Book Zak Bagans Scared My Daughter

“Ahhhh! Ahhh! He’s scary!” Natalie shrieked diving under the covers.

“Zak Bagans says to listen to your mother. Zak Bagans thinks you need to be nicer to her,” I said, waving the book around.

Confused?

Well, I got a book about ghosts from the library. It was written by Zak Bagans, and yes, some of you might recall that he has a show called Ghost Adventures on The Travel Channel. (Which is very interesting. I do believe in ghosts.)

Anyway, the cover looks like this:

Kinda creepy, huh?

I personally like the top hat.

Natalie likes nothing about it.

“Why does that man look so SCARY?” she asked when she first saw the book. And then she hid and was like, “I don’t like him!”

Then I had an idea: maybe show her the book when she didn’t listen. She doesn’t listen a lot since Tom deployed. She loves to make him happy. Me? Not so much. She seems to find it amusing when I get to my wit’s end.

This is why I had some fun making the book pop up. It might have even ended up in her seat when she refused to listen to me.

“Why is this scary man HERE?” Natalie shouted, shoving the book off her chair.

“He heard you didn’t listen when I asked you to clean up,” I explained. Look, when my husband is gone, I need to turn to odd ideas to enforce the rules. Some people might be all, “Oh, this can damage a child’s psyche,” but I’m not into the new age parenting crap.

For a few blissful hours, Natalie behaved, lest she upset the scary man in the top hat.

But then, when I brought it out because she proclaimed that she would not eat dinner, she sniffed and was like, “That is PRETEND.”

Oh, come ON!

I was even considering buying my own copy of the book if it got her to eat her peas.

But no.

Dang it.

  3. Your daughter is very clever that cannot be easily fooled LOL. Hey whatever works to get your child to do what they are supposed to do. I too am not into this new age parenting despite I am not a parent myself.

  4. Hey I been reading you for years on OD but I do not write on there anymore, so I read you here, and saved your diary on my bookmarks. I don't write on blogger myself but I do have an account on there( I think). I do write on bloop though regularly. Anyways, just wanted to say I enjoy reading you, and congrats on getting your book published. Is it also available in Canada?

  5. You gotta do what you gotta do! At house the seasonal beings help out. In February: "Cupid can't bring you Valentine treats if you don't put your clothes in the hamper!"
In March: "The Leprechauns will take all your toys of you leave them out on the floor like that!"
In April, it's the Easter Bunny.

  6. My Mum used to threaten to sell me to the gypsies (there were some camped nearby) if I didn't behave. I grew up reasonably stable. I think it's pretty funny.
