5 Reasons Why I Don't Like Going To Public Pools

Look, I'm not one of those germaphobes who carry around hand sanitizer at all times.

But public pools freak me out, yo.

I say that, but I still go to public pools because we can't afford one of our own. It's a way for my daughter to help get rid of her unending energy. Plus we pay HOA dues, and part of that goes towards the pool, so dang it, we're going to the pool!

But they still freak me out.

And here's why.

1. People pee in the pool.

They say they don't, but you know they do. I imagine kids happily empty their bladders with no guilt.

2. You wonder how well people wipe after they go #2.

I mean. Yuck. If they don't wipe well, that residue will end up in the pool. Plus, those swim diapers don't exactly contain EVERYTHING.

3. Constant spitting.

You know when people go under water, come up, and then spit out the water in their mouth? You're basically swimming in someone else's saliva.

4. Farts.

I once watched a group of kids fart happily in the pool, laughing at the bubbles that would come up to the surface. Normally I find farts hilarious. But not in a public pool. I don't want to swim around in your scent, thanks.

5. You don't know how clean a person is before they enter the pool.

I've heard parents say, "This is your bath today!" Well, how long has it been since the last bath? How much filth is on Junior's body? And why would you allow a pool to be the bath?! Look above and see how much YUCK is in a pool.

I go to the pool because my daughter loves it.

And I just try not to think about what she's swimming in.

  2. I hate public pools too! So gross. I will go occasionally (like once a year), but that's enough for me.

  3. baths?! That is disgusting seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Ugh! Public pools should never be their bath for the day! Gross!

  5. I hate the public pool because it's so crowded. It's like wall to wall people in there! You can't even swim, just walk around bumping into each other. Also, I don't feel safe taking three kids to the pool by myself. We usually play in the hose in the front yard. And *that* does count as their bath for the week!! LOL

  6. *shudders* I cringed the entire time reading this. Blech!! Lol

  7. We go to our community's pool and I'm hoping the chlorine kills everything. I mean, come on, my daughter is 2 years old, not potty trained, and swim diapers don't hold anything in them, so....sorry to the folks around me.

  8. Your parent's pool looks wonderful!
I'm certain I've peed in a pool, or two, before.
I've certainly peed in the ocean - aka - the world's biggest toilet!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I can't even let myself think about these things or I'd never enter a pool again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I loved pools before this post! LOL But you are totally right. I've heard people say that they just hose their kids off instead of baths...and now, I'm not entirely sure they're joking!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I hadn't thought of some of the grossness you mentioned... thanks. Luckily I don't do pools often.
At least for now you can have wine by the pool.. enjoy

  12. Eww, but you're completely right. Where we live, we have a (crappy) neighborhood pool. The other day, in broad daylight, two teenagers were having sex in it. With small children around them, they were doing it. Now all I can imagine is THAT (you know what I mean) floating around in the pool. Needless to say, we have not been back to the pool, and I'm looking into buying a kiddie pool from Target.

  14. I honestly just try not to think about it! I recently read somewhere that the irritation your eyes feel after being in a public pool isn't from the chlorine - it's from the other icky stuff. Hope you're having fun in Texas!

  15. This is hilarious... Since you put it that way... EWWW!! Here's to hoping I can have my own pool one day!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. oh lord I never thought about that. But the chlorine should kill the germs...or at least thats what I'm going to tell myself

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thank god for chlorine bleach!!

  18. Ugh!!!!!

We don't have a pool nor go to the public one. Both for the reasons you wrote. We can't afford one and don't own our home, and two, gross people!

  19. Ha! I even feel the same way about hot tubs. Hot tubs are People Soup. I don't want anyone else's molecules :)

  20. I work for a pool company. I'm no longer a fan of public pools. People do some nasty shit in pools.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I bought pool passes for my kids and me this year. I absolutely hate going but need to get my money's worth. Next year I am investing in a good sprinkler system for our yard instead!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I used to love swimming when I was a kid and public pools were the only option. I'm so glad I didn't think about any of these things back then, but I definitely think about them now!

    ReplyDelete
  23. OMG. I am never going to a public pool ever again. Thank you. Although they are all good reasons ahah xx corinne

  24. All of this just reminded me of my childhood. I hated going to the public pool for all of these reasons and my parents thought I was crazy. Glad I wasn't alone.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hahahaha all of this is true. It is like taking one big bath with your neighbors. Ah well. This is why I always shower after I swim in one.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hahaha. I thought i was the only one that was a fan of public pools. I think all my friends think I am crazy for not wanting to be in a pool all day.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Omg I have the heebie jeebies now hahaha I'm never swimming again!

