Do I Have To Share My Shamrock Shake?

The delicious nectar filled my mouth.

Ahh, I've missed you, I thought as I swallowed. I've missed you.

I didn't care that it was green. The health nuts would balk at the color and say, "That's just as bad as the neon orange of the fake mac and cheese from Kraft." (And when I say health nuts, I don't mean that in a rude way. Many of my friends are health nuts and ask me daily, "How can you eat that?")

Mmmm.

Fake mac and cheese from Kraft. That actually sounded tasty..

"Welcome back," I said to my delicious shake.

It was the Shamrock Shake from McDonalds.

I get one every year it returns. It's only around for about two months.

"Can I have some?" Natalie asked.

What? WHAT?

"Sorry, Mommy doesn't share this," I answered.

She puffed her lip out. "Sharing is important. You tell me all the time I have to share. Sharing is CARING! Sharing--"

Would she ever hush? I wanted to take my Shamrock Shake and curl up with a book.

"Here. ONE SIP," I said, handing it over.

She took a sip and made a face. "This tastes like my toothpaste."

Toothpaste, indeed.

Still, it meant she didn't want more.

And yes, I know the health nuts are like, "You shouldn't drink things that contain things you cannot pronounce in it," or, "Don't drink your calories," but I'm sorry, it's a SHAMROCK SHAKE!

(And also, have you SEEN my pantry? It's filled with "fruit" snacks, Little Debbie snacks, and Pop Tarts (the ones with the frosting, naturally. Have you SEEN my blog? I frequently write about the junk food I've consumed. I just wrote about the new Oreos, for goodness sakes!)

Welcome back, Shamrock Shakes.

  2. Don't freak out and rock in the corner, but I don't think I have ever tried one. Needless to say, I will remedy that today! ;)-Ashley

  3. That's actually one tidbit of junk food I'm NOT on board with ... I can't stand anything minty. I barely even tolerate toothpaste. ;)

  4. Ok. I love you. I often eat things that my healthy friends are like DONT DO IT!!! You'll get fat and die. But little Debbie cakes are worth it to me. Also? I'm buying your book right now. Happy Wednesday

  7. Have you seen the new Chips Ahoy cookies? They are ice cream inspired. I saw root beer float, and dulce de leche. I thought about trying them, but decided to wait for you to tell me if they were any good first.

  8. We own a certified organic beef, pork and dairy farm. I make all my own soap and cleansers. We don't own a microwave. ...and I would KILL for a fake green shake. I would use it to wash down a big fat gooey Suzy Q. Yes I would.

  10. Can you believe I have never had a shamrock shake? Crazy right? Now the nearest McD's is 20 minutes away so I doubt I'll have one.

  11. HaHa!! So glad that Natalie didn't like it - more for you!! I would give you mine if I lived closer - not because I'm a health nut but because I don't like shakes (too milky for me).

  12. I have actually never had a Shamrock Shake, but I see so many people who are excited when they come back! I'm always excited when Starbucks brings back the red holiday cups. That's my "Shamrock Shake" : )

  13. I hate milkshakes. I hate fakey tasting things. But every year, as soon as we hit March, I get one small Shamrock shake, and I sit in my car and enjoy it alone.

    The End.

  14. I've never had one! Everyone makes them seem like heaven on Earth though. Mint flavored?

  15. I need to stop and get myself one of these. I can't believe I've never tried one before. Whenever I think I'm going to get one, I'm always to late and they aren't selling them anymore. I also don't like seasonal things, because then if I love it I have to wait too long! :)

  16. Regarding all that stuff that's bad for you... At least you'll die happy, right? ;-)

  17. I thought it was good for you- don't all those health food people go on and on about eating green things and drinking smoothies and shakes?

  18. Our local McDonald's has signs up in May or so that say, "Yup! We still have them."
And people know that that means. They don't even have to be specific!

  19. I detest having to share my favorite foods with ANYONE! But sometimes the kids are so PERSISTANT about it! So sometimes I have to say, ok, one small teensy sip or bite but that's it. This is mommy's special snack. lol

  20. I've already had like 3 since the beginning of Feb. I plan on getting at least 1 more before they are gone. I do like them with no whip cream. I feel like it's a little healthier.

  21. I've never had one but glad you are finding enjoyment in them :). Even more glad you don't have to share with your daughter. We all need our guilty pleasures.

  25. My mom looks forward to this arriving every year.

  26. Ummmmm how did I not realize this???? I allow myself one a year and it's worth every precious green calorie :-)

  27. I love these and my kids hate them- they won't eat anything mint, so I get to enjoy the whole thing myself.

  28. Hmmm, I've never had one, but I don't really like sweet drinks. Might stick to my Diet Coke. All the more for you, huh.

  29. Bahahahaha... that first sentence cracked me up. I'm not much of a mint fan myself but it does look pretty, I'll give it that!

  30. I tried it once, but I was not a big fan. I keep my milkshakes to the ones from In N Out. I added your button to my blog - www.himandme.org

  31. It's the best part when your kid doesn't like it!

    ReplyDelete
  32. We're big fans at our house, too!

    So. Good!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your posts are great at making me laugh! I've never tried the Shamrock Shake but I've wanted to :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm totally getting one too. It's only once per year - ya have to live a little. right?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I know a lot of people that are always excited when the Shamrock Shake comes back around. I'm not one of them people but it's not for health reasons. I don't care for the taste.
Junk food though, count me in!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Surely health nuts should live it, green smoothies are all the rage aren't they? LOL

  37. I don't love these so much, but Sonic used to have this thing called a Sweetheart Shake. I mourn it's passing, and think of it often.

  38. I'm a self proclaimed ridiculous health nut that would drive you crazy, but I have a shamrock shake every year. :-)

  39. Mmmm I want one! I was always in the musicals in high school and our show was always at the time that these came out, and signing and shakes don't really work so they were forbidden... but we all still totally snuck out during long practices and got them.

  40. I didn't even know such a thing existed! And ya know, sometimes a little junk is JUST what your body needs. I think this baby is going to come out looking like an animal cookie. Not that that's that junkie in the grand scheme of things, but I've still had a lot.

  41. To this day I have still yet to try a Shamrock shake. Every year I say I am going to try one because my friends all keep telling me I would love them... but I never seem to get one before they are gone. Maybe this year will be the year!

  42. I've never had a Shamrock Shake...but would like to try one...I don't think they were available in Canada last year =(

  43. I prefer the plain chocolate shakes from McDonalds, but the shamrock shakes are awesome! Too bad they are only seasonal!
