New Years Poppers

The kids had fun with their poppers on New Years Eve.

And then I sent them to bed at their regular time.

Was that mean of me? I kept hearing how parents were letting their kids stay up and the thought of having mine around me for an added couple of hours made me cringe. Perhaps if Tom had been home I’d have allowed it since they seem to listen to him more than me. As it was, he had to work and I wanted to be able to watch television in peace.

Natalie was ready to go to bed anyway. She had thrown a gigantic fit earlier when I put all the Christmas decorations away.

“I love him!” she yelped, gripping onto the Christmas bear. “I love these!” She ran a hand dramatically over the pile of Christmas books.

“You’ll see them all next year,” I promised. Do you know how hard it is putting things away when a child is attached to them? I eventually was able to distract her with Swiss Roll cakes. While she munched on those, I finished putting everything away.

I did not drink alcohol on New Years Eve. No, instead I sipped on the slushie that Tom dropped off because I’m basically like a ten-year-old.

When midnight rolled around I did not get a kiss because Tom was at work and was arresting someone at that very moment...

...which is why he came into the house at 1220 and there we shared a late New Years kiss.

So how was your New Years?

  1. I would have sent my kid to bed at normal time when he was your kids age. Now that he's older, I probably would have let him stay up until he annoyed me. Its NOT mean to send them to bed. Beats having miserable kids all the next day.

    Happy New Year!

  2. My kids unfortunately have caught on to the whole 'staying up until midnight' fun and actually did. It was o.k. though because they didn't wake up until 9:30 the next morning.

  5. We let ours stay up a little later than normal but I had my husband home to help. If I was married to a shift worker and he happened to be working my kids would have totally been in bed at the regular time :)

  7. That was soooo NOT mean. I sent our kids to bed at the regular time and we were all the better for it. I can't imagine the mess if my kids stayed up till midnight....

I went to bed around 10:00 after watching a few Walking Dead shows I DVR'ed. Bliss!

We had the 3 Grandsons(8 5 and 2), and they were in bed at regular time, the 2 oldest whined that Daddy said they could party with Grandma and Grandpa..well Grandma and Grandpa didnt want the noise, the crankiness not just waiting for midnite, but Sunday morning while they waited for thier parents to pick them up.

  9. My parents wanted to have our girls over to celebrate with them so my husband and I went out to a tapas bar, ate some great food, had a couple drinks and were home and on the couch watching movies by 8:00PM. It was one of my most favorite celebrations yet!
    Happy New Year!!

  10. My daughter is younger than your kids, but she went to sleep at her normal time. I probably won't let her stay up until midnight until she is much, much older.

I like the Swiss Cake Roll idea. I had to strap my daughter into her high chair and bribe her with yogurt so I could dismantle the tree.

  14. We did go to a party and let Annabelle stay up. Overall she did well, but it will not be a regular occurance. NYE is easier without kids.

  16. I've heard that the New Year's kiss counts, as long as it happens sometime on January 1st. So you're good.

  17. You're not mean - I would have, as well. I didn't drink either - sipping tea like the grannie I seem to have become against my will. Yikes - need to start acting my age - or younger :-) Happy New Year!

  19. Our New Year's eve was about as romantic. I had worked in the ER all day that day and had to get up at the crack 0' dawn to do it again.

No, I let my kids stay up once when they were little........worst ever.
    They were beasts.

I enjoyed my New Year's Eves after that.

  20. We watched the ball drop in NYC which was 11:00pm our time and then I put the boys in bed. They had to go back to school today so we needed to be on some sort of schedule.

  24. Not mean AT ALL. I've got a kid who stayed up last year on her dad's watch. This year, I got to witness my not-yet-7 yr. old stay up until past 1. (There were beds standing by, but she didn't make use of them.) And she got up by herself at 8. If I hadn't given birth to her, I'd swear she wasn't mine. But if I were alone, you know she'd have been in bed regular time.

  25. My uncle had a fake countdown for his granddaughter complete with a new year kiss hours earlier than midnight.

I was in bed by 10:30. That is how celebrate - staying up an extra hour.
