Tiny kids in caps and gowns are adorable.
I’ve seen lots of pictures on blogs and Facebook of kids in tiny caps and gowns for Kindergarten graduation. First I go, “Aw.” Then I’m like, “No fair! Why didn’t my kids get a Kindergarten graduation?”
When my son finished Kindergarten there was nothing.
When my daughter finished Kindergarten there was nothing.
I wished we had a ceremony. Yes, it might seem silly—they only finished Kindergarten. But guys? Tiny caps and GOWNS.
Oh well.
I guess I’ll admire other people’s pictures.
Does your school do a Kindergarten graduation?

This Kindergarten graduation ceremony is really starting to catch on. Shelby graduated last year and while I was wishing for caps & gowns, she did look cute with the black construction paper cap her class had made. Lucas just graduated pre-school and that is the ceremony I was surprised at - his pre-school went all out with the caps & gowns + giving each kid a year book that they put together through shutter fly
ReplyDeletenope. And my kids' school is the only one in the district to boot!! Every other elem school does it.
ReplyDeleteNone of my kids had a kindergarten graduation. We only had the "graduation" from the pre-school program and that was at only 2 schools - the other kids were screwed out of the honor in their schools so yes, I'm with you - why do some schools just have to be Kindergarten Graduation Scrooges?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, but we do have a preschool graduation. My daughter is only in her first year but we'll go to support her classmates going to kindergarten. And she'll have a graduation next year. Tiny kids in caps and gowns in a photographic dream.
ReplyDeleteAww, that's a bummer! I remember a graduation when I was little. I'm not sure if it was a preschool or kindergarten ceremony. But I definitely remember feeling really accomplished and grown up because I got to graduate like the big kids.
ReplyDeleteNo, and it bugs me, too! In fact, not only do we not have graduation ... we don't even have school programs! No Christmas program, no plays, no musical specials, NOTHING. It's kinda disappointing.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, we don't have Kindergarten graduation around here either. My kids had pre-school graduations though. I worked there and we owned a cap and gown set, so I made sure to dress my own kids up for a photo op!
ReplyDeleteI remember my own Kindergarten graduation... and pre-school one for that matter.
ReplyDeleteI suspect you could always get the cap and gown and "fake it." :)
I remember having a preschool and Kindergarten graduation when I was little. I had a little tissue paper hat for both and that was in the late 70's early 80's. My DD had a Kindergarten graduation last year only because she went to a private school. Her teacher went all out. Now that she's in public school, they don't do anything. Kindergarteners don't graduate, we don't celebrate holidays so as not to offend anyone :-(
ReplyDeleteYes, why not a 'do it yourself' one? Get some other parents together and you can all have a ceremony in somebody's back yard with caps and gowns, then go to Chuck E Cheese!
ReplyDeleteI personally think those graduations are silly ;) But that's just me. They DO look super cute...
ReplyDeleteI may be the lone ranger, but I am a little tired of all the graduations. I have two to attend on the last day of school (at two different schools at the exact same time mind you...), one for my 12-yo and for the 15-yo. I am all for a class party, but I just think graduation should be left for seniors.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add about my daughter's k-graduation last year: what was really strange was that her graduation took place like a week before the school year even ended. It was like, what the heck? And it was only class to class all on separate days. I wonder if other schools do that too
ReplyDeleteMine didn't have a kindergarten graduation either. But he did have a pre-school to kindergarten graduation that I MISSED because of some stupid administrative snafu and they forgot to tell me about it. That was what? Fifteen years ago and I'm still pretty upset about it.
ReplyDeleteI don't have kids on kindergarten, but I remember my little sister had one. I never had one, and I was jealous!
ReplyDeleteI had a kindergarten graduation - I thought every school still had them!! Tiny caps and gowns - love them.
ReplyDeleteMine had a little classroom ceremony. No teeny caps and gowns, though. Construction paper maybe? It was very sweet. And all the (other) non-cold-hearted moms were in tears.
ReplyDeleteMy grandson graduated kindergarten in a cap and gown last year. It was totally adorable. Natalie (and you) was robbed! Yep, you got it-- You was robbed!
ReplyDeleteSeriously! Tiny caps and gowns!! What's not to love!!! :) (My kids didn't have a kindergarten graduation either...rats!!) --Lisa
ReplyDeleteSince we're new to this area, I don't know if they have kindergarten graduation, but I suspect not, since it's public school. Those pictures always are super cute, though.
ReplyDeleteSaw this and thought of your post ... lol

I know! I keep meaning to get my son's preschool gown out to see if they can wear it and I can get a picture. I need something to put next to his high school picture at his high school graduation party :) My oldest never even had a preschool one.
ReplyDeleteWe had graduation when I was in kindergarten. It was a BIG deal. kindergarten and 8th grade graduated together. And the whole freaking town was there! There were probably just as many people at my kindergarten graduation as there were at my high school graduation. We'll move before my kids start kindergarten. Maybe I should pick the school they attend based on if they get to wear caps and gowns... ;)
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have a kindergarten graduation either. "Graduation" around here happens when they finish preschool and get to go to the "big kid" school.
ReplyDeleteno, but we did do a 5th grade graduation and an 8th grade graduation. no caps or gowns though
