A League Of Their Own Halloween Costumes

So what are your kids going to be for Halloween?

Or if you don't have kids, what are YOU going to be?

Natalie wanted to be a princess at first. But she's been there, done that.

Then I showed her the movie A League Of Their Own. "Wouldn't it be awesome to be one of those baseball players?"

You guys might have read about the drama I had in getting a costume done on Etsy. It all worked out on the end. An awesome lady helped us out and made one. She also made Tommy's jersey.

Tommy's all, "I really don't like touching her."

I love, love, love the movie A League of Their Own. There are so many fabulous lines. Yes, there's the no crying in baseball one. But I also like when Jon Lovitz says, "Hey cow girls, see the grass? Don't eat it." And when Tom Hanks shrieks, "Who's Lou?" But one of my absolute favorites is when Tom Hanks says to Dottie: "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't so hard, everyone would do it. The hard...is what makes it great." I always think of this when I'm writing.

I took the kids to a baseball field on base. It's a pretty crappy baseball field, but you know, it did the job.

I had Tommy lay out like Tom Hanks. I did not have him scratch his balls because...well, ew.

Natalie discovered that she really likes playing baseball and wants me to sign her up.

Here's Natalie pulling a Marla Hooch:

I had shown Tommy the clip where Tom Hanks does his famous line. So Tommy was like, "Evelyn! Evelyn!"

"There's no crying in baseball!"

(Although Tommy wanted me to remind you all that playing sports is supposed to be FUN. There's no real need for shouting. He does not like when people shout at him.)

I'd like to think Natalie was portraying Dottie.

But here she sort of reminds me of All The Way Mae:

Tommy being unimpressed:

I found a foam ball that Natalie could play with. She loved hitting it.

Tommy was unimpressed. Again:

And then I had Natalie try to do the Geena Davis split catch:

So these are our Halloween costumes this year. I love them.

And I had to do these lines from Dottie and Kit with Natalie:

Do you like A League of Their Own?
