My daughter loves Disney Princesses.
She even had a Merida birthday party.
So I was a little miffed when I read this article
If you don’t want to read it, basically they want to change Merida’s appearance:
It might only be a cartoon character, but NO! NO! NO!
She looks fine the way she is. My daughter loves her the way she is. She loves that Merida is a bit of a tomboy. (Although yes, she would adore the sparkling dress that the “new” Merida has on. She loves anything that sparkles. She and Liberache would have been best friends.)
I get because she’s an official Disney Princess that she has to match up with the other princesses—actually, you know what, I don’t get it. Why does everyone have to look the same? Why can’t one stand out? I like old Merida’s round eyes. I like old Merida’s impish grin. I’d prefer if they kept the “real” Merida.
Anyway, guess what? Right as I was about to post this, I found an article that shows that Disney listened to those who complained!
That’s fantastic! Thank you, Disney! Yay for keeping the real Merida!

Whewww, I am glad they did. The 'old' Merida is definitely more my kind of princess :)
ReplyDeleteYeah! I'm glad they listened!! Have you seen this? http://fstoplounge.com/2013/05/real-women-forget-the-disney-princesses/
ReplyDeleteThis mom/photographer found some really awesome for her daughter to model as for pictures.
I'm glad they kept the old Merida, too. I hate that all the princesses have to be so "perfect". Seriously?
ReplyDeleteI love the old Merida look - don't get me wrong, I understand the whole Disney branding attempt but in a world where there is so much focus on body image - a positive one like Merida is a good one! If the goal was to create an animated look of her so that it fits in with the others for the web-site, they could have still pulled it off with the old look instead of the new look...glad they listened.
ReplyDeleteGood for Disney.
ReplyDeleteWe really don't need more scantily clad cartoons cleavage.
I'm glad they pulled the revamp, that was ridiculous! I didn't realize they changed it back until I read your post, thanks for the update!
ReplyDeleteI ran across that article yesterday and couldn't believe they would want to change Merida's look! I love the old look too, and I am glad that they listened to all of the complaints.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they pulled her! Princesses come in all shapes and sizes and personalities.
ReplyDeleteI was glad they listened to their fans and stopped the change. I like that Merida looks different than the other princesses.
ReplyDeleteGood timing that you wrote this today and they announced it today. I like to think they're listening to YOU. It's a great movie and we love it a lot and I think it would greatly confuse my daughter and all of the other little kids who have grown to know and love THIS girl as she is. WTF, Disney?
ReplyDeleteIt was so great hearing that they switched Merida back!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad they listened and changed her back. That was ridiculous. It's nice to know that they listen to the feedback and that it means something to them. --the Dose Girls
ReplyDeleteThe new one looks kind of odd anyway. The old one definitely looks like something my girls would also like better.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they can just give her a sparkly dress? For Natalie's sake :)
ReplyDeleteI misread the title as "Changing Marena." Bahahaha!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they didn't change her either...I love that she has a bow and arrow of her own!
ReplyDeleteI never thought the new Merida they wanted to go with really "fit" with the movie Brave. Does that make sense? This whole thing has had me rolling my eyes.
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy! I hadn't even heard that but glad Disney listened!
