but it's only $3 a person. You can also fish from it.
4. Ride a horse on the beach at Horses On The Beach. They rescue horses and take you on a spectacular ride along the water. Yes, kids can do it too! I believe the age starts at 8.
5. Stop by Island Bakery and pick up a cruffin. It is a croissant and muffin rolled into one. Cinnamony, flaky, and downright delicious. Not your taste? There are other options as well but I was a huge fan.
6. Craving Bar-b-que? Pick up some grub at MacDaddy's Family Kitchen! There are all sorts of amazing choices. I usually go for the 2 meat plate. I got the brisket, the jalapeno sausage, with mac & cheese and jalapeno cream corn. The menu is impressive.
7. Take a pic in the shark mouth. There are several around town.
8. Visit Gratitude, the coolest store on the island. It's tiny but there's so many eclectic items inside. Plus the owner is friendly. From fridge magnets, to pins, to bumper stickers, this store has something for everyone. If you love Marilyn Monroe, you'll find her around the store.
9. Take a trip to Corpus Christi and visit the Texas State Aquarium. It's worth it and yes, there is a military discount.
10. After the Texas State Aquarium, eat at Blackbeard's. Located less than 5 minutes away, it's known to be haunted. The decor is fabulous and the food is delicious. Fresh seafood and a fun atmosphere! Not into seafood? They have other options as well. Natalie's boyfriend raved about their Aloha Burger.
Port Aransas has that charming small town vibe. If you have a question, the locals are there to answer. If seafood is your fave, it's all fresh. There's even more to do than what I listed, but it's some of our must do stops whenever we visit.
Which one of these activities would you do first?