  29. I know what you mean, but it's great that she's getting to enjoy a neighborhood attraction. Just take a good shower after :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Which is worse the public pool or the public bathroom? I go to the pool because we have HOA dues and it pays for the pool. Yes, I'm sure people pee in the pool, but I look forward to swimming in the lanes for exercise. Thankfully, I live close to the pool and can walk home and take a hot shower afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL, I never thought about that when I go swimming, now I will be wondering as well.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My kids love the pool, but last time we went, they had to get out not once, but twice because there was poop in the pool! Seriously! Wish there were a way to escape that one! That's the worst part for me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Same here. I don't go for public pools especially with lots of kids. Its just not my preference, but in an open sea, I'm good :)
yeah, the idea of someone peeing in the food disgusted me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. So true about all you stated on public pools. Most People just shun the nasty side of it just to catch fun.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not a huge fan of public pools. But we will go because there is honestly nothing else to do. It's so hot outside and you can only go to the library so much before it starts to get boring. I don't get in the water but my children do and they love it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The only time I go to public pools is when I am away. I love pools where you have to clean your self under a shower.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I can't say I've ever heard anyone say that they're going to the pool instead of taking a bath - but I do agree about the peeing in the pool :( x

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes! I feel the exact same way! My stepkids love going to the pool but it grosses me out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Totally get it. I am not the biggest fan of them either. My kids though loooove the pool. Probably because kids like things that are totally gross.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  41. you are absolutely right ... I never ever go to the public pool :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. This is something I have not thought about in such a long time. It is actually gross to swim in the public pools when you think about all of these reasons. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Agree with you on the reasons. I can't imagine people who have skin disease to get in the same pool. OMG! I have to stop thinking of these - otherwise no public pool for me.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love all those memes and gifs you've used in your post :D I'm not into pools either and I can't swim. I tried to learn couple years ago and didn't think about germs and stuff like that but I failed to learn.

    ReplyDelete
  45. LOL. People think I am crazy, nut I am the same way. I just don't like it. Oh and I love the graphics you used. Love the page.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think public pools are sooo dirty! I prefer pools at hotels. It feels better lol

    ReplyDelete
  47. These are all reality. That is why when we go to public pools, we make sure there are only few people using it. Gosh, imagine the dirt and the germs hehe. (Majoy Eicabla)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was shocked when I realized that people actually do pee in the pool . . . I naively thought that was just a bad joke for the longest time. SO NASTY!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I am constantly in a panic when it gets crowded because I lose sight of them so easily-same with water parks

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lol, it's funny but these are all true. I'm with you on this. And yes I also go just because my children love it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. LOL. I completely understand. I live in a 55+ community and I know there are some older guys that pee in the pool. But, I also know that the chlorine in the pool helps keep the pool clean and humans safe.

    ReplyDelete
  52. LOL! Good points though. Especially no #1, people do pee in the pool. This is why my family has been limiting our visit (to almost zero) to public pool.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I have thought about people pee in the pool but not the entire list! And thinking all this public pool seems "not so safe"

    ReplyDelete
  54. My husband is a pool inspector and he says hot tubs are even worse. He calls them a sesspool of germs. I still go in hot tubs as they feel so good.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh no I just imagined the spitting and how disgusting it is, I am totally freaked out now, no public pools for me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Haha so many reasons why public pools are disgusting! This gave me a good laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I've similar apprehensions that's why I never allowed my son to attend his pool splash class due to fear of allergies.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have to admit I LOVE swimming but yeah I would rather have something more private for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  59. My children love swimming. Although, we often go to hotels to swim, it is still in a way public so things you mentioned here still apply.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Same thoughts when there's a public pool. But the kids do love it and it really makes their day when you take them swimming. I hope the chlorine helps get rid of at least some of the filth.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Eww yes I totally agree with you! I do not like public pools for these same reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I was ok... Until i read #2!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I feel the same way about public pools. There are just so many germs and so many ways to get sick from those germs that one cannot be too careful.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks for this article, it was very interesting to read about the pros and cons of visiting public pools. Some of these things my husband and I already knew and therefore decided to build our own pool near the house for our children. When we decided on the approximate cost, we began to look for those who could install the pool for us. And while we were looking, my swim coach advised me to read the reviews on https://anthony-sylvan.opinion-corp.com/ so that we understand how other people describe the results of their service. You have carefully studied all the reviews and decided that we will order the construction and installation of a pool near the house from them, as this is much better than carrying children several times a week.
