8 Reasons Why I'm Glad The Kids Went Back To School

It's back to school time!

And believe me, I was ready. I love my kids to bits, but here are the reasons why I'm glad they're back at school.

------------

1. I don't have to listen to them complain about lunches. I'd make sandwiches and set them down and the kids would sometimes be like, "We don't want this." Now I can make lunches, pack it in their bags, and if they don't like it, I don't have to hear it. Their friends and teachers do.

2. No more playing Barbies! Natalie wants me to play Barbies with her daily. Right when I wake up. Suddenly a plastic doll is shoved in my hand and Natalie will be like, "This is Brenda and she's upset with Ken right now!"

3. I can walk wherever I want in the house. This probably sounds weird, but Natalie will say things like "you can't step there due to lava. You can't step in that corner because sharks live there right now."

4. I love my son to bits and I'm glad he's open, but hearing this a lot: "I have new hairs down there! Puberty is happening!" could be very shocking before I had my caffeine.

5. I can talk on the phone interrupted. This seems to be when Natalie wants to ask all the questions in her head: ""Do we drink Brita water?", "Why can't you grow plants?" and, "Can you play Barbies with me?" I can also have a PIP (poop in peace.) I no longer have an audience when I go, but I do have questions asked outside the door. For some reason the second I start to go, questions must be answered right then and there. "Mommy? Can you play Barbies with me?" "Mommy? Why don't I like olives but my Daddy does?" and, "Mommy? Ariana Grande does NOT sound like a dying animal when she sings. Why do you always say that to me? It's rude!"

6. I no longer have to be confused when Natalie is like, "I need some marzipan." I asked where she learned that word and she was all, "My Little Pony!" And it's especially fun when she acts like Pinky Pie. She'll suddenly yell, "OH MY GOSH!" which always freaks me out so I shout, "What the hell is going on?" and she's all, "I'm PINKY PIE and HELL is not a friendly word!" Well, don't scare me when I'm trying to read!

7. I don't have to hear Tommy rant about why he has to be 13 for everything online. Facebook. Instagram. YouTube. "It's not fair. I'm 12. I'm mature. I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING ONLINE! And why are people under 13 on there? How is that fair? Why are their parents letting their kids lie? WHY DO I HAVE TO BE 13?"

8. No more hearing Stampy Minecraft videos. "HELLO, this is Stampy!" Natalie will then talk all about them and be like, "And now there's Esther," and I'm all, "WHO is Esther?" (A chicken, I think..)

----

Now, mind you, I might have to witness these things when they are home. But it won't be so bad, because it's not all day.

So if you have kids, are you happy that they've gone Back To School?

  1. I'm still getting used to the idea of my daughter going to school but that means that for two hours while she is there there will be no sibling bickering so I guess that's a plus!

  4. HAHA! These are hilarious. #4 might take some getting used to if you've just gotten up!
And I love the thought of them complaining about their sandwiches to teachers and friends! Probably, they don't.
I know all about lava pits in the house!

  5. Oh my gosh, your boy's going through puberty and wanting social media accounts?!? This is crazy! LOL on your daughter not allowing you to step in certain places. Oh kids!

  6. Our 7 years olds are basically identical. It makes me feel so much better when you say she bugs you because I feel less guilty for thinking that about my kid, too.

The #1 thing that makes me glad for school: silence on demand. My daughter talks. All. The. Time. She literally fills every minute with noise and sometimes, I just like quiet. I need quiet.

And I don't mind Ariana Grande's voice. Her songs are horrendous but she can sing. Demi Lovato, on the other hand? Someone needs to shut her up.

  7. As a working mom, there's no difference for me. However, I'm glad they're in a routine and not home with a sitter or bored all day long. They like school. I'm excited for my youngest to start soon. She's in the early phases of asking me to play dolls with her. LOL!

  13. The stuff your kids say is SO funny! It always makes me smile to read your posts. I'm so tired of the teenagers saying "there's nothing to eat in this house" when the fridge and pantry are FULL!

  14. I am going crazy just reading this, so you have a lot of patience! I'm glad you get a break.

  15. Haha pooping with an audience got me. I am lucky because she can not open the door on her own which i always remember when it is number 2, but usually when i go to pee i forget to make the door click, so she will push it open and with an enthusiasm i can not comprehend she yells peeee!

  16. Amen to all of this!!!!!!!! I'm really excited that someone gets paid to entertain my daughter all day. I was starting to run out of ideas!

  17. Heck yes. Heck yes I am happy.

HAHA the "what the hell!" thing happened daily with me. It still picks up around 4PM, without fail. I'll get a kid screaming bloody murder and another one just casually standing there, holding the toy way above the other kid's head. "What the hell!" is as common as breathing around here.

I like less "what the hell"s. That works better for me. So yes, absolutely, school is like heaven.

  19. Yes, it's so nice to poop in peace. haha. My daughter wants me to play school with her 24 hrs a day. I just love peace & quiet, being able to think without a 7 year old talking non-stop & actually being able to get things done.

  22. Hilarious! Your kids are too funny. I was actually giggling when I read this. It is nice to have a little peace and quiet. My boys would not have dreamed of telling me anything that was going on with them like that! I get things like "can you make me guacamole?" "there is nothing in this house to eat!" And the other day they were arguing over how much rent we would charge them if they came back to live with us after college? Seriously?!!

  23. LOL! Just another day in mom life. At least you always have the weekends!

For now I'm still locking my toddler in the bathroom with me. I can't wait for the day I'm able to lock him OUT instead!

  24. The barbie play would slowly kill me. My niece always wants to play make believe games that involve dolls and tea...it's not my thing
