Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Canceled Shows (Like Bunheads!)

Bunheads has been canceled.

Some of you might be like, “Huh? What’s that?”

It was a fabulous show on ABC Family about ballet dancers and their awesome teacher. Even better, it was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino.

“Who is that?” you might be asking.

She’s the creator of Gilmore Girls, one of my favorite shows.

I liked Bunheads. Not as much as Gilmore Girls, but it had the same quirky lines and yes, actors from Gilmore Girls would pop up and make an appearance. They even had the “la la la” music! Some people will argue that it was trying too hard to be Gilmore Girls but I don’t agree, the show had its own focus.

I’m tired of shows I enjoy getting canned while reality nonsense like Honey Boo Boo remains. I’d like to hope people would prefer content than crap. Yes, I watch reality shows but I’d much prefer to get invested in characters and story lines. Networks give up on shows too easily these days. Do you know Full House had awful numbers the first season but as the show went on it got more and more popular? Had it aired today, it would have been canceled after the first year. We’d have never gotten to see Michelle grow up. The horror!

I’ve tweeted my outrage on Bunheads being canceled. If you enjoyed the show, please do the same. Social media has brought shows back before. (Drop Dead Diva, for example.) You can also go to their Facebook page here.

If you have no idea what Bunheads is, you can watch full episodes here.

I’m bummed.

It’s why I almost hesitate watching new shows in fear that they’ll be canceled these days. (I’m also upset that Smash was canceled.)

Boo, networks.

Oh, and someone also posted ways you can help save Bunheads here.

  1. I felt the same way about "Missing" (with Ashley Judd). Such a great show! They cancelled it after one episode.

  3. I feel the same way! It drives me bonkers how they cancel the best shows. One of my favorites was The Playboy Club, and they cancelled it after one season. I was livid! There have been others like Undercovers that were cancelled too early :(

  5. I hate it when that happens, you get totally invested and then boom, all 'those people' that you care about is just gone.

  6. Do you remember that show Joan of Arcadia with Amber Tamblyn? My husband and I really liked that show, but it only ran for two seasons. I'm not really sure why they cancelled it. :(

  10. Seeing the list of tv shows that have been cancelled in the past and suddenly Firefly comes to mind. But Fox did crap in the way they did the show. I loved watching Bunheads but missed a lot of episodes (mostly because our channels are usually on Disney through Nickelodeon). It's a shame for the show being cancelled and I will check out the link you have posted to see what I can do as a fan of the show to help.

  11. I'm so shocked to read this because I love ballet so I watched Bunheads and really enjoyed it, but never met anyone else who watched it. I hope they do reconsider, it was a great show.

  13. Noooo! I didn't know Amy Sherman-Palladino was behind it and now it's too late to watch. I am going to drown my sorrows by watching my entire DVD Gilmore collection from start to finish.

  14. There are ALOT of new shows coming out this fall. I don't think I remember this many new ones at one time. I hope that at least one or two of them make it. I'm tired of reality crap.
